Italian Greyhounds

I currently do not have a dog (can I be -that- crazy? :D ), but my family and I are looking in to getting one soon.

I've read up about breeds and I believe I have chosen the one that has been best suited for myself and my family. I've informed family members about them and they really liked the breed, as well.

So now, if you haven't guessed by the title, the breed we are looking into getting is an Italian Greyhound.

I would just like to know of other people's experiences with this breed. I've seen quite a few websites on the IGs and it has become quite entertaining to read about some of the things these dogs do. :D

Sorry I can't help out - my experience is with regular (full-size) greyhounds. The Italian Greyhounds that I have met have personalities very similar to the Chihuahua. Sweet, very good with adults, and love to be pampered! MHMama has a Chihuahua; maybe she can provide some insight into living with one of those little cuties!

I don't know that much about IG, but, as 3-greys-and-a-mutt said, they do have the personalities as Chihuahua's!!!! :D They are also very fast, and are used for racing! (Everybody knows that!)

I have no experience with them either, but I absolutely love them! I met one at Petco once. She was the tiniest little thing. Her name was Blanche and she she was sooo sweet. Her owner said she only had one accident in the house and then she learned to go outside. If you're lucky, Iggy, maybe that's a breed trait ;) Good luck with your pup!

I,along with Jessica (3 greys) have first hand experience with the full size greyhound. I just know that IGGYS are kinda fragile, and like the full size have to be on leash at all times You should get ahold of a past issue of DOG FANCY and order their IG issue. It was very informative. I know there are several IG rescue sites.

I love Italian Greyhounds. My mom is thinking about getting one when we move. For the 1st 2 years of their lives you have to watch them very closely because the are very fragile. They are prone to leg and tail fractures. When I went to get my rat the man had an Italian Greyhound, he had produced 12 champions and was very beautiful. He was really sweet and just jumped up on us as soon as we walked in. Even though poeople say they tend to chase small animals, that is not entirely true, this dog lived in a house with 3 cats (which he was sleeping on the couch with), about 20 rats, 4 hamsters, a bucnh of snakes, chameleons, and birds.

I love Italian Geyhounds! When I go to college, I am going to get one because the are so small! When I am older, I am going to get 3 boxers, 2 Greyhounds, 2 Great Danes, and 1 Italian Greyhound! I love them all!

I'd like to thank everyone for their suggestions. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for things that are prone to giving the pup fractures. But I have a question in the fracture concerns-- are adults or pups more prone to fractures? :eek: We're planning to get a puppy.

I seemed to have found the EXACT OPPOSITE of every one else. My nieghbor has one of whom I see a lot. He is the most playful, great with kids, sweetest, smartest (FASTEST!!!!!) dog I have ever seen. He was so playful, always ready to give a little lick, and also, I want to say that my nieghbor has about an acre and a quarter of ground, and at anyrandom point of time( it was funny to watch, it was cute.)he would just TARE and I mean like, run, run fast. When he runs, its actulley a blur, you can't even see his legs moving, but he never would run away! He's very loyal , and loving, and VERY playful, NOT wanting to be pampered, but loving a friendly pat or two. Your so Lucky!!!!!
