Kitty had her spay surgery yesterday at the humane society she originally came from. She should have been spayed before she left there, but the people who surrendered her told them she was already spayed. :confused: The humane society was very nice about it and had me bring her in and did the surgery for free and even cleaned her teeth for me while she was out.
Unfortunately she wasn't doing well afterwards. She had vomited and was quite lethargic (which I expected), but when she was still turning down food this morning I started to get concerned. After I got back from the barn early this afternoon and she hadn't moved off the couch and wouldn't even go outside, I called my vet to ask when I should start to be concerned. He wanted me to bring her right in to have a look at her.
While she didn't have a fever, her glands were swollen and she was more lethargic than he liked. He put her on an antibiotic and Rimadyl for the next four days since she did appear to be in quite a bit of discomfort. Boy what a difference that made! Just a few hours after the Rimadyl she's moving around better and even ate a little bit. :D I'm glad the humane society took care of spaying her, but almost wish I'd have just had my vet do it. They didn't send her home with any post-op instructions or pain medication. They literally handed me her leash and said "there you go!"
At least she's on the road to recovery now.
