View Full Version : Jack Has Surgery Tomorrow

Jack has surgery tomorrow morning to remove a lump from the base of his tail. It is about the size of a large gumball. Because of where it is located the vet wanted to get it out before it got too big and got to close to his anal area. He also said if it got too big it would be harder to get the skin to fit across the opening and of course, that is not the ideal place to have an open wound. He will also be taking off some of the ugly little "warty" type growths on other parts of his body. He has one especially on his leg that he keeps chewing on.

Jack is 9 now but the vet says his heart and lungs sound good so he should come through fine. Pray for my baby though, please. Diana

:D Good, I've been checking in to see how he is. He'll be so glad to get home tonight. Is his favorite Papa Carl around?

It is now afte 5:30 (barely!), so I will assume you are standing ontheir doorstep, demanding your Jack back!! Hope he is feeling okay!!

Jack is home! Yes, Carl is here - in fact he has himself and Jack "barricaded" in the family room so that the others can't bother him. Not that a gate would stop Pippi! I am not sure what I expected Jack to look like but not like this! I know I'm just being a big baby and once they heal he'll be fine but.....

Last night when I trimmed him I found another lump on his back a few inches from the tail. I asked the assistant to check it out with the doc and it was another lipoma - but very deep. So he had two big lump removals and 6 small ones. 3 of the smaller ones needed stitched. He looks terrible, Cuts and stitches and shaved spots every where. He "initiated" a new machine at the vets that makes it easier to remove the little ugly growths that he and man other terriers get.

Right now he is sleeping - he was hungry when he got hom so we had to feed him. I don't expect him to get sick - he seems to have a strong stomach. Probably from his years outside before we got him.

Poor Jack. :( I hope he feels better soon. His fur will grown back in
no time. Sounds like Jack has an iron stomach if he can eat so soon
after his surgery. :)

I think he learned from me! When I had my gall bladder out a few years ago, they said I couldn't go home until I ate. I think my first words in recovery were, where's the food? (Not a fan of hospitals!)

Glad to hear Jack is home and doing well. Get some rest while you can, Buddy!! A day or two and those other pups aren't going to want to leave you alone anymore!

Poor Jack! :(

Next time you're scheduled for a Sword Fight with the Vet ...
ya gotta remember to take your own SWORD!

Check with Anvik --- Momma Glacier was going to look for some FurGrow Fertalizer. :p

Has he got a Lamp Shade or a Bite-Not collar to wear?
That'll be worse than the bare spots!

Feel Better Soon, Jack!

Jack is doing fine this morning except he has been licking at the one on his side - the one he has chewed on for quite some time. I had sent away for some things to use - a "soft" e-collar and a no-bite collar - the only problem was I didn't think about length just the circumference on his neck. They were too short in length since his nose is so long. Anyway, whether the vet thought I had sent for new ones or what they didn't send anything home and when I asked the assistant she said the pain meds should keep him "out of it" enough to keep from chewing on it. Right! Jack's bed is on Carl's side of the bed - at 4:30 in the morning (after getting up at 1:00 to let Dazzi out and 3:00 to let Taggert out) I hear him say Diana, wake up he's licking those stitches. Now I have to ask you why did he wake me up when he could just as easily say "Jack stop it and pull his nose away.

Anyway I called the vets office and picked up an e-collar so that the rest of the weekend might go better. I can't watch him every minute so when I can't I can put that on him. I would really like to not see the open wound.

The one under his tail was bleeding a litle but seems to have stopped now.

And yes this would have been much more traumatic if it had been cause by another dog.

Hey Mom ~

Call Pat (cyber-sibes) - and check the measurements on her No-Bite or Bite-Not collar -
she got one for the Sibes and will probably loan it to Jack ...

If it fits him, he might be a lot more comfortable in it - he won't be *banging* it
into stuff when he moves around.

Leave them stitches be Jack!

4 Dog Mother

Jack didn't leave his stitches alone! Pat was just coming in the door so we could check to see if Star's collar would fit Jack and as he came out we saw he had pulled the stitches out of the one on his back leg. Blood was running down it. So after Pat left I called the vet and took Jack in to have it checked. The vet decided not to put the stitches back in - that it had started to heal and that it should continue to heal.

Pat is using her collar on Star right now because she is still biting at that thing on her front paw pad so we put a belt around a rolled up towel that we put around his neck. It didn't last all night but almost.

He's at work with me right now. It's a slow week so I should be able to bring him in tomorrow too. By Wednesday, I would think everything would have healed enough to be able to leave him.

I am still trying to decide whether to order a collar to have on hand.

Well Jack, if you'd leave those stitches alone, you wouldn't have gone to the vet again. Heal, Jack, heal!

Diana, I pondered whether or not to get a collar too, but I'm fnding that it's getting A WHOLE LOT of use. I probably still have an e-collar or two hanging around somewhere, but Star seems to prefer the Bite-Not. She tolerates it pretty well. She still looks miserable, but she's not so upset about trying to eat, drink, walk through doors & lie down as when she has an e-collar.

Jack was so good, too, when we strapped it on him for size, he was so calm. I'm glad it worked out to take him with you to work.
