In May - Amy, Nebo, & Keva are coming down here (Florida.) They will then join us (my dad, Moo, Ki and I) in our road trip to Utah, where we will all stop and spend a few days in Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.
I'm not sure exactly where we're stopping in each place but most likely it will be the Northern parts of each state. I'm sure it would be fine if we had to drive a few hours or so to meet up, although I'm sure my dad would prefer not to.
Here are the "plans" so far and the days we will be in those states..
May 8th -- TX
May 9th -- TX
May 10th -- Leave TX drive to NM
May 11th --New Mexico
May 12th --New Mexico
May 13th --Leave New Mexico - Drive to Northern Arizona
May 14th --AZ
May 15th --AZ
May 16th --Leave AZ to Utah
Anyone want to get together? :)

It depends on where in TX you're stopping off in. We're far north, close to OK border. Let me know.

I'd like to meet up, do you know which route you will be taking through Az? I know you guys are planning on visiting the Grand Canyon, that's a bit far from me I think around 8 hours but if I know which interstate you guys are coming in from I'm sure we can find something that isn't too far out of the way for all of us.

I'm interested but, since I'm in the very SE corner of NM, it really depends on where you stop (and whether or not I can get off of work). It might be easier/closer to meet you in TX, too.

I'm in, if it's within four or five hours. :) I'm in northern Texas.

It'd be a lot of fun to meet up with some more PT'ers but by that time I'm going to be as big as the broad side of a barn so I am probably out :p I live in northern texas near Leslie (AdoreMyDogs) though so who knows :) I'll keep checking in

thanks for the heads up on the thread, Kay!
The texas dates are during the week though and I'm working. So I'm not going to be able to make it. You guys take tons of pics so I can see what I missed though. :)

Carlsbad is about an hour and a half from me. Are ya'll going to the caverns? They're pretty neat - have a kennel to board the pups, too. I HIGHLY recommend watching the bat flight - pretty neato! (Or at least it impressed me when I was a kid. ;) )
I will see what I can come up with for the 11th and/or 12th. If possible I'll try and bring a critter (Sara and/or Maggie but oh how I wiiissshhhh ya'll could meet lil' Miss K'Cee).
Are ya'll staying on the river or ?
As a footnote, I'm in the process of *trying* to transfer to TX. I'll just have to play the meeting by ear but I hope, hope, HOPE to make it. :)
~~~EDITED TO FIX DATES:~~~
(Was looking at April not May! :rolleyes: )
I hope to go to the caverns. I was looking at them online and it looks really neat.
We are staying at the Carlsbad KOA, which I'm not sure exactly if it's near a river. All I know is that it has a fenced in dog area and that's what sold me. ;) :p
If you know of a dog park in your area, I'm sure the pups wouldn't mind the drive up towards you. OR, we can check with the campground if we're allowed visitors at the fenced in dog area.
I don't know where that's at either. Haha! Going to look it up... yeah, still not sure where that's at. lol Will have to ask Dad.
Sitting Bull Falls is pretty nifty - haven't been there in YEARS though. Also, there's a Living Desert (kinda like a zoo but with desert animals) that's pretty enjoyable or at least it was when I was a kid. lol
How fun! I sure hope I can make it!
I don't know of a dogpark anywhere near me, although there's a pretty big (mostly fenced - still wouldn't let the dogs off leash) park right across the street from my house.... ;) In all seriousness, I wouldn't expect ya'll to drive anymore than what you have. I'm happy to make the drive to meet ya'll.
I hope you can come Tonya, I'd really like to meet you. :) I hope we can figure out a way to meet everyone else in those areas too!
I'd love to meet you during your stay in Texas, but Brookeland looks to be about 4 and a half hours from me...with all the travelling we've got planned for May, I'm not sure if I can do it. But, if my schedule at work allows it, I'm going to try! :)
Do you know of any dog parks in between us, Kari? We'd be willing to drive within 2-3 hours. Are you North or South of us?
I searched for a few hours yesterday looking for some doggie oriented things in that area and couldn't find anything!
I e-mailed the KOA today to see if they would allow visitors to our "doggie park" and exactly how big it is.
I'll let you know if I get a reply, if not, I'll call them tomorrow.
Is that something you'd be interested in, Tonya?
Kay, I just looked at the map, and I'm actually northwest of you. I don't know why I was thinking you'd be closer to the OK/TX border. :rolleyes: Doesn't look like you're going to be too far from David's family, actually. I wonder if we could just meet there? Let me look into it...they have a huge yard and David's mom loves dogs like we do. :) Let me see how far it is from where you're going to be. I'm horrible with maps, so, I could be totally off.
Holy crap! That's only about 65 miles from Leesville, LA! WOW! That would so completely rock my socks off! Would you be interested? We could even all go to the Sabine River and hang out at their campsite...it's a little bit of a drive (maybe half an hour to 45 minutes from his parent's house) but it's worth it if you want your dogs to get wet. :) The water will be pretty cold, though it's a great place for the dogs to play. His parents yard would be completely fenced in, though, and they have probably an acre or maybe a little more. I'm brainstorming. :)
*I just edited the distance between Brookeland and Leesville*
I'll have to check with my dad (since he'll be doing the driving) but it sounds cool to me. I was looking for some place to let the dogs run off leash in Texas and I wasn't finding any offleash dog parks, so that would be perfect.
The Sabine river is closer to us than Leesville, though (closer is better in my dad's eyes.) What's the name of their campsite (is there a website?)
Kiara is up for anything water although I can say Moo would not be thrilled. :p
Well, it's not really a campsite...it's just where Betty (David's mom) parks her RV and sets up camp. She's a real outdoorsy kinda gal. There's a steep "walk" down to the water, but once you're down there, the dogs pretty much stick around. Freckles is the only one who will run up without permission. And, she knows Finn and Dudley will follow her...but, all the dogs just sortof run around and play, and I've never had a bad experience. That's not to say it's 100% safe. It's a lot of fun and there's water...but if you're looking for fenced in, his mom's house is the best bet. I don't know of any dog parks, either...
I haven't talked to my dad yet about the Leesville thing but wanted to post this for Tonya...
I got this reply from the Carlsbad KOA today...
"Good morning,
We look forward to your visit and are pleased to welcome your dogs. My husband and I (and our whole staff) are dogs lovers. For your dogs' enjoyment (and yours too) we have two fenced in pooch parks that are each approximately 40' x 40'. It is a terrific spot for the dogs as well as the owners who then get to brag about their beloved four-legged friends. We welcome your friends to join you here. They would just need to stop by the office and register as day visitors. The cost is $3 per person. Then they may use the pool or any of our other features.
Have a safe trip out to us and we will see you in May.
So it would be okay for you, Sara & Maggie to come visit us and play at the park. :)
Kari, I just got to talk to my dad yesterday and he said he wasn't too keen on the idea of driving that way.
Our campground supposedly has "secluded walking trails" - would you be interested in meeting up with us and going on a walk??
I just e-mailed the campground asking if they know of any local dog parks (since they are very dog friendly I figured their employees must own dogs.)
Tonya, what day did you want to come? :) Is it for sure? :D Want to PM me your number so I can add it to my contacts?
Hey, Kay. I'm not sure we're even going to be able to make it to David's parents house. We have kindof overextended ourselves for the month of May. ;) If we do make it down there, it'll be really last minute. I hope we can, but it doesn't look good. One day, I'll get to meet some more Pet Talk people. But, it's not looking like it's going to be this May.
PM on the way. :)
Kari, it's a bummer that we can't get together but I understand! One day! :)
It's a huge bummer. I can't ever seem to get everything to work out at the same time! :) I just wish we could sell our house and be done with it, that would free up a lot of the issues. But, then we'll have new ones with the purchase of a new home, hahaha. :p
I'm sorry I haven't responded sooner, I've been waiting until I had a better idea of what was going on. I was really hoping to meet up with you and Amy but it doesn't look like its going to happen. I just got transfered with my job starting May 7th (which also happens to be finals week) talk about stressful! Since my semester is over my parents decided to buy me a plane ticket to see them the weekend of 18th so I won't be able to take off that Monday or Tues :( I was really hoping I'd be able to make it up since I love Flagstaff, plus it would have been nice to get out of the Tucson heat. I hope you guys have fun, I know that at some day I will meet you guys, maybe I'll have to make it to a Findlay meeting in a year or two.
