Does anyone know how to train two puppies to get along???

My two, Sammie (7mos) and Maggie (4mos), play and fight but the fighting sometimes becomes really aggressive to the point where I have to break them up. Sammie is also very possessive of her belongings in which I totally understand but I would like her to stop growling at Maggie when she just walks by.

Any ideas???? I'm kinda stressed about this and really want to keep both of them. I dread the thought of giving one up because of this problem. :( :( :( :(

Thanks!!!! :) :)

As long as blood is not shed, try not to worry too much. Dogs have to determine for themselves who is "top" or "alpha" dog. With them so close in age, it may take a little time to decide for themselves.

You can't force anything to get along, it would go against the laws of nature. Just give them time to sort things out and eventually things will be fine.

At some point, they will stop testing each other's boundaries. As for right now, I agree with Freckles317. As long as no blood is shed, try not to worry. Every puppy goes through this, trying to find her place in the "pack."

Did you have siblings? I remember the squabbles we human four had, and my Dad, (who was an only child) shaking his head in dismay - but we all lived to grow up, and are still friends! I bet they will be too, just give them time.

I was having the same worries when I got Smokey (and I came here all panic-y and looking for advise :) )... but they worked it out after a few squabbles.

When ours start in, we usually just say "KNOCK IT OFF!!!" in a REALLY loud voice and they back off. Do both of them recognize you as the alpha of the pack? If they do, they should stop when you tell them "NO" in a firm voice. I have had to break up my share of fights, and when I do, they usually are very apologetic to me and they don't go back after each other.

Oops! If it's any consolation, one of my best-dogs-in-the-whole-wide-world dogs my family owned was a Freckles!

Sorry about that!

... I do not mind, especially being that Freckles was "one of my best-dogs-in-the-whole-wide-world dogs", that's good company. :)
