Yes I know this is *way* early, but oh well, I just want to see how many other people are interested. Kay and her dad (with Mufasa and Kiara) will be here in May, so they are coming. :) I'm sure my friend Michele with her dog Cisco will come too.

The event will be May 19, 2007. Here's more info about Strut Your Mutt http://www.utahpets.org/strut.html (links to other pages on the left side). If enough PTers are going, we could form a Dog Pack http://www.utahpets.org/strut.html maybe make up some t-shirts too. :)

Here are photos from the event

We could have a picnic in the park or some other activitiy afterwards as well. Nebo's birthday is May 23rd and Kiara's is also in the spring so maybe some sort of dog birthday party? ;)

I'd like to go this year, barring anything unforseen happening, although nobody I know is a dog person so I doubt I'll get any support from them, LOL.

Nebo's birthday is the same day as mine! :D When the dates are announced, I'll have to see if I can come, too. It's not that far really. Looks like a lot of fun!

I hope you both can come! :) Jill, that is neat that you and Nebo have the same birthday!

Kay emailed them and they said the date is May 19th.

Amy, we should totally make contumes!

Kiki as Dorothy, Moo as the Tin Man, Keva as the good witch, Nebo as the wizard? :p

wolf_Q
02-14-2007, 03:48 PM
LOL yeah Nebo would love that (he hates wearing stuff). :p I think the "cowardly lion" would be most appropriate for him, he's a chicken. ;) Sydney would make a great "Toto" but I can't take all 3. I think they do have a costume contest...they have a few contests I've never participated in them though.

I am really hoping to come! I think it would be so much fun, plus awesome to meet other PT'rs! Sure hope we have Sammy by then, but right now that looks like a slim chance.

Well, I think I've made up my mind that Frankie and I will be at Strut Your Mutt. :) I just have to start saving for gas now, and downloading music for the 12 hour drive  .

So unless something really drastic comes up, I think ll be camping somewhere the 18th through the 20th.

Time to teach Frankie what a tent is. We've been spending a lot of time around other dogs and in crowded areas and she's been doing great, well great for her, so it means we should manage to not annoy anyone.

I really hope you two can come! :) If anyone else is interested, maybe we could plan a group hike too....or is that crazy? ;) I was thinking Stewart Falls http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v216/U2Q/6-17-2006/stewart05.jpg its a fairly easy hike and very pretty. That pic was taken late june, I'm not really sure how much water would be there in May. Actually, I'm not even sure if the hike is possible in May...I'll definitely do a test hike first. ;) Friday would be better as its a popular trail and would be busier on the weekend.

Jamiejo, I hope you can find an event like that near you, they are fun.

I am tentatively planning on coming! Depending on when she comes, I may have a friend visiting me on the 19th from Texas, but I will just bring her with me! ;)

We will probably camp...where are some good places?

Oh I'm excited about this! :D

That's no excuse! It's about 2,350 miles from us, and we're going. ;)

 I guess I can't complain about a 12 hour drive. I'm only going 750 miles.

I need to set a tent up and start getting Frankie used to sleeping in it. I think I'll just bring her crate and set it up inside; she'll sleep anywhere if she's in her crate.

Got to love these directions: I-215 N becomes I-15 N (Passing through NEVADA and ARIZONA- then crossing into UTAH). 632.5 miles . 87% of my drive is on the same freeway that I sit on every day. At least the scenery will be new to me, well once I get past Vegas. :D

wolf_Q
02-27-2007, 01:34 PM
Jill~I hope you can come, and your friend is welcome too! :)

Craig~I'm sure Frankie will be fine sleeping in a tent. I'm glad its at least an easy (but long) drive...staying on the same freeway, hey I think even I could manage that without getting lost...maybe lol.

Kay~I think camping in the same campground is a great idea!

As for the campground, well I'm working on that. I think American Fork Canyon is the best choice, I haven't actually camped there in years, but it is one of the only places in the mountains that will possibly be open for camping in May. There really is not camping (with dogs) in the Salt Lake City area, this is around 40 minutes away, close to where I live.

Granite Flat would be my first choice in that canyon, but it is unlikely it will be open on those dates. The canyon is open year round up to Tibblefork, but past that it closes depending on the amount of snow. So I think Little Mill would be the best choice...if its open, Utah.com shows open date May 15 but the ranger station says it all just depends on snow. Now I've been trying to find out about reservations, reserveusa.com is showing it booked up until September..and I did not believe that, so I called them. They told me that you can't even reserve until May 24th for that particular area. There are first come first serve sites too, no groups sites. So I think the best idea would be to just try and get a spot in that campground, I'll admit I have not camped in May, but I can't imagine it being extremely busy until later in the summer.

If the canyon campgrounds are not available, there are campgrounds in the valley, everyone will be able to find a place to camp I'm sure. It may be in a city area not wilderness, but its still a place to camp. There are some pet-friendly hotels also as a back-up plan. Sorry for the long campground explanation. :o

Just an open question for anyone thinking of coming and camping: What sort of amenities do you require? Is a flushing toilet and a shower a necessity? :o Or are you ok with a pit toilet and water? Lol.

Vela

I can't make it to the Strut your Mutt, Soda won't be 4 months yet by then and that's the cutoff, but I'd love to meet up with you guys outside of that and bring Cracker and Soda. (Ginger doesn't love other dog overly well so she would stay home). So when you guys get some things firmed up shoot me a PM so perhaps I can meet up with you all. I don't really want to go camping just yet, still kinda wet and muddy and I'm a weenie, but I'd love to spend a day visiting.

Geez, sorry it took me so long to post a response! I would personally prefer that there is a shower somewhere in the campground- it doesn't have to be right next to the campsite, I can use an outhouse...but since I will likely be camping the whole time, I would like to be able to take a shower at least once! :D

wolf_Q

Vela, definitely, I would love to meet you, Cracker, and Soda. I was thinking maybe you could meet us at Sugarhouse park after Strut your Mutt (I think it usually ends around 12:00 pm), we could all have a picnic or something. If that won't work I'm sure we can figure out another time/place to meet.

Jill (and everyone else) I don't think we can really camp in the mountains, I only know of one place in the mountains that possibly has showers and its not very close. There are a couple of KOAs, I've checked out the one close to me (there's one in SLC too, looking into that one but I read they don't allow dogs so I'll have to see) it is in the valley, in the city of Provo. The one I looked at is not the best, there's a trailer park on one side of it, but a nice grassy park on the other side. It's a very small campground, but they do have bathrooms/showers and they are open year round. There is also a trail to walk on by the provo river with access from the campground. See more here http://www.koa.com/where/ut/44108/ I emailed them a while ago, but they haven't responded, I'll try calling.

Pembroke_Corgi
03-21-2007, 02:38 PM
KOAs are usually pretty nice. I checked out their site, though, and their cabins are only $15 more than tent sites...I'd probably wimp out and go with a cabin (I'm sure Marta wouldn't mind, she prefers a bed any day)! :D I've stayed in KOA cabins before, they are usually pretty decent- although it doesn't look like they have WIFI at this one... :p (Am I a wimp, or what?)

Vela
03-21-2007, 04:17 PM
Yeah that sounds great, to meet up in the park and have a picnic. Would be nice to get to see everyone.

wolf_Q
03-21-2007, 04:48 PM
There's only one cabin at this KOA...possibly two. So I'd definitely recommend a reservation if we're camping there. I've stayed in KOA cabins at Glacier NP and they were nice.

Vela have you been to Sugarhouse park? It's a big park, but I'm sure we could figure out a place to meet...maybe by the pond or something.

I'm going to pre-register and start a dog pack (hoping that there will be at least 5 people as required). What do you guys want as our dog pack name? I was just going to put Pet Talk Dogs but if you all want something different let me know...

cmayer31
03-21-2007, 05:28 PM
I think that I'm going to aim at still camping in the mountains/forest. The KOA is kind of steep for tent camping, and I think my parents are using their trailer that weekend.

I can meet up with everyone at any time. However, I think I'm going to head out on a few hikes and stay a bit more remote to make it a nice break from the city. :)

Kfamr
03-21-2007, 06:52 PM
I think our best bet would to be to stay at the KOA since we have a pop-up trailer camper. Also, we're going to be staying for almost a week, so I will *need* atleast a shower or two.

Just thought I would let everyone know that I have created a dog pack. We are the Pet Talk Pack. If you register before the event DON'T FORGET to choose that as your dog pack!! We can compete for the Golden Mutt award as a dog pack! :) To register online or before the event (pre-registration is $5 cheaper) go here http://www.utahpets.org/strut.html Set up a fundraising page too, its fun, here's mine http://www.active.com/donate/sym07/nebokeva2007

p.s. You do not have to fundraise to go to the event, everyone is welcome in our dog pack reguardless if they are planning to raise money or not. :)

To anyone camping~~I keep thinking about this, and I really don't know of the best place to stay. I'm going to leave it up to everyone else, but I'm happy to help any way that I can. I don't really have any more info than what is available on the internet. There are two KOA's (with showers) nearby, one is in Provo (closer to me) and one is in Salt Lake City (closer to Strut Your Mutt). The one in Salt Lake City is probably nicer, I haven't been there though. You *can* reserve KOA spots. You can't reserve the camping in the canyons until after memorial day. They have water and toilets, that's it, but a much prettier location. Whatever everyone chooses is fine with me, even if we are at different locations we can all meet up to go to SYM/hiking/etc. :)

Okay, so where is everyone camping? We decided on Utah Lake State Park. They seem to be very dog friendly, they are allowed on trails, beaches, etc. No additional fee, $18 a night.

Utah Lake State Park looks nice, plus it's on the way for me to Salt Lake City. When is everyone arriving? I have to find a sub to teach my Friday lessons- if I can, then I will probably get there Friday afternoon (the day before Strut your Mutt).

cmayer31

I'm going to try and get there that Thursday, but I'm not 100% sure what time I'll be arriving. I'll probably just leave early morning from here and get there between 3-4pm.

I registered for the event and wrote in Pet Talk as the pack. :)

I've never been to Utah Lake State Park. :o I've been to Utah Lake, but just various areas....though I do remember my mom mentioning that campground a while ago, I was going to check it out but I forgot. It looks nice though, good choice Kay.

I think we'll all be arriving around the 17th. Does everyone have a cell phone? We'll have to make a phone number list and pm it so we can all find eachother. I don't have a cell phone, but I think Kay does, and I may be able to steal my parents phone. I'm sure driving around the campground we'll find eachother too, just look for the dogs, they're all easy to recognize. :)

To those who want to meet up (Vela, Dab_20, anyone else..) but can't go to Strut Your Mutt lets plan on meeting at the pond at Sugarhouse Park at 12:30. Does that sound ok? I was thinking maybe we could have lunch too, I'm not sure how to work that. Maybe I could leave a cooler in my car with some stuff for sandwiches. Any ideas?

I may be coming to strutt your mutt now. My mom and aunt are trying to convince me to go, it would just be a great time and probably be good socialization for Molli. She's a very nervous dog around a lot of dogs and people, so now I'm nervous as to how she'll react! She's always great around people we meet on our walks but I honestly don't know how she'll be there. If anyone would like my cell phone number, please pm me. :)

Amy, maybe we could divide what we should bring between a few people? Maybe one person brings sandwhiches, one soda, and one person chips/snacks? We could always bring a few blankets to sit on our something.

wolf_Q
04-29-2007, 02:03 AM
That's great, I hope you come! :) Nebo doesn't always get along well with other dogs, and Keva has never been to anything like this so I'm not sure how well my two will be either, so you're not the only one. ;) At least you can pick up Molly and hold her if you need to.

That would be great if we could divide up lunch items. I think there's some nice picnic areas with shade too. I'm not 100% sure there's tables, I can't remember, so bringing some blankets would be a good idea.

There isn't any tables there, at least not in the pond area. I haven't walked through the whole park, but I have walked around it recently and I didn't see any. But I am not 100% sure.

I could swear there are picnic tables somewhere in the trees by the river...not by the pond, but its been a year since I've been there so I really don't remember. We'll figure something out.

Kay we can all stop at a store the night before and pick up stuff, there's certainly no lack of wal-marts around here lol. I just need to remember to get a cooler and hope it stays cool enough in the car until then.

Danielle, no your mom won't have to register, its just the area with the booths that they check your wristband to get in, anyone can go to the park without registering. By the time we have a picnic it will be pretty much over anyway.

Hm.. would it be easier if we all went to a Subway or something and ordered our own sandwhiches, chips, etc? That way we don't have to worry about tempatures of foods, what types of meat everyone likes, etc.

Vela
04-30-2007, 07:41 PM
That's not a bad idea Kay. I can either bring picnic items or help with subway stuff if yall need. How do we want to work it? I'm definitely down for the picnic, they just wont let Soda into Strut your Mutt because she won't be 4 months yet. I will PM you all my cell phone number if you need/want to call to set things up! I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! And I'm bringing my camera! (If I don't forget).

I just found out I got a sub, so I am coming for sure! :D

My husband wants to come, too, so we are going to leave on Friday afternoon after he gets off work, and won't get there till late. So, we would like to meet you at Strut Your Mutt. Is there a good place to do so?

Also, Eric may not walk with us as Adele and Vallis (we will be bringing all three along now) are not at ease (well Vallis is, but he barks, a lot  ) in large groups of dogs...but maybe he could get the picnic set up. :D

Any suggestions on where is a good spot to meet?

Vela
05-02-2007, 03:08 PM
I'm not walking either due to Soda being too young so I'd be happy to help set up the picnic as well and just hang out with anyone else not walking. Maybe we can do a food run or something while everyone else is walking, my husband may come along as well, if he's feeling okay that day.

Vela

I just realized Soda has puppy class that day from 11:30-12:30, but I can leave it somewhat early and meet you guys about 12:45 for a picnic. I also have a Subway right here by my house so if some of you want to tell me what you'd like I can pick it up and bring it with me. Just send me a PM or call my cell and let me know. I think I PMd my number to both Kay and Danielle but if anyone else needs it let me know.

What time is the walk due to be over, do you guys know?

Amy is outside with the dogs, but I'll ask her when she comes back in.

We were thinking of maybe we can all pitch in and you can pick up some pizzas instead of trying to figure out what everyone wants from Subway?

Kfamr
05-04-2007, 09:25 AM
Amy said that the event ends sometime around 12:30-ish, we can meet up around 1:00ish.

We drew a map as to where we can meet. :)

Amy thinks there's picnic table somewhere in the trees between the pond and event booths.

Vela
05-04-2007, 09:35 AM
Okay that sounds great, then I wont have to miss much of her class either, just swing over and get pizzas and cracker, but petco is 2 minutes from my house and so are either pizza place, 5 minutes.

Pizza places usually open at 11 so that should be good,

Pizza Hut or Dominos?

Lets make a list of who likes what and what sizes everyone wants and I'll get those.

Anyone who is coming, please list what pizza you like and put them up here.

I'll buy all the pizza if some others want to bring drinks, plates, cups, cookies etc?

Kfamr
05-04-2007, 09:54 AM
Either is fine for me - whichever is cheaper.
We estimate around 10 people in our group.
Maybe 2 pepperoni, 1 cheese, 1 supreme?

Here's the "menu" ~ If anyone else wants to add something, feel free...

Main Dish ~
Pizza (Vela)

Others/sides~
Cookies (wolf_Q)

Are we going to meet there before Strut Your Mutt? Should we meet around 9:30?

The picnic sounds like a good idea. I can bring a side dish (a non refrigerated item) like chips or crackers. We might have some time to pick up some salad, too.

Could we also request another vegetarian pizza? Cheese is fine, but my husband and I are vegetarians so that's all we can eat. :D

What about for the pups? I'll try to make some yummy dog treats and bring those along, too. How many dogs are we going to have in all?

wolf_Q
05-04-2007, 11:20 AM
The walk begins at 9:15 so we'll have to meet up before that. I think I usually get there around 8:30. If people haven't pre-registered they'll need time to register, plus you have to check in (get your prizes, etc.) I think before the strut we could meet up at the Dog Pack check-in booth. We should all be together after the Strut so I think it's just Vela that will need to find us near the pond then we'll find our way to a picnic table. If we find the picnic tables before that someone could call her and let her know where that is.

Are you staying at the campground Jill? You'll want to give yourself at least 45 minutes to get to the park from there. Dog total...I think 12? (Nebo, Keva, Mufasa, Kiara, Cisco, Frankie, Marta, Adele, Vallis, Cracker, Soda, Molli...did I miss anyone?)

Vela
05-04-2007, 12:19 PM
Okay sounds good, I can add a vegetarian on there as well, I also like those.

1 vegetarian
2 pepperoni
1 cheese
1 supreme

If I go to Pizza Hut do you guys prefer pan pizza or a thinner crust? I don't have a preference myself.

Sounds great to have some dog treats too.

I wish the'd let Soda in! =( I'd skip her class and go to the whole thing but I don't want to leave her out, she's my baby! Well, and I can't pick up pizza at 9 a.m. anyway LOL so it works out fine.

Danielle if you and your mom want any other kinds of pizza just let me know, I'm happy to pick up anything else too. That goes for anyone else too who may have a different preference. I can buy medium sized if you want another kind and they often have specials as well.

LOL, I just realized that it ought to be interesting trying to carry pizzas and dogs...can I call you guys when I get there and maybe someone can come help me carry the pizza from the parking? I have Kay's cell number and Danielle's in my phone right now so I can just quick call. I can see cracker going one direction, soda going the other, and me balancing pizza on my head=x

We're going to try and get there at 8:30 - Lets meet at the Dog Pack Check-in at 8:30am.

For those not coming to the event, meet at the area on the map at 1:00pm.

Vela,
Amy said they you could try bringing Soda to the event. She said she has seen many young puppies there. I don't think they'd say much, you'll be giving them your money for registration, so I couldn't see them denying you entrance.
So, if you're interested in coming we can always go and pick up pizzas or something afterwards.

Actually, I haven't registered for the event yet, and Eric has thrown a wrench into my plans by wanting to come- we can't leave till after he gets off of work on Friday so maybe I will just meet you all at the map at 1 pm instead...that makes more sense, and I'll bring some salad and chips. I'll get there a bit early so I can help carry the pizzas...I'll pm you my cell phone number, Vela.

Since I'm not going to register, I'd be willing to donate to the people walking. :)

The walk starts at 9:15am - so if you'd still like to come to the event I'm sure we can find you. You don't *have* to be there at 8:30am, that's just when we plan on arriving. If not, you have my cell number and you can call me to meet up somewhere whenever you arrive.

That goes for everyone else, too. Just give me a call and we can meet up whenever.

You've gotta come into the event if you're driving all that way! :p ;)

I would love to be able to attend this event. Amy's picutures of Utah are aways so beautiful and I have been wanting to go forever. I wish I had some vacation days. Wonder how much it would cost to fly out on a friday and flay back home on Sunday. That would probably be too much money for such a short trip. Just dreaming!

Oh, I wish you could come! Salt Lake City is a very expensive place to fly unfortunatly, but you can always get discount tickets. ;) :D

Well no puppy class on Saturaday so I will pick up the pizzas at 12, which is when most open for business, and meet you there after, probably around 12:30.

I feel awful today. :( I've had a very stressful couple of weeks, it was probably long coming. I woke up with headache, and a bad sore throat. If I feel like this tomorrow I don't think I will be coming. I'll let everyone know. I hate getting sick before the weekend, and when I have something fun planned!

Robin I wish you could come! If you really decide to come let me know and I'll pick you up at the airport. :) You have to get here one of these days!

Vela, we'll see you then! Since you don't have puppy class if you wanted to come to the Strut I'm sure you'd be fine...I've seen puppies there, I doubt they would give you any trouble because Soda is younger (you can always say she's just a runt ;) ).

I think Craig is traveling here today? I hope you make the drive ok, and I hope Frankie is feeling better. Nebo is going to look silly for SYM, he has "swimmers/dead tail" hopefully it will be better by then.

I'm really sorry to hear you may not be coming Jill. :( We were all really looking forward to meeting you. Sometimes I wake up feeling really bad in the morning but it goes away later on in the day. I hope you get feeling better and are able to make it here!

Now I don't know if I can go! I already registered and every thing and my manager didn't give me the day off. :( I might just call in sick if I can't find someone to cover me.

I'm sorry, but I won't be coming. I'm still feeling very sick and I'm afraid I wouldn't be much fun. :( I'm not really up to driving nearly 500 miles like this, even if Eric drives. I'm so sorry, I really wanted to come and meet everyone. Maybe next year.

Well if Danielle isn't coming and Jill and Eric aren't coming we probably don't need so many pizzas. Sorry to hear you still aren't feeling well Jill. I hope you feel better soon. Danielle if you are going to call in sick and come please let me know so I can make sure to bring enough pizza for you and your mom.

I can bring plates and silverware as well, have those on hand already for camping and barbecues. Is there anything else we need?

Sorry we didn't really get many pictures. It was REALLY hot, and the stupid maintenance man threatened to hose us down if we didnt move....plus some of the pups were a little less then cooperative at times =P Cisco and Cracker decided the both HAD to have the red frisbee, so after a few teeth barings and growlings and one me getting pulled over on the grass, it went into the garbage=x I havent uploaded the few I have yet either, but I sure had a nice time meeting and chatting with everyone. Look forward to doing it again! All of the dogs were sweeties and the people as well. Maybe next time we can meet at a dog park or something a little less hectic and more available for the dogs to get some freedom.

I realy enjoyed meeting everyone. Hope to do it agan sometime soon, or at least sometime.
