Hey guys - I have just found out that my sweet Noah has a rather severe heart murmur :( I have to take him in tomorrow to get an ultrasound done to find the cause and was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this? I'm so upset because he's my baby, and only 5 years old!!!:(

I'm so sorry to hear about sweet Noah, I hope the vet will be able to give him something for it, so he can continue living a good life! :)

I'm sure Lut can give you some good advise about how to deal with this, her cat, Sydney is suffering from the same. :(

Very good luck with him! Fingers and paws crossed here! ;)

Prayers are on the way for dear Noah. We will be thinking of you sweet one and hoping for the best. My Fritzy (RB) lived a very long (15 yrs.) and happy life with his murmur. Keep your chin up. We're with you in spirit:)

Poor little Noah - I hope he's OK

My Siamese Mini had a minor heart murmur when we took him in last Christmas. Within a month he had been upgraded to category five, which is the worst. We went through the same thing you are experiencing now.

The x-rays didn't tell us much, except his heart was two-thirds larger than normal and there was blood in his lungs, so we got an ultrasound. It was then diagnosed as PDA (patent ductus arteriosis, excuse the spelling), which is when one of the valves in the heart doesn't close off after birth (it can happen in humans and dogs as well). We were very lucky in that the condition is operable and we got him just in time.

As for your baby, it's great that you're getting the ultrasound to gain a definite prognosis. It may be cardiomyopathy as other members have experienced with their cats, or it could be something else. The ultrasound can determine the condition and severity, and hopefully provide a plan for providing Noah with a long and happy life.

Best wishes, Nicole

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your kitty Noah.
My kitty (Kedi, 8 years old) was diagnosed with a enlarged heart and rapid heart rate back in March. His lungs were aslo filled with fluid, so he was also having a hard time breathing.
Long story short, he is on 2 types of meds now and feels great! When I started giving him meds, he was back to his old self within a week! :)
There are alot of things they can do now for animals with heart problems, so I am sure your kitty will be fine with treatment.
Let us know how things go at the vet.
