A few weeks ago a co-worked approached me knowing that I’m the “Dog Lady” at work and asked me if I knew of a Golden Retriever breeder because he wanted to buy a puppy.
(Those of you here that know me KNOW that was not going to happen!!) :p
So I started by asking him if he knew how many dogs die in shelters every year because they aren’t adopted in time? He had no clue, and I saw a light bulb go off when I told him about kill shelters only giving a dog a certain amount of time to be adopted then they are PTS.
So I had him on the track of adopting or rescuing, but I also knew I had more work ahead of me.
So I started printing pictures off of websites of dogs needing adopting and he was happy to see that not all dogs in need of adoption are older dogs and he even went to the local Humane Society to look at the dogs up for adoption during his lunch that day!!
Last week he saw an ad in the paper about a 7 month old Golden that needed a new home because the family was moving and couldn’t take him. So he drove the hour and a half to go see the pup and came home with him!! :D He was the 10th person/family that came to look at him, all the others said he was too big already (65 lbs) and they wanted a puppy. So his name is Bosce! He’s doing well already and my co-worker is already seeing the things I said were true! Like when I told him they could already be housebroken and trained!! And he is!! Boscoe walks on a leash great already too!! He was SO happy I pointed him in another direction rather than buying from a breeder. Then I found out that Boscoe is not neutered and he said he didn’t think he was going to have him neutered. So… I see that I have even MORE work ahead of me… but I’ve already put a few good points in his head to think about! I won’t let this one get away from me! I promise!!!
