My fiance and I are bringing home our Lab pup on Thursday and we are debating over whether to let her sleep in our bed or not. I know the habit would be impossible to break, and thats ok because I don't mind a big warm doggie sleeping in my bed when shes all grown up :p

My concern is that she might fall out of the bed when she is small- is there a way to make it safer for her? What are all of your thoughts on letting her sleep with us? Thanks!! :D

in my experience, once the dog sleeps with you, it's hard to stop it. how bout a nice bed near the bigger human bed. my two dogs snore, my sweetie snores, and it can get loud sometimes.

Both of mine do and I love it on most nights. Bella can be a sprawler so sometimes she can be a bed hog. On warm nights she will choose to go lay on the floor and I do admit I miss her when she is not there. Make sure you decide this is what you want because it truly would be a hard habit to break once started.

Suggestion:

Start her out sleeping in her own doggie bed on the floor - and decide LATER.

The reason being...it's easier to train her to get from the floor to the bed than vice versa! :)

When I Was Young , I Used To Give Tige The Boston Terrier My Liver As He Loved Liver As Much As I Hated It, Especially Chicken Livers.
I Will Buy It For The Cats And Tige Angel So He Has A Treat When He Comes To Visit, And Sit And Sleep On The Corner Of My Bed Again.

Um, not sure how old this pup is, but you may want to crate train at the start. Young pups can't make it through the night, may not know enough to tell you he (she?) has to "go," and it is easier cleaning the crate than changing the whole bed.

Once the pup is older and house broken, then it's up to you. I seldom get comfortable in bed anymore - 5 cats and a dog take up most of it.

Hey, if you post this in Dog General, I bet you will get a LOAD of info, not just the answer to this question! Let them know the breed, age, gender, other pets in the home now, your past experience with dogs of this breed and of any other breed. Also mention if there are any children in the house. I KNOW you will get lots of replies, this is PET TALK!!

Depending how cold it is, we can have as many as all 8 cats in the bed with us!!

Nicki starts out the night in our bed but usually moves over onto one of two doggy beds on the floor by her own choice. I think she doesn't like sharing the bed with 5 felines and two humans :p
