I just posted a message in Cats General about this HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS, HIGHLY FATAL new strain of the common feline respiratory ailment calicivirus:

If anyone reading this here has any experience with or knowledge about this virus and/or the new vaccine for it, would you please read this and let me know?
Thank you so very much. I work at a no-kill cat shelter with around 90-100 cats in it at any time, and it would be hell on earth if there ever were to be an outbreak of it there.

I had a litter of kittens a few years ago that contracted this awful virus...I don't want to relive this by any means, but all the kittens recovered (Emily Rose was in very bad shape) and no others were affected by the virus. I rescue countless street waifs every year, and my house (and every foster I know) were packed at the time. I posted the links I dug up under advanced search for the pics and details of the nightmare we all went through. I can't click on the links and go through the bad memories of it all, so I just posted them for you to peruse. I was vigilant about washing my body and removing my potentially contaminated clothes every time I handled the kittens. My skin was raw from bleaching, but it prevented viral transmission. ;)
*Warning* many of the pictures posted are very graphic of Emily Rose, but had a happy ending. :) Whew!

Dear QueenScoopalot, many thanks for your message and all the links to the threads on your precious kitties who went through this. I took a quick look through them and will read it in more depth when I have some time. I'm so glad your darling babies survived it!
Thanks again,
Pat
