Hey guys...I just noticed this round, scaley lump on Romeo's face. I've never seen anything like it. Does it deserve a trip to the vet? Anyone know what it is? It is round, definately raised, and really painful to the touch. It's not hard. I wouldn't think he did it himself, it dosen't appear that way...do dogs get warts?

Here's some pics...

Once you say "really painful to the touch," to me that means time for a vet visit.

It is hard to tell that it is raised, in the photos. At first I thought mange or ringworm. But neither is painful to the touch as far as I know. Itchy, yes.

See what some other PT folks suggest. Best wishes.

It looks like a bug bite of some sort. please have him get to the vet to be checked out just to be on the safe side. :)

Check out this thread.....it looks just like what Katie had. http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?t=86486&highlight=Katie+bump It was diagnosed as a bug bite or bee sting I believe..check further in the thread.

Yes dogs get warts, its most common in older dogs, the ones I've seen look different than that however. Nebo has had two lumps similar to that but they were on his legs and he didn't act like they were painful to the touch (also they were hard). They had to be surgically removed, so I hope this is just a bug bite. It could be an infected whisker or something too.

Hmm..okay...I'll call the vet Monday morning and see if I can get in that day or the next. We were talking on gabbly and I'm leaning towards an ingrown whisker-there's one whisker right in the middle of it, you can see it in the 2nd picture. You can't tell in the pictures, but it is raised above the hair.

Thanks for the replies. :)

Oh, and I did give him a benadryl just in case it is a bug bite. I'll let you know how it looks in the morning.

Well since its on the muzzle it could be a bug bite- but with the circle patch it could be mites too. Let us know after you take him to the vet...
