We just moved about 4 weeks ago. I was just coming home and I saw some smoke.. It looked like it was coming from my apartment building... well it wasn't.. I didn't have anything better to do so I drove around a little to find out what was on fire.. and it was my old apartments. The building right across the street from my old apartment just burned down... It was pretty much gone before the fire department even got there. It has scared me so bad... I knew a fire could destroy your home quick.. but I never knew that quick. The fire was amazing (not in a good way) it was coming out of the apartment somehow and into the hallway where it was eating away at the staircase.. the stairs are made of wood there.. I couldn't believe the way it was consuming everything.. :(
In a matter of 7 minutes... these people lost everything! I didn't know them personally but I saw them around. Please say a prayer for these people.

Sara that is so frightening! I am glad that you and Alden and the kitties are living somewhere else. How heartbreaking for the tenants. It sounds from your post that no one was injured and we can be thankful for that. Years ago my sister-in-law's house blew up (something was wrong with the heater). She and her hubby and daughter were not at home at the time but their dog was. :( She said everything can be bought again but what she missed most was her photos and of course her dog. :(

I'm not sure if anyone was hurt or not... but looking at the pictures it looks like the upstairs apartment was empty??? or not.. i can't believe how the whole roof is *GONE*.. Maybe the floor fell through and that is why the upstairs looks empty.
A lot of people in that complex have pets... I pray everyone and everypet got out o.k.!!

I'm so sorry that happened to your sister in law.!! A fire is such a TRAGIC thing!!

Thank God- with your pets- you did not live there. I am glad to hear they were fine- but wow- yea its scary.
My husband had a house burn to the ground years back- and as he said- it was the most frightening to see how fast the house went up !!

If it burned down that fast, it is a good thing you and your family moved out of there. They are having these apartment fires in Baton Rouge right and left and so many are being left homeless.
Another story here where 3 died. A mother and her 2 small children.
3 die in Hammond FEMA trailer fire

HAMMOND — A woman and her two children died Friday when their Federal Emergency Management Agency trailer caught fire and burned in Hammond, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office officials said.
The woman, Juana Quantell Roberts, 20, and her children, a boy and girl both under age 3, died in the fire that started around 1 p.m., said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Blair Foster.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Foster said.
Roberts’ FEMA trailer is located in a park of hurricane evacuees located behind Shorty’s Ribs and Seafood on U.S. 190.

They said on the news this morning it was a flash fire from something since the outside of it looked completely normal, not even any smoke damage.
These FEMA trailors are blowing up right and left and a lot of people are dying.

The story came on the 6:00 news. It said ten units were destroyed and no one was hurt.. but one guy with asthma had some injuries... and three dozen people were left homeless. They said the call came in as a fire in a patch of grass outside.... I can't believe ten units burned down that fast.
They interviewed this one guy who got his three dogs out ... and he was saying he was so glad his dogs were o.k... and that was all that mattered..

Wow! We have an apartment complex right behind our house, and they seem to have a fire every other month or so. I'm not sure if its because the apartments are made of cheap materials or a lot of careless people live there, but we seem to have more firtes in that complex in one year than the rest of the town all together!
Whenever I see fires lke this, I am glad to see everyone is a-ok, then I wonder if they had renter's insurance. Most people roll their eyes and pass on it but it can happen so fast, and you can lose everything.

I'm glad that's your old apartment. How frightening.
I'll say a prayer for those people who lost everything. Very sad.
