This year for Christmas I gave almost everyone I know a portrait of their dog. I'm taking care of someone's house while they are away and I took care of their border collie Sam overnight because they accidentally messed up the date he was supposed to go to the kennel. They way over paid me for doing this and they also gave me a Christmas present to boot. So to thank them for their kindness I want to do a portrait of Sam for them. Only I'm having trouble picking the picture. Any help is appreciated.

5 is great - the colouring is very nice, and he looks very happy and natural. :)

I agree, that I'd have to say #5 is my favorite. =]

I do like 5 but I think his eyes show up more in 7. I would go for 6or 7.

I'd say number 5 has the best lighting, expression, and overall composition. If Sam were my dog, that's the picture I'd choose to print out of the group.

They are all so nice, but I picked #5. I love how warm the photo looks as well has his smile. :)

I like the lighting in the first few, the last couple seem too brightly lit. It just depends on the feeling you want to give off, the first ones are more wintery feeling. I definitely like the photos with his tongue out the least. His expressions are nicer with his mouth closed. That's just my opinion, though. They're all really nice and they are going to love the gift, no matter which photo you choose. I vote for the first one. :)

I thought #5 had the best composition, lighting, and feel to it. He looks alert, and he is gazing directly at the camera - good eye contact. Plus, the lighting is really nice.
You did a great job, they are all nice photos & I'm sure his owners would be happy to have any one of them.

It's looking like #5 is the most picked one but I loved #1.

I like 6. More pup, less background. :D

I just want to thank everyone who voted. Funny how things work, but by reading the results I was able to choose my favorite by how I reacted to them. :) I really like number 3 myself, and I think my photography teacher would have liked it. I'm leaning to printing and framing that one but I'm still not 100% sure. Regardless I will put the rest of the pics on a disk for them to have and print their own if they so choose. I also have a few action shots of Sam.
Thanks again for all your input. :)

Hahaha, I do that, too. :) It's the simplest way to find out where your heart is. ;) Good choice, I'm glad you chose one of the first ones, I love the lighting in those! and, with his mouth closed, you can really focus on his expression. Mouth open, you really just see his big ol' pink tongue. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but they probably have a ton of pictures with his tongue out already. Good idea giving them a cd with the rest of them!

All of the pics were taken on the same day. Its amazing what a few hours will do to the lighting. I too like the lighting in the first few. I think I prefer a more serious pic and that's the feel I get from those pics. :)

Oh, I know what you mean. I've lost good lighting in five minutes before, it can be frustrating! But, I guess it's part of the challenge, eh? ;) I love the cooler, deeper feeling in the first few, too. They're all lovely, though, it's a great series.
