Hi everyone! Well Kody is eating well and has gained 12 oz since he came home Friday. We started very very slowly with teaspoons of baby food, canned food, yogurt. He's now eating canned food with a bite or two of kibble and he had some liver earlier (boiled and pureed). He is still on 200 cc's of subcu fluids a day, but he's drinking very little water - is this common? Is he not thirsty due to the fluids in him???

Also, he's not having any bowel movements - is his body absorbing all the nurtients? I'd think he'd have to pass SOMETHING! Could maybe some of the meds he is on to have stopped the diarreha from the Parvo be causing that? He's on Tamiflu, Clavmox (SP? Antibiotics0, Methocyclaine (SP?), and Reglan (sp?).

Thank you for any advice!
Marianne

Clavamox does make them thirsty. When in doubt- call the vet..

Yeah but wouldn't he be drinking MORE? I'm thinking it's the subcu fluids that is making him not be thirsty....

200cc's of fluids a day is a fair amount and could explain why your dog isn't drinking much. Just to reassure yourself, just give your vet a call to make sure.

Subq's is like...giving them their liquids/hydrating them through their skin. So, no he wouldn't be drinking as much.

You should give the vet a call about the BM-he should be passing something. That concerns me. He may need to have the anti-diarrheal (sp?) meds cut back some..I would call the vet ASAP. On a second note, don't be afraid to call the vet about ANYTHING you have a question on-you just brought home a parvo puppy-they should expect it.
