My coonhound is going on 5 months old now and still hasn't dropped his testicles. I'm not showing him or breeding him. He's just a pet. He will be neutered come 6-8mos old. I've checked a few times, had a dogshow friend check. nothin. No sign of anything at all. Charlie is going to the vet soon for his rabiese shot. Should I have the vet check if anything is wrong?

Lex, all dogs are different, hun. Scruff never dropped his testicles and was still neutered at 6 months. If wouldn't hurt to have the vet look him over, just to be sure. But I wouldn't stress over it. He is just a late bloomer. :) Don't worry, I am sure he is okay. Let me know what the vet says.

If undescended then the Vet may have to fish around a little more when he is neutered. It is important undescended testicles are removed to avoid a later increased chance of cancer. The operation will most likely take care of the situation.

Yes, the vet will take them out when he neuters him. It may cost you a bit more...usually like $30-$50 extra.

Thanks! I'll have the vet check him out and prolly neuter him before too long. Houston's testicles bobbed up and down until he was 8mos old.
