I have been negligent in introducing you to Ebony. He was my parents' cat. My brother found him wandering around their church in 1991 or 1992, full-grown. He and my parents adopted him. He really was my dad's cat. When my dad died in 2000, my mom kept Ebony, even though she wasn't a big fan of cats. Christmas 2005 I needed to take him, since she was getting sick and couldn't care for him anymore. He was full of mats and underweight.
After letting him acclimate for awhile, I took him to the vet for a checkup, teeth cleaning and much-needed de-matting. The "before" lion cut picture is first. His weight by now had gone back to 14 lbs (as a Maine Coon, he maxed out over 20). The second pic is from September, in full coat.
In late October, he went off his feed, and started losing weight. After a couple of false starts he was diagnosed with probable pancreatic cancer around Thanksgiving. As he was eating better and active from some medication and special food, I decided to hold off any decision.
This past week he crashed fast. I think he lost 2 lbs in a week. He would only eat a tiny bit of food. He would only eat Gouda cheese, of all things. So yesterday he made the big trip to the Rainbow Bridge.
Ebony would do stuff like lick my hair, and touch me with his paw to let me know he needed scritches. He would walk around meowing to himself. He had a champion purr motor which didn't run down until the very end.
Go find Smokey and Pixel at the Rainbow Bridge. They have some deli turkey and Gouda cheese waiting for you.
