If you had to get another dog, what breed would it be, where would it come from, girl or boy ,what would it's name be, and how old would it be? I would get a two year old Siberian husky from the SPCA, it would be a girl, and her name would be either Eska (like Eskim) ,or Stowe( a little town in Vermont that I love) .

I would get a German import GSD pup and I think I would lean towards a male. I would probablly name him Bishop, because both my husband and I love that name. We met a champion show and obedience rottie by that name and it sounded so good. Some other male names I like alot are: Lex and Cecil. If I got a female I might name her Morgan, but I also really like the name Ellie.

Oh this is way, way too hard! :D
I would either rescue another greyhound, and it would come with a name. I would probably go with a younger one again, because of the place we are in life. I might get another male, because our Buddy is so *perfect*!
Of course, I'd also really want to rescue that Irish Wolfhound I keep talking about, and name it something trite and predictable like Murphy or O'Malley or Killarney!

I'd want to get a rescue Aussie, female probably, and in young adulthood. We've fallen in love with Aussies! The name would be agonized over for weeks until we found just the right one...
I still feel guilty about having gotten Eli from a fancy-dancy breeder instead of from a rescue or a shelter, but we had our reasons. Kobie is a shelter-adopted female who's NOT good with other dogs, so we kept hearing advice to get a very young male puppy--maybe she'd feel maternal towards it and not fight constantly. Since finding male Aussie pups in rescue or shelters was impossible during last summer (and we sure tried!), we opted for the breeder. True, we got a wonderful boy who's just what we wanted--frisbee dog extraordinaire, loving and smart and hilarious--but it bothers me that some other Aussie went unadopted or unrescued because of us.
At least we tried to make it as easy as we could on Kobie, and she's adjusted to Eli pretty well. Gotta keep each furkid happy! :)
I would get either a GSD, great dane, papillon, yorkie, or another poodle from the shelter. Male or female, doesn't matter to me. I have a whole list of names ready for when I get the next dog or cat. My favorites are the female names. I've not yet been able to plan getting a dog though so my next will probably be none of the above, but I will love it to death like I love my others :)

My next one will be a rescued Golden Retriever or Labrador Retriever, male or female. It wouldn't matter to me!

Kobieeli,
You shouldn't feel quilty if you tried your best. Just think if you hadn't gotten your Aussie from a reputable breeder a wonderful dog may of gone to a not so wonderful home and may of ended up in the rescue anyway. You never know... and as it turns out you got a dog you really love. God works in mysterious ways so don't feel guilty. :)
As a reputable breeder, I have a contract on all my puppies that states if they have to give the dog away it can only come back to us so we can have some control over any dog we bring into the world not going to a shelter. We then look for homes for the dog all over again. We are also involved in Golden Retriever Rescue. I believe if you are going to bring them into the world, you better be ready to rescue them too!
So by now I guess you can all figure out that I would like more Goldens. The question is how many. The more the merrier. :) Male or Female doesn't matter, just having them is enough. :) They would all come from lines that had clearences on hips, eyes, heart, elbows. Since these problems are genetic, we try to breed to prevent them. My favorite saying is "MY BEST FRIENDS ARE PURE GOLD". :D :D
Have a GOLDEN day ;)

Thanks for your words, Dixieland Dancer! You made me feel better. As they say, you can't save 'em all--although whenever I visit shelters I sure am tempted to try!

This is a toughy, I would either get another male Australian shepherd (either blue merle or red tri) and call him Rodeo, I always loved that name, but dad didn't want to name Bandit that, or I would get a white Bull terrier and call him (I would get a male) Sharky, a white bull terrier just looks like a Sharky!

Do I have the dog for you :D I just got this in my mail two minutes ago and then came here and read this.
Here is the letter
Hi All,
If anyone knows of someone who would be interested, I have an Australian Shepherd, for adoption. Candi is as sweet as her name,
she loves children, and other dogs, so she would make a great second
dog. She needs a loving forever home. Candi was born 10/6/96, she
is spayed, her hips have been x-rayed and are good. Candi's eyes have
been checked and they are good. She is blue merle color 20 inches high to the shoulder. Candi has one blue eye and one brown eye. She is up to date on shots. Heart worm check neg. is on prevention. She is
obedient trained and loves to go in the car. I have attached some photos
of her. There is a 75.00 dollar adoption fee and vet references required. If
any one is interested in Candi please contact me. Candi is in Ohio, This is one sweet girl she deserves the best.

I would love to have a 2-Basset family! I would get another one in a heartbeat if only my mom would give me the okay! It would be great to get a puppy, but I have recently discovered a Basset Hound rescue near me and I really do want to rescue. When you guys talk about rescuing, you make me want to rescue so bad! I think I'd get another girl; being a girl myself, I think I just bond to them better.

I would get a rott or dobie from a rescue b/c they do the best with knowing their history and rehabilitation.
If male I would rename them Ace or Spade
Female - Zoe
Or I would go the the shelter and find the one that stole my heart just like the last time!!!
Jessica- about 2 years ago one of my best friends parents rescued an Irish Wolfhound female named Murphy, from Sylvania OH!!!
The people gave her away for free, cuz they were moving and she was already like 6 years old. She was all matted and stunk, nails overgrown so much she could barely walk, and when they took her out to the bathroom they would just keep her on the leash right out the back door. Her parents had 2 great pyrnees, a scottie and the irish wolfhound all at the same time!!! They spent more on dog food then people food!!!
what breed would it be: Akita, Poodle or Norwich Terrier
where would it come from:
If I get a puppy, than from a reputable breeder, if I get an adult than I would
get one from a Breed rescue.
girl or boy: Akita either sex,
otherwise we prefer females.
Name: Geesh, I had a hard enough time naming the dogs we have. hehehe
I would have to see their faces and the
way they act.
I always liked the name Macabe for a boy
dog though. :D

there are only 2 options in my book:wait till one finds me....and they always do....or go to said p-o-u-n-d...{we don't use that word in my house} and ask who is the next on death row??????give me the biggest and the ugliest that will not get adopted.......thank you the deli dog!!!!!
Amen to that deli dog!!!!!!!!!

Great answer delidog!!!!!!
After we have kids, I hope to be able to rescue senior and/or special needs greyhounds or other breeds. But for now, planing to have young kids in the house within a couple of years, we thought we'd stick with the young and healthy dogs.
Someday, delidog, I hope to be able to answer like you did!
Staci - that's very cool - I only know of a small handful of families in the Toledo area with Wolfhounds currently. One dog just had puppies, and I saw the ad in the paper: two puppies, each $1100!!!! I drooled over the thought, but of course did not jump at the chance!
How original am I, wanting to name an Irish Wolfhound an Irish name?
Is Murphy still living?

Probably another German Shepherd. If there was one that I really liked at a rescue than from a rescue. But there's a breeder that I know and she has really good shepherds.
It would Probably be a 8 week old female named Cassie. I'm not sure about the name, but something like that.

If I was going to get a puppy I would get one from a responsible breeder. If I wanted an adult I would adopt a male 8 months to 3 years old. I like all the shepherd dogs like GSD, Shiloh shepherds, the belgian breeds... and I like Huskys, malamutes, wolfdogs.... Working dogs are my favorite. I'd get a male dog and two names off the top of my head that I like are Odin and Buck.

ilovehounds, we have US friends who own & love Aussie Shepherds. If it's OK with you &
the owner of this sweet Aussie, I'll send the details on to them. Our friends live in Florida but they have family, who also own Aussies, in the north.

I would get a pug, and I don't really care if it's a boy or a girl. If it's a boy he would probably be called Ripley unless something else came to mind, because that's what my hubby was going to name Bella if she was a boy. Don't have a girl name.... I would love to rescue a pug and often visit pug rescue sites but, sorry to say, they are all mostly seniors. I would like a younger dog to grow old with Bella. :D

I would get a Senior Schnauzer from the Schnauzer rescue, don't care boy or girl, it would probably already have a name. Would have one now, if Perry would get along with other dogs.

I would rescue another German Shepherd Dog from a GSD rescue or the shelter.
It would be at least 1 yr. old or older.
It will probably be a male.
I would either keep his shelter name or name him Geist.

I would get any dog but not a really fluffy dog or a Labrador (in my opinion to many people have them!) So maybe another American Cocker Spaniel, maybe a male the same age or older then my own lovable, girl Jesse. The only dog she really gets along with is my dad's friend Tim's male American Cocker Spaniel named Joey, he is one year, or so, older then Jesse. She even shares her tennis balls with Joey, until he leaves then she takes them all back under her table in the living room.

Ya sure please pass it on to whom ever you wish.
I have more info on her. I asked her Where in Ohio is she, does she like cats and are they sure she is blue merle
I don't know about Cats can test her.
She is in the Cleveland Area...in Ohio second yes she is a Blue Merle
she is AKC registered as a Blue Merle. I know this dog and her history...
everything except about Cats...I know she has been around them....but
they are outside cats..so don't know how she would react to Cats in the
house. The owner of this dog owns a boarding kennel. She breed
Aussies...Candi never came in heat...she kept her anyway...now she
no longer is breeding thank God....she is a responsible breeder but we
don't need any more dogs....That's why Candi has had her hips X-Rayed
and eyes tested...Candi has had the best of care ....was never neglected,
always kept current on shots...and on heart worm...she is trained...the
reason she can no longer keep her is because...she is taking care of
the boarding kennel...her mother is moving in with her and she is very ill.
She is a single mom trying to make a living for herself, mom and son.
Simply she can't afford to take care of her the way she wants her to be....

Thanks for the additional info about the Aussie who needs a new home. I sent on her details to our friends in Florida & they've just emailed me that they have forwarded it to their daughter & husband who are members of the Australian Shepherd Club. Here's hoping that the lovely dog finds a wonderful forever home.

I didnt even have to think of what dog I want! (this would be the point that my brother would roll his eyes at me  )
Breed: Saint Bernard- shorthair
Gender: Perferably female-but males are just as awesome
Age: I really want a younger puppy-ish one, that way I have time to get used to it growing into a 180-200 pounds! Besides, saints HAVE to be trained early.
Place: Humane society or rescue. I was going to buy from a breeder, but I'm just waiting for one to come along.
Thats my dream dog! I'm hopefully going to get it in the spring, that way I have time off from school, and can train him/her better.
Of course, my mom still has to be convinced that a saint wouldn't be a huge big ball of furry mess... :p

This is how we ended up w/ our female lab, Abby. Mu hubby and I decided to take a drive to the shelter, not sure why, just one of those things you get in your head to do and have to do it KWIM?? We had talked about getting another dog but we had JUST closed on our first home and wanted to wait a bit to allow our first dog time to adjust. well we got to the pound, saw this 5 month old female sitting in a cage and her eyes were so lonely I just wanted to bawl. Her papers said she was too hard to house train and that's why the people took her there. i told my hubby that no one would adopt a dog they thought could not be house trained so we took her then and there! it only took us a week to house train her. She is now almost 3 and has not gone on the house since that first week. The previous owners must have been impatient or did not take much time w/ her. I am so glad we went out there that day and found our little angel who is such a sweet girl! I think something made us want to go to the pound that day even though we had said time and time again we would not get another dog for at least 6 more months. I think our Abby knew we were out here and she called for us to come and get her LOL :)

OMG Alyson..I think I'm gonna cry!!! :( That face!! Ah, geez, I am getting the itchies for another dog!! My K9-maternal instincts are just about to overflow! I keep saying another male puppy, NSDTR, Lab, GR anything with the word retreiver in it, only cause I know the breed but I LOVE Border Collies and my mom loves GSD's, and I love Newfies and Great Pyrenees, yet I see THAT face above my post and just MELT and then want to haul my butt to the pound and rescue them ALL! At this point in my life right now, I can't adopt, but I will never live without a dog, I swear, so I think I'll wait fir the "look" and let a sweetheart adopt me, regardless of breed or gender! (I'm an easy mark)
Oh.. and it's name would be
LOGAN to honor my 1st PetTalk friend. And the dog should be as wonderful, sweet, compassionate as the human one!! xoxoxox

Aly that dog is SO adorable! I just wanna kiss that face big time! And Shannon, that adoption story is amazing. It truly is fate, without a doubt. It is so true that the perfect dog picks out it's owner, instead of the other way around. I love nice adoption stories like that one :)
And KarenI, that's so sweet of you :) I actually really love that name too, in fact, my hubby and I were going to name our first boy Logan (no offence, Logan, my name can go either way also). I had thought about naming my next dog Logan, but I think I want to reserve that name for a human baby :) Logan, you have a great name to go with your sweet personality :)

I would love a Leonberger! Or a Bernese Mountain Dog!! Or a Great Pyrenees! Can you tell I like big hairy dogs!!?!! More than likely however, when Duncan is gone (Knock on Wood!), I'll adopt another dog from the pound to save a life! I have nothing against people who buy dogs from breeders but I personally wouldn't because I would feel so guilty for all those animals w/o homes.
