Hello Everybody!

Background:

I have a teenage female cat, Miss.Contessa*. She is a "heinz 57" cat. She was the runt of her litter of 7 kittens, and was very very tiny when I got her. She suffers from some sort of digestive problem (she has chronic diarrhea) which we have tried everything to cure, she has been on every concievable kitten food (including royal kanin), and is never allowed human food or milk. She has been tried on kitty "probiotics", and various vet drugs without success. (we were taking her to the vet every month for a long time, and it got to be absurd, because nothing was helping her). She had litter box confusion for awhile, so we had 4 litterboxes in the house, until she grew out of it (we now only have 2 litterboxes, and she seems to have that problem licked)... She is a very small cat, is very active, and loves her toys. She is very vocal (to the point of making her humans crazy), and tends to be very spolit. She is a completely indoor cat, in a house with no other cats or dogs.

(*Her full name is Miss.Contessa De La Meu)

[U]Current Problem:[U]

As I noted above, Miss.Contessa is very, very vocal. She now has started meowing in her sleep..

This rather bizzare behaviour has been occuring for 4 days straight now. This is not just a single stray meow, but a long series of most strange sounding meows.. and she is definitely napping during these sessions... She had one of these sessions this morning, whilst sleeping on top of me when I was in bed (I told you she is spoilt). She has also started getting under the warm throws on the sofas in the living room to nap (which she has not done before this either).

So, I am dumbfounded as to what is going on with her.

Welcome to PT and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Sorry, my cats are also bizarre, but I have no help for this one! I am certain though someone here can help, haven't seen PT fail yet!

Good luck, and we would love to see pics of your talker!

Good Afternoon everyone...

Update on Miss.Contessa.. Last night, she started "assuming the position", and talking very throaty.. So I checked, and sure enough my little girl is in heat (she is not even a year old yet).

(The vet will not "alter" her until her digestive health improves - we had to do her yearly shots late and one at a time because of her health).

So perhaps the other strange behaviours of late are related to "being in season" as well? There is no worry about her becoming pregnant, as she never goes outside (in fact, it scares her), and there are no other animals in the house. But the poor little thing is just beside herself.. She just woke up from a nap, and is throatly talking up a storm, loudly. Poor little miss.

I am so sorry about your kitties past. Poor wittle kittycat :(

I never heard a cat meow in his/her sleep before  As for your kitty in heat, good luck with that! Just don't let your kitty around any male cats so she doesn't get pregnat. I am so glad it wasn't anything serious, just in heat. Woooo! :)

Oh yeah! Welcome to Pet Talk. Hope you have fun! It seems like you are!! :D

I've had different pets(including cats) to talk and twitch in their sleep. We(people) do it too :p . I hope that you can figure out her tummy trouble so she can be fixed. They usually keep going into heat until bred or fixed :( Have you tried fasting her for a day or two? Just let her have water for a day or two. We've had to do that before. It seems to let the "bug" run through the system. You might also try just feeding her a mild dry food; some cats can be very sensative to food changes. We have one that gets diarhea if she even eats a little of a different food. BTW we feed Natural Life organic cat food. Good luck :)

We have tried antibiotics, probiotics, feed changes to every concieveable expensive cat food we can find.. We have tried kitty kaopectate... The vet does not want to withhold food or water from her, because she is a very small little girl (although she has probably reached her full growth now.. )

She is so small and delicate that the smallest cat halter is way too big at the smallest setting and I had to cut it down and sew the pieces back together to make it fit correctly. (She weighs less than 5 pounds.. closer to 4 1/2 pounds).

I am now trying feed intended for elderly cats with digestive problems made with lamb & rice.

My neighbor who rescues abandoned cats cannot believe that I have not given up long ago. Stubborn, I am.
