View Full Version : My little Puddy girl is really sick again

Hi everyone,
Well, we had quite a long spell where Puddy was doing great. Day before yesterday she was running through the house, throwing her catnip mouse up in the air and being just plain ornery. Yesterday, however, a different story. She's going in to see Dr. Feeman today because Dr. Lee is in surgery all day. She's just lying there, no movement at all. Not eating, not drinking. I gave her two subQ treatments yesterday and I'm going to give her another one this morning before I go to work. But she didn't even try to get into bed w/me like she always does when she's sick. As most of you know, Puddy has had CRF for several years now and she's had some pretty rough times. But she's always come back. This time she appears to be so weak. Please send out your healing prayers for my little Pud. She's my buddy and the protector of my house and the head of the fur posse. I can't imagine my life without her. I'll keep you posted.
Thanx and blessings,
Mary

Poor Puddy! I hope she's just feeling a little under the weather, and not really sick. Maybe all the running around yesterday wore her out and she just needs to re-energize. Positive thoughts for you and Puddy!

I didn't see you online much and I was often thinking of Puddy- I am now sorry to hear she's not well.
Sending all my best wishes- hope the vet finds something to help her.
Tender kisses for the sweet girl.

I was on occasionally but I was having hardwood floors installed and a kitchen countertop torn out, furniture delivered, holidays, etc. Plus my son was home visiting.
No, Puddy is more than worn out, I fear. She hasn't eaten at all for nearly two days now and she was so weak, she couldn't make it to the litterbox and peed on the floor. She feels so bad when she does that that she cries and she cries before she vomits, too. She's been such a happy cat these last couple of years. (She was always a grouch but that's what I loved about her.) Hopefully, Drs. Lee and Feeman can bring her up to snuff the way they always have. But I've never seen her this bad before. She doesn't even lift her head.
My appt. is at 4:00, so I'll post this evening w/good news, I hope. Thanx again for your support and prayers.
Blessings,
Mary

Hugs and prayers for Puddy...hopefully it is something unrelated to her needing subq fluids, and she will be well in no time!
Fingers crossed for good news! :)

I just got home and my eyes are tired from crying and driving in the dark and rain, so I'm going to make this kinda brief. Puddy's left kidney failed and it leaked into the ureter, which leaked urine into her abdomen which caused peritonitis. There were two large malignant masses, one on her kidney and another in the intestines. Dr. Feeman wanted to do the surgery because Dr. Lee wouldn't be in til Monday but I kept insisting that he try to contact him. He got ahold of him and, bless him, he rearranged his weekend plans with his boys who are home from college, to come in and do Puddy's surgery. I like Dr. Feeman but Dr. Lee has the instinct and now you can see why I insist on having him take care of Puddy.
She has to stay the weekend, obviously, in an incubator and with an IV and antibiotics and fluids. He said that having only one kidney isn't good but it's better than having two kidneys, one of which is bad. He felt that he got all of the cancer but he said "I don't have microscopes for eyes, so until the biopsies come back, I won't know for sure. But it looked good. It's in God's hands now. I'd say she has a 50/50 chance." I told him that I'll take that chance! He's hoping that Puddy's "meanness", as he put it, will get her through this.
My little 5 lb. of pure terror came through again but she still needs your prayers, friends. He said it's gonna be rough going for her. If he had opened her up and found that she had cancer everywhere, I would've had to do the unthinkable. But I can't help but feel that she has yet another chance. I'll talk to him or Dr. Feeman tomorrow to find out how she's doing and I'll post then.
Thanx, friends, for all of your support.
Blessings,
Mary

Dr. Feeman called just a few min. ago and told me that, given that Puddy is only 13 hours out of surgery, she's up and walking around. Her levels are all elevated but that's to be expected. He said that when Dr. Lee opened her up, he was shocked at how bad the left kidney was. She shows no interest in food right now so they're going to give her an appetite stimulant if she doesn't eat soon.
I was prepared to have to put her to sleep. But I wanted to hear it from Dr. Lee. He knows her history and he's the one who has treated her and when I took her in last time I said "I can't keep putting her through this." and he said "She has long periods of doing well and I think you'd be short changing Puddy. I'll let you know when it's time." He's not a money hungry vet; he truly likes Puddy and he grins every time he sees her. Dr. Feeman said "Dr. Lee must really think a lot of Puddy and of you to rearrange his wknd plans w/his sons to come in on a Fri. evening to perform surgery, esp. after he was in surgery all day." So I trust Dr. Lee's judgment.
I fell into bed exhausted last night and slept well. I was awake but snug under the covers this morning when the phone rang. It's still raining and it was so warm and safe, except that my bunk buddy Puddy was missing. But when I heard Dr. Feeman's voice, I could tell that it was positive news. He said that she's not out of the woods yet but if she continues the way she's going, I can probably take her home on Monday.
Boy, this was a tough one! And, of course, this expensive surgery had to come just when my estimated taxes are due and right after the holidays. Great timing! But my little girl is worth it, as long as I see that she has quality of life and isn't in any great pain. What a fighter this girl is!
Thanx again, friends, for all your concern and support. I'll talk to Dr. Feeman again this aft. for an update and I'll post then.
Blessings,
Mary

Looks as if you really have good vets there who share your love for Puddy.
And regarding he fact that it was a really big surgery for a weak kitty Puddy is doing amazingly- I am sure she wants to come home with you :)

I just got off the phone w/Dr. Lash this time; Dr. Feeman isn't in today. But Dr. Lee called to check on Puddy and they told him that she's growling and hissing and he said "That's all I need to know." So, apparently, he feels that's a good thing. I think it's really good cuz she couldn't even lift her head for two days. She still hasn't eaten but she's sniffing her food so that tells me she's prob. hungry but doesn't like what they're giving her, even though it has her favorite, chicken, in it. They're going to wait to give her the appetite stimulant since she isn't even 24 hours out of surgery. Dr. Feeman said he would call me tomorrow, Sunday, to update me again. Keep up the prayers that Puddy eats so that I can bring her home.
Blessings,
Mary

Thanks for the updates. I'm glad to hear that she's doing well. It sounds like you have a little fighter there.:)

She's a fighter, alright! She's been to hell and back w/CRF and an inflamed colon plus she started her life w/a hind leg that doesn't reach the floor and a crooked tail that's full of knots and can't stand up all the way. This cat is so tough; that's why Dr. Lee said "that's all I need to know". He knows if she's quiet, it's a bad sign. I'll relax more when I get her home and can keep an eye on her.
Blessings,
Mary

Puddy is always so feisty. She knows where she likes to be and she wants to be with her meowmie. She has no intentions of going anywhere anytime soon.
What a scrappy little girl she is. Go get em tiger. Show em you mean business and that you are not about to be kept down just yet. Show em you still have a few more of your 9 lives left.
prayers and pawsitive thoughts for Puddy and for you Mary. We are all behind you and Puddy 150%.
Get well sweetheart. We know you can do it.

I'll tell ya, when the sun went down, so did my spirits. The mind is a powerful thing; it can be your friend or foe. During the day I was telling myself that Puddy is healing, she's in good hands, she'll be home soon...But as soon as dark set in, my mind allowed negative thoughts to take over and now I'm scared. Last night I slept well due to exhaustion. Tonight I'm gonna miss my bunkmate. I have a high bed and she's so little that when she jumps up, she always lets out her karate yell first. Then she gives me head bumpies (a hint that "I'll take my noggin noogie now, Mom"), then she settles in, reaches up to touch my face w/her paw and gets the motor runnin'. Her purr is so loud that sometimes I have to tell her to go to the bottom of the bed. Sigh. I want so badly to hear that purr. I know that I'm getting myself down; I thought that if I saw it in print that maybe I'd smack myself out of this funk. So please forgive me for my rambling. I just don't like thinking about my little Puddy w/a big incision and alone w/out me to hold her and give her noggin noogies. On the other hand, Dr. Feeman told me that I was right to insist that Dr. Lee operate last night because he knows that she wouldn't have lived until Monday. There. I guess I smacked myself upside the head. :p
Blessings,
Mary

Prayers for you and Puddy. Sounds like she's a spit-fire who has the will and determination to hang in there, and must love you tremendously! Monday is a short time away... maybe you can go get her some new toys, or maybe a new soft blanket to sleep on to take your mind elsewhere and keep busy, and also know that it will be for her benefit to make her happy and spoiled more!

I've been having computer problems AGAIN, so tomorrow I'm PC shopping. It'll take my mind off Puddy for a while, too. Anyhow, I'm hoping this pic goes through. It's of my Puddy girl.

After reading all the way through this, I was hoping for a picture of this strong little girl. :) She is beautiful!! Even though I can't see her face. LOL
I can't wait to see more pictures of her when you get her home where she belongs, with her meowmie. :D
Thanks for keeping us updated with Puddy's condition.
She sounds like quite tough little a survivor!
It's understandable you being sad and all.
When your furchild is back home in your arms, your spirits will soar once again! :)

Hi Friends,
Dr. Feeman just called and he said "Well, she's still energetic and grouchy, which is good for her." :D She ate a little during the night but he felt that she may not be eating due to stress, so he gave her some anti-anxiety medicine and the appetite stimulant and this morning she ate a full breakfast. Atta girl, sister! So he said that, as long as she keeps the food down and is still energetic, I may be able to bring her home tomorrow. He said to wait until after 3:00 or so for the definite answer, in case they want to keep her for one more day.
So it looks like the Pudilator dodged another bullet. But I'll let you know for sure when I can bring her home. Thanx again, friends, for all your prayers and support. What a blessing you are to me and my fur posse.
Blessings,
Mary

I wish I could bottle and patent whatever this little girl's got inside her that keeps her going like the Energizer bunny. Dr. Lee told me that he's been a vet for 25 years and Puddy is the toughest cat he's ever dealt with. If you could just see the expression on her face sometimes when she's really pissed, you'd laugh. She's so cute and then she can look so demonic. I just love her so much and I can't wait to bring my little girl home. I know that my little deaf cat, Creamsicle, is wondering where she is. C girl is the only cat that Puddy actually likes; she simply tolerates the rest of the fur posse. She and C girl groom each other and Creamsicle has been following me like my shadow. She'll be happy to have Puddy back home, too, except that Pud will have to be isolated for a while. Everyone else will probably think "Yeah, great, the Queen is home. Woo hoo..."

Dr. Lee just said "She's back to her mean, nasty self and she's eating like a storm trooper, so get 'er outa here." (Said in a good natured way) :p I have a dr. appt. myself today, so I'm gonna bring her home early this evening cuz I don't want to bring her home, then have to leave her. So I'll post this evening and let you all know how she's doing.
