Another UPDATE! Results from the bloodtest - Good thoughts please :(

:( My little Kaedyn started acting sick yesterday. He ate breakfast just fine yesterday, but apparently he threw up three times while I was at work. I didn't know he was sick so I took the three to the park and he threw up in my car. Then he threw up again when we got home. He won't touch anything. He passed up chicken, rice & beef and even cheese slices (his favorite!) He's drinking just fine.. so at least he's staying hydrated.. but I'm really worried. He's looks so weak. :(

He's going to go to the vet tomorrow morning if he's still the same tonight. Good thoughts for my boy please. :(

I wouldn't be so concerned if it was Kai.. but Kaedyn's a lot older. He's acting so fragile and weak. It's disheartening :(

Well.. $511 later, we still don't know what's wrong. He had xrays and bloodwork done. He has extra gas in his tummy and his abdomen is really tight.. but other than that, xrays appeared to be normal. Pancreatitus doesn't seem likely. I'll get the results from the bloodwork tomorrow.

:( He still won't eat anything. He's drinking.. but his body isn't getting any calories/energy. He won't even drink chicken broth.. just pure water.

I hope it's just a bug that'll pass soon. :( I don't know how I'm going to pay the $511 bill.. I don't know what I'm going to do if he needs further treatment. :(

I'm not sure.. in the past they understood when I had no choice but to make payments.. but as luck would have it, they just switched ownership so I'll have to ask. I'll find a way to pay for whatever needs to be done.. but money has been so tight lately.. I really didn't need this. :(

Kaedyn took a little nibble out of some dried chicken breast doggy treats yesterday. It wasn't much.. but it's a start. He did the same thing today. He's still drinking water on his own but he refuses to take the medication. :\

We also found out that he has fleas. I suspected we had a flea problem because shortly after I got my foster cat, I started itching really badly. It has been at least 6 weeks.. maybe more.. so the fleas must be pretty bad if they're still biting me. I wonder if the flea infestation could be so bad that they caused him to be anaemic? I guess we'll find out with the bloodtests..

The vet just called.. the bloodtest showed that the levels for his pancreas were four times higher than normal. Sounds like it was pancreatitus. He'll be eating a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice for the next couple weeks. He'll have to go back in next week for another bloodtest to monitor any improvements.

He's doing a bit better today.. he ate half a meal of raw beef tripe and even took his meds. :D

Kaedyn was a pound dog. :) We rescued him about 3.5 years ago.

Several of my dogs have had pancreatitis. Two of them never fully recovered from the initial acute attack and now have chronic pancreatitis. Paxil's levels fluctuate. She stops eating and acts lethargic when they are high. She gets sub-q fluids for two days at home. If she's still not eating by day three, she goes back to the vet for IV treatment. She hasn't had to go back for quite awhile now. Earle's levels are steady at close to triple what they should be. He eats a low fat diet for the rest of his life and shows no other ill effects. Preacher had recurrent attacks, but his levels always returned to normal after a week or so.

I hope your boy is feeling better soon and hasn't had any permanent damage to his pancreas.

At least you know where you stand now. Probably with some diet changes & meds, Kaedyn will be back bouncing around in no time. Plus he's got lots and lots of PT prayers going for him!

Kaedyn's getting better every day. He's pretty much his normal self now.. barking at nothing, telling off Keeva for getting too close.. :p His appetite has returned too. He'll be eating rice and chicken for the next week so his pancreas can have some time to recover.. then we'll slowly ease back into raw.

Poor Kaedyn, pancreatitis is very painful, I've had it twice caused by medication. I'm glad he seems to be feeling better, I hope he continues to improve.
