Snow Ball Fetch

This game is fun! All you need is a little bit of snow and of course- a dog! All you have to really do is make a snow ball and throw it in the air. Your dog would chase after it. It's a fun game for you and of course- your dog! :D

AH, the memories this brings back. This game was always a failure with our first Saint Bernard Freckles. Not that she didn;t love it, but it usually went like this ...

1. Human makes a snowball with Freckles eagerly watching
2. Ready? asks human, cocking arm, Freckles crouches to run
3. Human throws snowball, Freckles avidly following it




4. If the snowball landed, Freckles would pounce on it, then get all confused as to where it went.

Note to cosmos: snowballs are not designed to withstand being pounced on by 185 pounds of excited dog. They cease being snowball, and end up back as part of the snowpack on the ground.

Sigh. Go to step one again ... It only worked if she would catch one in the air, but pouncing it was so much more fun ...

AWWW! That's soo cute! It's kinda different but not that much! Did Freckles usually eat the snowball after he pounced on it? Most dogs usually do that. My dog, Dallas, use to catch the snow ball in the air and eat it! So cute! :D

Laughing at Karens story-
Borzoi way to play this game- you ready- owner ready to throw- Borzoi watching with a slow tail wag- owner throws it, Borzoi dives to stop the movement, but the fun is in the chase- lands on the ground- Borzoi stares at it like " well its not moving anymore- got another one? This one faster please.." and a glare of - " can you keep the next one up in the air longer to chase.." ( I wonder if you can lure course in snow.. lol)

She'd sniff the ground, but after 185 pounds of enthusiasm lands on a snowball, there's no "ball" left to eat - just squashed snow that blends in with the rest of the squashed snow!

Jenny begs to differ. She hates it. :p She thinks it's a ball, so she chases it, she hears it hit the ground and spend hours looking for it. Not realising that I threw snow. Also, often it breaks when it hits the ground

And I always end up getting cursed at near the end of our game. :rolleyes:

Of course I've seen a snowball, but my dogs haven't. :(

I learned about throwing snow balls from a friend with a chihuahua that likes it. She like Hyzzie runs after it then looks for the missing ball. I toss another and she's off again. She likes it but does get frustrated after a bit so bring a toy or real ball to toss and then wind up having to find it for her in the snow anywy, lol, so mostly throw snow balls.

But if she does find the real ball then it's a whole new game She digs at it tosses it herself and punces and dig it up again playing like a fox in the snow.

Colbi loves doing that! Although sometimes she "chokes" on the snow...lol :p

Rusty thinks it is a great game to watch out of the window as getting his paws in the white stuff is not on his list of things to do :rolleyes:

Goofy will play it until i throw it at which point she gives me and Jas the look that says " You threw YOU go get it"

Haven't tried with Sequoia yet hasn't snowed since she arrived :eek:
