Hey,

I was thinking of etting a FURminator for Jenny. Well, they seem to be over-priced for all they are, really. But I didn't want to get a knock-off brand.

SO... I was wondering... are used brushes bad for dogs? Of course, I'd leave it in a air-tight plastic bag for a week to kill any fleas,( ect.) I didn't even think of it until I saw an ad for a new one that said "sealed for your pet's protection".

thanks

I really don't see the need to seal used brushes up in a plastic bag for a week. Simply cleaning as much of the fur out of them as possible and soaking them in a bucket of bleach water for 15-20 minutes should be more than sufficient. I don't see a problem with using pre-owned brushes.

A bucket of bleach water. OK, thanks. I was going with the head lice technique. You put anu possesion in a plkastic bag until all the creepy crawlies die.

I also wash my brushes in dog shampoo. Each dog has their own brush, with their names marked on the different pin brushes. I use a collie rake on the skirts, and that one I wash as I only have two. A friend of mine sprays her brushes with a common flea spray aerosal once a month. I do not do chemicals but that is what she does.
