Even though he's not mine anymore, he was adopted by his forever owner this past July, he is leaving a large hole in my heart. He was a foster kitty, in a shelter, for more than 10 years. I took him home, along with his buddy, Bear, during June of 2005. They were both FIV+, and getting overlooked at the shelter. I just couldn't fathom no one wanting these two. They were the sweetest cats on earth.
Bear passed over the bridge this summer, after a chronic upper respiratory illness couldn't be treated any longer, and his liver began to fail. I held him as he was PTS, and cried for over a week. He was as close to me as any of my own cats were. A handsome, black and white tuxie boy, with so much love.
Mac was adopted before Bear passed, and was living a wonderful life with his new mommy. He had another kitty to keep him company, and was loved by the family's dog as well. His new mommy said she couldn't imagine not having him all her life, he was just so sweet and special.
I got the email this morning, and have just been able to cope with writing about him. His mommy said he started going down hill over the weekend, and was having a hard time breathing, and by the time he went to the vet on Monday night, he was in much distress. The doctor xrayed him, and he had a large tumor, a fast growing tumor, growing in his chest. His little body started shutting down, and the vet felt it was the best to put him to sleep before he'd suffer any more. He was 14 years old, and only ever had a permanent home for the last 6 months of his life. He was loved dearly by all the volunteers who knew him, as he was practically the mascot of the shelter. He was a good boy, and at least I know that he is with his buddy Bear again, and they will never again be apart.
I miss you both so much.
