Man Peddles 'Holy' Bottled Water
POSTED: 12:47 pm EST March 6, 2007
UPDATED: 1:03 pm EST March 6, 2007
LINDEN, Calif. -- A Stockton, Calif.-area businessman is peddling blessed bottled water.
The half-liter bottles of Holy Drinking Water are being distributed by Wayne Enterprises. They only carry the blessings of Catholic and Anglican priests, but company President Brian Germann plans to expand to other faiths.
He said he thought of the concept last year and has sold about 3,000 bottles since January at a Linden market and on the Internet.
He claimed the idea came to him on June 6, 2006, believed by some to be an ill-fated day because of the three sixes in 6/6/06, a Christian symbol of evil.
The bottles of plain purified water carry a label that warns sinners who drink the water that they may experience burning, intense heat, sweating and skin irritations.

I know the kind of person who would buy it, let me tell you a little story:
In high school, we did the musical South Pacific. As I was just in 9th grade, i didn't try out for any parts, but sang in the choruses, and got cast as one of two nuns, whose only job is to lead a row of girls across the stage.
Before the first night of the show, there I was, in the nun costume back stage. The female lead, Lisa, came up to me and said "Bless me, Sister!"
I said, "Lisa, I'm not even Catholic, you know that!"
She said, "I don't care, just make the hand motions and stuff, and I'll feel better!"
So I did, and she did.
I bet she'd buy the water!

Poor thing. Sounds like she really needed something to believe in, perhaps she needed more then anything to believe in herself.

Lol... I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the bottles were bought as novelty items, for humor value.
Then there are the staunchly religious... (shrugs). Don't know the Catholic or Anglican faiths well enough to mock them for wanting blessed water. I don't even know what they use it for.

Blessed water ??? Well....you could pour it over your head. For all the good it would do for anything, you may as well do that.

I don't know one priest in town who would bless holy water to sell.
I think the guy made up the "blessed" part. :D Some gimmick.

:p  I meant what religious function it serves. Obviously, not being of their faith, it is no different to me than any other bottle of water. But I am not going to shrug it off so quickly if it is something that would technically serve a function in their belief system.
Honestly, I wouldn't laugh at a Jewish person for paying more for a kosher food product just because the OTHER, cheaper product was just as good to me. Dunno.

I would call that going way too far. Hard to believe people would actually fall for that. If they want holy water they can get it at their church. Kind of a sick thing to do.
But thanks Cathy for pointing out that Evian is really Naive....never noticed that before. Can't wait to tell my friends.

Well I suppose if the weather is hot, like it is here....you could pour it over your head and say "God that feels good !!!".
Thats kind of a religious function.....in a way.........er...I think.
