View Full Version : A Pet of the Day Fundraiser!
Karen
12-17-2006, 11:52 PM
For the past nine years, we have been featuring a new Dog, Cat and Pet story every day. For the first time, we are trying something new. We are having the first (and perhaps only) Pet of the Day fundraiser to help us pay for the Internet hosting and computer-related costs of running the websites.
We are delighted to bring a little bit joy into the hearts of people around the world each day. If you are willing and able to send us a donation of $10 (or more) to defray the last year's costs, and help us upgrade for the coming year, we would be grateful.
If you are a child, this message is not for you.
For general discussion post here, or for specific questions, you can email Paul. (
[email protected])
Please choose donating (http://PetoftheDay.com/fundraiser.html) through Amazon, PayPal, or our postal address:

DONE!! :)
In a Heartbeat! :D
Can't think of a more worthy cause - this site give SOOO Many of us Soooo Much Pleasure ...
Helping to cover some of the costs seems only fair.
Hopefully enough other Pet Talkers will feel the same way - and the costs can
be easily recovered.
GLAD to Help out!!

I am a bit tight on money at the moment between the holidays and Mufasa. However, when the holidays are over and I catch up I will certainly be sending a donation. How long will you guys be accepting?

You can bet your bottom dollar we will get some funds to you. This amazing community is all because of you and Paul and the least we can do is donate.
I will have to send snail mail though. Hope that is ok. I will PM you when I send it so you can be on the lookout for it. :)

So am I not to donate because I'm a "child"?
I think you are old enough to participate - we just know little kids - too young to even belong to Pet Talk - view the homepages and even browse Pet Talk, and we didn't want any little kids clicking away with a parent's credit card without permission, you know?

Karen, your timing is great ... I got paid Friday ... it's time to send a gift to the shelter from which I adopted Cassie and helping with Pet Talk costs goes perfectly with that ... thank you for asking and thank you for all you do with Pet Talk! I'm one who has gotten much pleasure from the site. Thanks again -- Elyse

Absolutely! A check will be in the mail.

I would also be very willing the pay a "membership" fee to help pay for those upgrades. Just a thought.

Man, I don't know if I'll have any extra cash before then. I literally spent my last $20 last night on some gifts. I get paid Thursday but that money will go towards the last of my Christmas shopping, shipping for packages to PT'ers, and then Mufasa's vet visit on the 27th, and who knows how expensive that will be. Would you mind if I sent it sometime in January?

I would also be willing to pay a small monthly membership fee. For instance, www.fansofrealitytv.com, I pay $2 a month. It's a lot bigger site but I know there's people that would be willing to do that. This site is getting a lot bigger and I think it's a good idea to have donations all the time.

Yes, I have also gotten many years of pleasure out of Cat of the Day. Though I seldom have time to read and/or participate in the discussion threads, I ALWAYS enjoy the cat picture and story each time I open my computer for the day. I love the peaceful simplicity of the site, with no pop-ups or dancing images on the screen! So if you upgrade, please don't go there...I am happy to help you avoid ramping up the advertising beyond its current unobtrusive Google format.
Best wishes,

I wanted to add, a great way to raise money would to be PT merchandise. I don't know the amount, but I do know some non-Pet Talk folks have contributed. Amazon doesn't even let us see what email address anyone donated from, so I cannot check anyone specific, but we have receieved donations through Amazon, as well as PayPal and checks in the mail.

Karen ~ I had a thought after reading your posting about the banana bread recipe. How about if we organize a Pet of the Day (or Pet Talk) book of recipes?
We submit our favorite recipe(s) with our username and a photo of our pets (or ourselves or whatever) and print up a book. The proceeds of the sales would go to keep the Pet of the Day up and running.
The pet calendar website (I can't remember it off the top of my head) might have a template we can use for organizing and publishing a book.
I regret that I would not be able to volunteer to take this on right now, but with all the talented folks here, there are probably some who have experience in a project like this.
Whatcha think?

Karen, I'm bumping up this reeeeeeeeeeeally old thread because I want to ask - how is this going? Is the advertising providing sufficient funding, or would donations still be helpful?
Thanks,
Elyse
Edited at 8:00 PM to add: Kuhio98, I think a cookbook would be a terrific idea. My best friend from college did one for her theater group fund-raiser through Morris Publishing. You collect the recipes and submit them to the publishing house, and they turn it into a spiral-bound book.

For the past nine years, we have been featuring a new Dog, Cat and Pet story every day.
For the first time, we are trying something new.
We are having the Pet of the Day fundraiser to help us pay for the Internet hosting
and computer-related costs of running the websites.
We are delighted to bring a little bit joy into the hearts of people around the world each day.
If you are willing and able to send us a donation of $10 (or more) to defray the
last year's costs, and help us upgrade for the coming year, we would be grateful.
For general discussion post here, or for specific questions, you can email Paul. (
[email protected])
Please choose donating (http://PetoftheDay.com/fundraiser.html) through Amazon, PayPal, or our postal address:

Thank you very much for being part of PetoftheDay.com.
We are happy to do these sites, regardless of the success of this fundraiser.
The reference to "donating" in the post quoted above brings you to a
Pet Talk page that offers LINKS to donating via PayPal and Amazon ...
Here's that page once again >>>

Karen ~
Can you Verify that those links on that "donating" page are still the correct
links to Pet Talk Fundraiser?

Yes, that page is still correct in terms of ways and links to donate!

Merry New Year, Karen & Paul! :)
There's a few pennies on the way via PayPal.
Let me know that they arrive in the proper account.

I need to remember to just send in a donation each year, regardless. This site is so important to me and my "kids". I love sharing stories and reading others stories. Honestly, when I can't check in I begin to panic!!!
Karen, I'm going to send you a check through snail mail this weekend. I hope that's okay. I do not have paypal or anything. It's easier for me to just send a check.

Snail mail is perfectly fine, thank you! :)

I think the PT recipe book is a great idea, and if I can help with that in any way, I'll be glad to. :)

We prefer to keep everything free to view! Fairer to all that way.

An offroad forum and a gun forum Im a member of have pay to play areas, it was just an idea for the Dog House.
ETA: Another bonus of the pay to play area is for site sponsers/advitisers to have raffles or give a ways for paid members. An incentive for advitisers and members alike. For those wanting to addvertise their business and wares that would be a different type of paid membership.

I have complete and utter hatred of websites that make you pay to do something special in them. Its unfair to people who just dont want to pay to access a certian part of a website.

I like a free for a free for all too, but I also appreciate offerring extras to supporting members who help pay the bills.
Like I said, it was just an idea.
To keep the site free for all maybe some of those who frequent or addvertise in the Marketplace could put together a raffle to benefit PetTalk, as a way of giving back to the community. If I can get the parts I can throw some glow in the dark leashes in for a raffle, made to length, I could even do a glow in the dark coupler. Make the tickets cheap, and offer discounts on blocks of tickets of 10 or more.

I have thought about this (puzzled and puzzled 'til my puzzler is sore), but dunno how we'd do a raffle - seeing as I'm only familiar with the old-fashioned kind, where tickets are thrown into a jar and drawn out ... but we do appreciate your thought, though!
I imagine glow-in-the-dark leashes would be even more popular further North, where you are - Floridians may not even know that this time of year, even as far South as Massachusetts, by the time folks get home from work it is solidly dark out!
We do thank folks the contributions we have received!

that sounds like a great idea...with all different kinds of animals on it.
they are soon having liscense plates here in maine where it says adopt a pet...with a dog, cat, horse and bird on it.
but we got special ones already about supporting our troops...so we may not get them...not sure.maybe later in the future sometime.
but those t'shirts sound like a great idea for pettalk.

I made numerous attempts at that for the millionth post thing. I still would like a PT shirt. I even offered to set it up on Cafe Press.

Has anyone gotten a shirt from Cafe Press? Paul is just concerned about the quality.
In any case, thank you again to all who have sent donations, we really appreciate it!

Has anyone gotten a shirt from Cafe Press? Paul is just concerned about the quality.Les from Nothin' Butt Dogs donated shirts & hats to one of our Husky Hikes for the auction- I'm sure they were produced by Cafe Press, & they were quite nice. Good quality shirt, good job on the printing too.

Yepper, I have a couple. One has the Czech flag on it and one says, "Nursing - A Work of Heart". They are both Hanes T-shirts, same as ones you might buy from Wal-Mart. My nursing one has a lot of different colors in the design. Cassie barfed on it and I was worried that the stain wouldn't come out - of course, she barfed on the front of it-- thanks, cat. But it came out no problem. They are good weight- not too thin, true to size, and my Czech flag one is tagless. They're well-made and hold up well in the wash.
