Sasha has been on the hypothyroid meds for a while now. She seems much better, but, her appetite has not turned around. In fact it has gotten worse. She won't even eat her favorite treats. I will call the vet tomorrow for his advice but wondered if anyone here had any in the meantime. Not like she's starving, she has gotten rather overweight. But I am worried.

Levothyroxine can have a side effect of causing nausea. If the dog is feeling nauseated then it wouldn't want to eat. You should discuss with your Vet the possibility of trying a lower dose, or if the Vet believes the dose is appropriate, then ask for Metoclopromide. If the problem is nausea then the Metoclopromide should help. Again discuss with the Vet and see what s/he thinks about the appetite problem.

Sasha will be visiting the vet on Thursday afternoon at 3 pm for blood work and a recheck. The meds may be too low for her. We shall find out.

Sasha is having renal failure issues. She's now on a renal diet. She seems to like it better than the gastro diet. Great that she likes the food, but the prognosis is not good. She's all I have. I don't know how long we will have left. Anyone with any experience?

Well, this morning Sasha wouldn't touch the food. She looked at it, looked at me and basically said YUCK! with her doggie eyes. I hope that when I get home from work she's eaten it. I'm worried I'm going to lose her soon and I just don't know how I'll deal with that.

Poor sasha, eat for your mom!!

At work, we entice reluctant eaters with a spoonful of beef baby food mixed in with their food.

Thank you, I will give that a try when I get home. I still have some baby food from Sebastian's chicken soup. I just couldn't throw it out, it just seemed too final. Perhaps now it will help Sasha.

Tried the baby food - huge success. She ate everything in her bowl. Thank you for the suggestion. :D

I'm sorry Sasha isn't doing well. I'm glad you got her to eat. I don't have any advice but I will keep Sasha in my prayers.

Sasha and I appreciate your prayers. She's napping now, sweet old ladies get to do that whenever they want.

Well, we have had a good day today. With the addition of a spoon full of baby food, Miss Sasha has eaten both of her meals today. Good girl!!! Got that renal food in ya twice! I can't thank Cathy enough for the suggestion. We also had a lovely walk this morning and a good wrestle this afternoon. She's doing pretty good. Thanks everyone for the good thoughts and prayers. I hope I can keep her kidneys healthy for a long while, I am no where near ready to say goodbye yet. She's my last baby!!
