View Full Version : Please say a prayer for Jackie

I received an email from Jackie's daughter in law a little while ago. Please read and keep them in your prayers. We all know how much Jackie loves Perry and Daisy, and I know how much you all love Jackie. :(

This is Colleen. I need to ask you to pass on some sad information. This morning Jackie and Don were at the store and left Daisy and Perry in the upper back yard and when they came home the Pitbulls next door got through the fence and attacked Daisy and Perry. They are both at the vet and stable ?????? We are really upset with the laws though. The dogs were still in the back yard when they came home. After the vet, they went to animal control to have someone come and remove them. Animal control took the dogs and then the owner came home and they returned them to her. Only a ticket for basically trespassing. Please pass on to everyone in the community that they may not be on the site for a little while and hope everyone will say a prayer for both Daisy and Perry.

Thanks Logan,

Colleen

OMG. I am so upset as well. I can't believe this has
happened to one of our dearest Pet Talkers. Prayers
are being said now for Don, Jackie Perry & Sweet baby
Daisy. I can't believe that Animal Control would release
the dogs back to the owner.(no matter what breed) They
should by law be impounded till an investigation is done.
What the heck kind of laws do they have in that town? :(

Perry and Daisy will recover fully.
My heart goes out to you that something
so devestating has happened in your own
back yard.

This is just awful! :( Jackie had just sent me a picture of the new fence that Don and her son had put up to protect her little ones so that nothing like this would happen. I really can't believe that the dogs were allowed to return! There is something wrong with our laws folks!!! Jackie if you are reading this, please know that you will be in my thoughts constantly until I hear that your two precious little ones have been released from the hospital and are well and home again.

It's a very sad event that Jackie feared might happen...
She posted the following just two days ago:

"Believe me we have a life and Don is 72 and I'm 66 and we love all animals especially our two "little dogs" Miss Daisy and Perry.

In a reverse situation we had a young man move into the house next door with two children and three Pit Bulls and all we had was a four foot chain link fence. We didn't fight with him, although I was scard to death of the Pit Bulls, scared for my dogs too. The big pit bull does not like women or other dogs. I talked to the young man and explained my situation that I was afraid of them, he keeps them tied up because there is no fence around his house, and at night he takes them in.

We talked and he is planning on putting a fence up and I gave him some bones for his dogs and we are getting along well...

My family came over and built a six foot fence for us so that we don't have to worry about his dogs attacking ours. Now all I have to worry about is his dogs being outside all day tied up and sometimes without water and he is a very young man. /s/ Jackie

You are right Cinder & Smokey, we should all hold good
positive thoughts for Daisy & Perry that they should be
well and not badly injured. Still , they were in their own
yard. I don't think a call for vengeance is necessary; but
what about plain old justice. The owner of these other dogs
should be held accountable for what they have done.:(
I hope with all my heart that Daisy & Perry are not badly
hurt, and I offer prayers for Don & Jackie as well.

Of course we are all praying for Daisy, Perry, Jackie and Don, but the fact that this happened just angers me. Jackie and Don had tried their best to see that this wouldn't happen and then this! I guess it strikes a really raw nerve because my childhood dog was attacked by a dog while my dad was walking him and it took a lot of time and a lot of vet bills to restore him to health. Also, the original Bella here at Pet Talk (for those who haven't been around as long as I have) was a toy poodle who was attacked by two large dogs. Unfortunately she didn't make it. :( My anger comes from the fact that Jackie tried to keep her dogs safe and was not able to in spite of her efforts. What is to guarantee that this won't happen again once Daisy and Perry come home (and believe me I hope it is soon!!!) Surely something must be done to ensure their safety. Oh please, please hurry and get well Perry and Daisy. You are very special to us all!

Here is an update from Colleen (I think), although it was typed using Don's MSN ID over at their community. I am going to be gone all day tomorrow. It would be helpful if one of you, who is a member both places, would check that board for updates and post them here. Pam? Sandra? Can you please do that?

:(Thanks everyone for your prayers. We heard from the vet and Perry is in bad shape. He has both lungs collapsed and numerous puncture wounds. Daisy has a bad front leg and may be not be able to use it any more. We will know more tomorrow. They are both too weak for surgery and will have to wait. Please continue your prayers for Don, Jackie, Daisy and Perry. They will need it. I will keep you informed as the information comes through.

Please continue to pray for our precious little friends, Perry and Daisy.

I spoke with Don on the phone for a short time tonight. He is heartbroken, but worried as much about Jackie as he is Perry and Daisy. They all have a long road ahead. We cried together on the phone. It seems grim right now, but these two are fighters or they never would have survived this attack.

Your support means the world to Jackie and Don. Please keep it up, and hopefully Pam, Sandra or someone will move any new posts over here tomorrow, so you can know about the latest news. I'll check in tomorrow night, as fast as I can.

Love to you all, and thank you, from Jackie and Don, and me. :(

Something, something, was drawing me back to Pet Talk tonight and now I know what it was.

Jackie, I am sitting here with tears in my eyes for you. I can just imagine the pain and horror being shared by you and your husband, Don.

You have all of my prayers that both Perry and Daisy will be alright and home with you soon.

I recently posted about a horrible dog attack in my neighborhood and the owners absolutely must be held accountable.

But regardless of what must be done - my heart goes out to you now - this is such awful news.

I have just come from For the Love of Dogs and there is no more news of of yet. I posted this over there and thought I would just paste it here since we need everyone to be praying for Perry and Daisy.

I am in shock and numb. Disbelief at this horrible tradgedy and wondering why and how flood my being. Tears run down my cheeks. But the only thing that is really needed now are prayers. Will you please pray with me on behalf of Perry and Daisy and Jackie and Don. Thank you.

Dear Heavenly Father,
We come to you so often in this life to ask for your blessings and healings. We do this because we are helpless and in need of your hope and mercy. You are a God of life and miracles and we acknowledge our need for your intervention. And again we come to you Lord with another request. Please heal our two dear doggie friends Perry and Daisy from all the injuries that they have sustained. Touch the vets who are looking over them and anoint their hands and give them the knowledge they need to have your miracles worked through them. Please be with Jackie and don and give them the strength they need as they go through this terrible trial.

Dear Lord, you say where ever two or more are gathered in your name, you will hear their prayers. We ask that you hear and answer our prayers now on behalf of these two very special doggie friends. You are our only hope Lord and we acknowledge our need in you. Please hear our prayer!
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, AMEN

I couldn't sleep all night, I am so worried, Daisy and Perry are my life. We keep calling the Vet and they say they are holding their own. It was horrible, we got home from the store and I said to Don Perry must be sleeping he's not barking. I got to the steps and he was there barely breathing, I looked up and Daisy was in her doghouse bleeding, her shoulder bleeding and looked out of place.
On the patio, in a little alcove was the Pitbull, he crashed through the six foot fence, just smashed it. I didn't care that he was there and Don ran with Perry to the car and I ran up and got Daisy out of her house and ran past the pitbull swung the gate closed and ran to the car with her.
We went through red lights anyway we could to get to the Vet. As they say Perry's lungs were collapsed, hardly breathing, they said they managed to get one lung inflated. But he is very ill.
When I picked up Daisy she was in such pain that she bit me and I have bites all over my hands, but I didn't care.

I have been praying all night, I can't live without those two dogs, if they don't make it I don't think I will.

Our family stayed with us and our youngest daughter stayed the night. We keep calling and they keep telling us they are holding their own. They say we can go to see them this morning and we will of course.

The girl next door is "Section 8" government subsidy housing, lives with a boyfriend, two kids and three pitbulls. According to the animal control, they don't have to fix the fence, just confine their dogs. We have a big hole in the fence right now and I am afraid to go out, our back door is there and he could come right
back in. Animal control said it's our problem to fix the fence.
They gave the girl a ticket and turned the dogs right back to her.

Thank you for all your prayers, we need all we can get right now.
I'm devestated. I didn't have my Daisy to sleep with last night.
Jackie
Maybe someone could post this on "For the Love of Dogs"

Oh my gosh. What a dreadful thing has happened. I know that pitbulls have a bad reputation, as do many large dogs. My brother in law had an Akita that nearly killed our Scottie dog, when I was younger. You just never know when it will happen. My heart goes out to you and your family and my thoughts will be with you and your pups. My neighbors have pups like yours and they have pulled through some severe situations. Terriers are tuff!

I hope all the best for you and your pups. Gosh. Such a mess to be in. Please keep us posted.

I would consider moving or complaining to the section 8 folks about the quality of tenant...... - I would also head straight to small claims court. No dollar amount can offset your upset but to try to prevent this from happening again would certainly be appropriate as far as I am concerned.

My gosh. How awful. You will be in my prayers.

How hard, how sad
When one's worst fears come true
And the rest of us,
Who know how much you love them
Who know how you tried to be good neighbors
Who know how strong your hearts are
Who see how kind your hearts still are
When you could have focused on anger and recrimination
But didn't, just on worry
The rest of us
So many, so far away
Your dogs, your babies - we know they are
Those whose personalities we know so well,
Daisy, Perry, when they are so cruelly hurt
We hurt with you,
And for you

And though Frost said "good fences make good neighbors"
We know that sometimes isn't enough,
And the people on both sides of the fence
Have to do their part,
And you DID!

And so we pray, from other countries, other coasts,
That Daisy and Perry will survive, and live
To be spoiled again
And take up that spot
On the big bed
That seems so empty now.

We pray for you all.

We went to visit Perry and Daisy this morning, Daisy is doing good now, she has some puncture marks, and her shoulder as the vet said is like someone twisted it, but she can stand up and not put much pressure on her leg and shoulder. She has some open wounds but doing much better I think. She wagged her little tail when she saw us and licked my finger. I gave her many, many kisses. They still don't know if they will have to operate. But is was a relief just to see her.

Perry is very ill, we don't know for sure if he will make it. He has one lung that is inflated and they are still taking liquid out of the other. His throat and neck is swollen quite bad and lots of puncture wounds. He has some holes in his lungs and the air is escaping, but they hope they will close themselves. The pitbull attcked his throat.

We think Perry was very brave and fought off the Pitbull to keep Daisy safe, and she got to escape into her doghouse and he took the brunt of the attack. It was a little encouraging though because when we saw him he lifted his head and tried to stand up. We brought them both their favorite night night pigs to sleep with. They put them both together on the table so we could visit them together.

I think your prayers are maybe working miracles and I just hope you keep them coming we need them right now. We are going back this afternoon to visit them again, the Vet said Perry was very depressed and I think it helps them a lot. Just keep your pets safe and give them all hugs and kisses for us, they are all so precious.

What a strong, brave boy our Perry is. He is hanging on for you and Don and Daisy, Jackie. He is not giving up, just like he didn't give up in the face of that vicious intruder.

Jackie, please try to get some rest tonight. You need to take care of yourself as best you can. I know that you can't just snap your fingers and make the hurt and pain go away, but if you can find a way to put it out of your mind for a short time, anything to distract yourself a little bit.

Cinder and Smoke....
I know for sure now that God is listening to our requests to heal Perry and Daisy. That will be a mighty hard prayer for him not to listen too. Thanks for being such grateful pups and tell dad we think he is doing a great job teaching you both about compassion.

Jackie and Don....
I said from the beginning of this thread that it sounded like Perry interviened to defend his precious Daisy. He is a Hero!! And a very strong determined pup. If anyone can pull through this it is Perry. All that stubborn determination and alpha characteristics are what is going to help him fight to get better. I think if he can see that Daisy is ok, he will keep fighting.

You guys are very special to all of us on Pet Talk and For the Love of Dogs! {{{{{HUGS}}}}} I wish I was there in person to give you both one now. Please know that our prayers will continue as long as needed.

Cinder, Smokey, thank you so much for your beautiful prayer. I know how much your love and kind wishes mean to our dear Jackie. You guys know so well, first hand, the miracles that God is capable of performing. I'm sure he was listening. Thank you dear pups.

Jackie, thank you so much for your update. You must be so emotionally drained and exhausted. Your words of encouragement gave us such comfort and much hope that Daisy, and most especially our hero, our brave, courageous hero Perry will pull through. Just the sight of you and Don, your voices and your touch, brought them so much comfort and peace. Please too, take care of yourselves. You need to be strong for the days and the battle ahead. Please, when you see them, tell Daisy and Perry how much we all love them. Every moment we are keeping you all in our hearts and prayers. Keep up the fight dear Perry. Your Mommy and Daddy love and need you so much. Bless you precious ones. Love to you all from Sandra, Junji, Star and Cody.

Dear Jackie and Don,
I can not get into "for the love of dogs" so I joined
pet talk to find out what has been hapening. I still can not
believe this could happen after all the hard work on the
fence. I keep thinking of poor Perry and Dasiy and the
terrible thing that has happened. I emailed you my
home phone number if you need to talk. Perry sure
sounds like the big hero, but what you tell me of
schnuazers it does not surprise me. Tiffanie and
LuckyMutt send kisses and prayers to Perry and Daisy.
I will be praying for all of you.

Terilyn, I too joined especially to keep up with Daisy & Perry! Wore clicker out trying to get to her , or my, (ANY!), community to find news! It certainly seems that we were correct in believing that Jackie & Don are very special folks! Now, we can only pray for those 2 beautiful babies to heal & once again be home with all that love that is there! I somehow felt that Perry had defended, as best he could, Daisy against that hugh brute! God love him!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dearest sweeties Perry and Daisy - I'm praying for you. I'm so sorry for the terrible pain and trauma you have both suffered. Daisy - keep giving you mom kisses when you can, because she needs to have her heart lifted during this terrible time. Perry - your heroic spirit of love and courage deserves a special honor and an extra healing prayer.

Dearest Jackie and Don - I'm praying for you too. I'm so sorry for all this trauma - not just the injuries to your dear pups, but the fear and hurt this whole incident has brought into your lives.
I pray for strength for you both as you watch over your dear hurt babies.

Jackie and Don -- Logan just let me know about the awful news. Lots of prayers and crossed fingers and paws from TN. How terribly devastating to come home and find them in such terrible shape. I know you are just heartbroken, but please know that our love and God's help are there for you. You are so brave, Jackie, to get on and let us know how they're doing. Keep thinking good thoughts. It's hard when your "heart" dog(s) are hurting, I know, but it will get better. Love to you, Don, Perry and Daisy and lots of prayers. God bless you all.

I talked to Jackie tonight and she said that she was able to see and spend time with her precious furkids today and it put her in a little bit better spirits. They keep inflating Perry's lungs but he has a hole in his neck that the air keeps coming out of and he's having a harder time then Daisy. I asked if there was any word as to when Daisy was coming home and they have to evaluate her leg and see if she needs surgery, and if so, what kind of surgery she needs to fix her leg/shoulder? Jackie and Don are being such good parents to Perry and Miss Daisy. I know that the positive thoughts and prayers and well wishes from all Jackie's and Don's friends, all around the world, have helped keep Perry alive and have given him strength to begin his healing process. It has also helped Miss Daisy stabalize and get her strong enough for surgery.

This all just brings back so many memories of that poor mini poodle, Bella, who was viciouslly attacked by a rotweiller. I just can't get over how scary it is but Jackie is being really brave and positive.

I know that Perry and Daisy are better because of all of us joining our hearts together across states and even countries, but we need to keep it up. They are by no means out of the woods but it sounds like they are better then they were when they first came into the vet. Lets continue to join together and send our cyber love to Jackie, Don, Perry and Miss Daisy.

Lots of love headed towards you, Don, Jackie, Daisy & Perry.

Leslie, Graham & Kersey

P.S. I hope you don't mind the update.

I just hung up with Jackie......what a thrill to hear her voice for the first time (she called me)......but she and Don are encouraged. Their hearts are breaking over this, but they are encouraged that both "kids" will pull through this. They have the will to do it!!! They saw them again tonight, and Miss Daisy ate for them, and Perry tried a few bites too.

Our prayers are working folks. Please keep Don, Jackie, Perry and Miss Daisy in your thoughts and prayers. They will post when they can and I will do my best to keep you all updated.

With much hope and love

I have been out of town all day and upon returning home the first thing I did was turn on the computer to check on Miss Daisy, Perry, Jackie and Don.

Someone once told me that ANYTHING is possible with God. This thought has comforted me so many times and I offer these words to Jackie and Don now.

My heart lept for joy reading Logan's post after talking to Jackie on the phone.

For me, there have been many "fine moments" on Pet Talk, but I feel we are surpassing ourselves this time as we all are able to come together and pray for these precious dogs, Daisy and Perry.

So many beautiful words have been written here - and all from the heart with great love and understanding.

Cinder and Smoke, your brought tears to my eyes.

I know that God is listening to all of us and yes ANYTHING is possible with HIM.

To learn that these two precious babies are still with us gives me comfort and now I will storm heaven asking for a second good night for them both.

Much love to you, Jackie and Don

Logan and Leslie, what a wonderful update to hear you both got to talk to Jackie on the phone. I'm sure it was a real blessing to hear Jackies voice and hear her hope through the phone lines. It still amazes me that miles are no barrier for the human heart to know and Love someone with this thing called a computer and the internet. The first thing (after feeding Grasshopper, of course) to do is check in here on Daisy and Perry. Funny, Grasshopper senses something wrong has happened in the animal kingdom. The morning mist is lifting here in San Diego, and our prayers are with Jackie, and Don especially, on this Father's Day. Our animals are very much our children as well as our friends. Thank you, Carl, for posting my latest wallpaper (Perry).
Our family will be getting together with the two remaining Granddads today, and Jackie, Don, Perry and Daisy will be in our prayers and conversation.
I am still very concerned about the legal and safety issues this scenario brings to light. Negligent owners, Animal Control, and the comfort of your own home are very real issues.
But for now, it's Daisy's and Perry's recovery that is foremost in this group's universal prayer and meditation. Strength in numbers, especially such loving numbers as all who have posted here these past few days!

Please forgive me, Logan and Leslie, for failing to thank you both for your much appreciated updates. And thanks to everyone for posting pics of Daisy and Perry. I have two precious shots of the kids on my refrigerator from Xmas. I have been talking to them all day, telling them to fight on, be strong, give each other love and encouragement, and get well can come home soon. And Rachel, like Hannah, my usually independent minded Star has been extra clingy and kissey too. I told both girls that their doggie buds were struggling to live and needed, as you say, all the "good doggie vibes" they could muster. Can anyone tell us about the vet caring for Perry & Daisy? Is that their regular vet, or an emergency hospital, can family visit on Sunday?, etc.

I have been checking reguarly all day to see if there is any update. I checked Jackie's community For the Love of Dogs and she posted this update earlier this morning.

I just wanted to come in and tell all of our dear friends thank you so much for your prayers and love. I truly believe this is what is helping them to recover.
As Logan and Colleen said Daisy is quite alert, she ate from my hand like a little piggy, she has puncture wounds which they are letting drain, still don't know if they will have to operate on her leg.

Perry is really holding his own, he has trouble breathing, but the Vet is somewhat encouraged by one lung inflated and the other he is draining the fluids. He has swelling around his neck and head. The pitbull got him around the throat. He was a brave little dog, he took the brunt of everything to save his sister so she could run and hide in her doghouse.

We get to visit them morning and night. The Vet has been really good giving us the news and letting us stay with them as long as we want. Daisy absolutely loves our Grandson, Chris and when he came in she covered him in kisses.

We are hopeful and all I can think of is getting them home. We haven't seen the pitbulls next door since the incident, I don't know if they are in the house or if they hid them somewhere. We have a big hole in our fence, which we will have to fix because they could come back in and attack us I guess. Buff, you are right Don wanted to get his gun and shoot him, but the only thing that would happen is that he would go to jail. It wouldn't help our pups, and it's not the dogs fault, it's the people.

Just wanted to say so far I can't put the picture of the day in the front page, I will come back this afternoon and try again. Don't know yet how this upgrade has effected the community.

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes, you don't know how much they mean to us. I'm having trouble sleeping so, came on here to keep occupied.
Love you all
Jackie and Don Miss Daisy and Perry

Jackie, before you have it fixed, please take a picture of that fence from the front and the back if you can. Also take pictures of Perry and Daisy in the hospital. All this is evidence which you might need. It doesn't commit you to any follow through but if you do decide to proceed with whatever, I want you to be thoroughly prepared.

Of course the main concern is that Perry and Daisy get better and ...Thank you, Lord... it seems our prayers are being answered.

Thank you for the updates!!! I'm so glad to hear that both dogs are doing better. If the doctor is encouraged, then I am EXSTATIC!! I would think that if he has made it this long then he is very nearly over the hump....I'm thinking positively here. Every minute that God lets him live, the more likely he is to survive. Our vet says that it's always the first 48 hours that are most critical and if the animal survives that, then their chances increase dramatically. I hope that the holes in Perry's lungs heal quickly and the swelling goes down on his neck.

Dear Daisy and Perry,

The Kendalls continue to pray REALLY hard for your recovery. I added my own special prayer at church today! Keep up the good work and keep fighting so that Mom and Dad can take you home really soon!

Here is a update on Jackie's community from her daughter in law.

Hi everyone,

I want to give you a update of the visit this morning. Perry was much more alert and ate like crazy. He would have ate the whole bowl if we let him but didn't want to feed him to much. It was a great site to see him eat. The swelling in his throat and neck has gone down quite a bit. He held his head up almost the whole time we were their then became tired and laid his head down on Dons arm. Miss Daisy was very alert. She was really excited to see everyone. Didn't want to eat right then. Jackie is going to bring some of her own food this afternoon. Her wonderful personality was their which was nice to see. Both of their temps were normal which means so far no infections are setting in. The vets and staff have been great . Perry was cleaned up a bit which was nice. His legs still had the blood on them yesterday.

Well I better run going back to the vet to visit our little angles. I will keep in touch.
Our son Chirs is graduating tomorrow and I will follow up tomorrow night.

Thanks agian,

Colleen and Family

No temperatures - no infections - that information right there says so much about their condition as well as their having an appetite.

Thank you for the update.

I know this isn't a very nice thing to ask, but after reading all this I can't help but wonder how much all this work is going to cost? Are Jackie and Don going to be ok? Will there be a way for people to help donate funds to help them?

I am just sick reading these posts. I have checked in at least five times today and am so happy to hear the news get better and better.

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys also! Please give those brave pups an extra pet for me. :)

I'm new to Pet Talk, had only just joined when this happened. I found Pet Talk by way of Jackie's site. When Jackie's site was down for updating on Saturday, I was beside myself with worry about the four of them until I remembered - Pet Talk!!! I immediately logged on and have been keeping up with the news. Thank you everyone for the updates and the outpouring of LOVE for Perry, Daisy, Jackie, and Don!

God is SO GOOD!!!!!

Just wanted to bring this fwd--I think it's a very valid point--should we start a "fund" to help cover vet costs?

I have been out all evening. I received the same email Carl did and a second one with pictures a few minutes ago. Here are copies of both of Jackie's emails. I'm going to attempt to post the pictures shortly, but will probably do a second topic so they won't take so long to load.

First message:

Hi Logan, GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS you will never believe this. They released Daisy today, we have pain pills to give her, pain patch on her and antibiotics for her. I couldn't believe it~ The Vet said she is ready to go home, but he will have to reevaluate her shoulder for surgary or not. Perry has to stay for a while but is doing really good. I'm going to send you some pictures in a while that you could put on the Pettalk if you want to, I don't know how to do it. LOL Old and Dumb.lol
I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate what you and Carl were going to do, but it looks like we will be O.K. I don't think it will be necessary as our youngest Daughter Lorie paid 1,000 of the bill and we can easily take care of the rest as Frank and Colleen and Sharon our oldest want to help too. Please let everyone know how much we appreciate what they were going to do and if they want to do something perhaps they could make a donation to someplace like "Best Friends"
Oh Logan I am so excited, please tell everybody and Perry looked so good, he was standing up and the swelling was down and he looked so much stronger.
Carl, you are just the best man, Maggie is so very lucky. I got Don to join PetTalk too, at some point he wants to come in to both places and say thanks for the wonderful messages.
I will be spending a lot of time caring for Daisy now, but I think she will be by my computer again before long while I type. lol
Love you all
Jackie and Don

Second message, after midnight tonight:

This will be short but sweet. lol Daisy came home today and I'm a little nervous as she has some raw wounds and still in pain with her shoulder and leg. But she has been sleeping a lot.
Perry is still in the hospital but he is really doing well too. He was standing strong today and breathing better.
I am sending a few pictures we took. I'm sorry it is so late for you, everyone just left.
We got a wonderful Fathers Day present from our kids, they paid the complete Vet bill to date, we didn't want them to but they insisted. Guess we were pretty good to them when they were little. LOL
I'm sending you the pictures because I don't know how to post them. lol
Have a good night
Love
Jackie and Don

I was so glad to hear the latest progress reports after getting home from Dad's day with family. And so glad to read someone else's concerns over safety and expenses.
I did email one local news station AND the Mayor's office yesterday. My email subject was "Pitbull attack in San Diego." My take is that there should be legal ramifications beyond "tresspassing", and that irresponsible people should not have dogs, especially potentially dangerous ones. We all know if a child had been attacked, the media and the City would have been all over it!! Well, just as humans who attack animals are considered potential abusers, this scenario also fits the bill as far as I am concerned.
So, with my limited knowledge of how to send links correctly, if anyone is interested, here is another way to help where there is strength in numbers:
In San Diego, CBS News is Channel 8: www.kfmb.com (this is the only one I sent the story and my concerns to); ABC is Channel 10: www.thesandiegochannel.com; NBC is Channel 7/39: www.nbcsandiego.com; Fox is Channel 6:www.fox6.com.
The San Diego Union/Tribune is www.signonsandiego.com and the City Gov't page is www.sannet.com.
There are way too many people that think they're beyond any responsibility to their community and neighbors.

Oh, this is the most wonderful news!!!:):):) I spoke for quite a while with Jackie yesterday afternoon before heading off to the hospital. She was actually preparing a homemade meal for Daisy as our little girl was gaining some of her ole spunk back and was turning her nose up at that nasty "hospital food!":D Jackie was so STRONG, and upbeat and cautiously optimistic about their recovery. What an amazing woman! I wanted to cry and instead we had a lovely conversation full of laughter and hope! I can't believe the wonderful news I awoke too. Jackie did mention that she would be taking pics if allowed! How wonderful to see their beautiful faces. Their battered bodies are on the mend and I know that Daisy's best medicine was coming home to Mom, Dad and the "big bed!" Hopefully, Perry will be following his sister's lead and be back with his best friend, his Dad, very soon! I am so thrilled for you Jackie and Don! What a wonderful way to start the day, hearing such terrific news! What a blessing! What a happy Father's Day, what a MIRACLE!! All my love to you Jackie, Don, Daisy and Perry!!

This is wonderful news....praise the Lord! Seeing Perry standing was so encouraging and Daisy being able to come home to her Mommy....is just the greatest. And Sandra, you are so right..being home will be her best medicine. Just two days ago things were looking pretty bleak, but now there is hope for a good recovery. It won't be easy and both dogs probably have considerable pain and weakness, but with the loving care they are going to have, the medical resources available, time and God's love, they CAN RECOVER. Life may never be the same but it will be good for them and for Jackie and Don. And our prayers will continue. Prayers for continued recovery, prayers for freedom from pain...and prayers of gratitude for this miracle.

Oh my! I was gone away from Pet Talk for a weekend and I missed so much. I am glad to read that the precious ones are doing better and that Daisey is home already. I am certain that Don and Jackie will take great care of lil Daisey and speed her up on her road to recovery.

Certainely she misses her brave brother, Perry. But he is a strong one and will recover soon, God willing and be back home with his dear family in no time!

Jackie and Don, I can not tell you how sad and heart broken I am. Just this weekend I saw a black Schnauzer and thought of your family. Reading the post was the most difficult thing I have had to do in a very long time. I had to shut the door to my office and cried my eyes out. I can not begin to imagine how much pain youtwo are going through. Daisey and Perry are very lucky to have you. I feel like something horrible has happened to my own Draker. I love the schnauzers like they were my very own dogs. I am sure everyone at Pet Talk does.

Please know that they will be in my prayers and thoughts.

This has been quite an emotional morning for me. I am so happy that Miss Daisy is home getting pampered by her mom and dad, but I am just so heart-sick at the pictures I saw of them. You can put me on the list of people who want to "take care of" the pits for you. Dogs like that, although it was entirely the owners' faults for not socializating or training them, have no right being alive. They are a threat to society and I have such anger towards them and their stupid owners. I care about Jackie, Don, Perry and Daisy so much and it feels almost like one of my family members were assulted needlessly. I am just sickned.

Jackie, please kiss that sweet Daisy for me. Tell her that the pain will soon be over with and she'll be feeling better in no time with your tender loving care.

Prayers are still being sent to Jackie, Don, Perry & Daisy. May you all continue to improve.

(I'm sure Cinder and Smoke's prayers really got the Big Guy's attention though). I will continue prayers for Perry and Daisy until they are both home and all well. I knew the dogs before I ever found Pet Talk. I remember their Dog of the Day pictures. I was checking out the Pets of the Day long before I even knew about Pet Talk. I'm so blessed to have found both. Daisy, your sweet self will bring much joy and comfort to your parents I'm sure. Sir Perry will be home soon to keep you company. Good news, indeed.:)

I think I have some very good news. Don saw Perry today and talked to Dr. Valentine (our other Vet) he explained a little more what happened, he said the Pitbull must have had him by the throat and chest and shook him and clamped on and it caused his heart to float because his lungs were deflated.

NOW THE GOOD NEWS
Dr. Valentine ( he is so kind, he has a perfect name) told Don Perry was doing well and just maybe he could come home tomorrow. :) :D He told Don you really love that dog don't you? Don said of course I do. He said well I was watching you through the one way window combing him and talking and loving him.
Then they put Perry on the table and Don said he took about a 5 minute pee and ate like a horse.

Daisy is doing well at home, she wouldn't eat for a while, but tonight she ate really good. She don't like taking her medicine and not good at drinking water so I dip my finger in the water a million times and she licks it. What we won't do for our pups. lol
It makes me sad to see her limp so bad, but the alternative is worse. Dr. Valentine said not to put her in the big bed, in case she fell, but this afternoon she and I spent a few hours on the big bed since I could watch her and she loved it. She def don't like the megaphone she has to wear. She is back to her independent self, no kisses for me, but plenty for our Grandson, Chris. lol

We know we love our pets, but we really don't know it until something threatens their life. I have to say I felt guilty for what happened to them, I was always telling Daisy don't worry, I will never let anything happen to you when we were in bed. We never even took them for walks in the Neighborhood for fear of them being attacked, let alone attacked in their own yard.
Please, please never take anything for granted, be aware, make sure your pet is safe and show them all the love you can give.
Again thank you all so much for your love and devotion.

Jackie and Don -- What wonderful news that Daisy is home and Perry is getting close to that. I'm so happy for you!! It's awful to see your furchildren in the hospital and to wonder what you could have done differently to keep them safe, but with other people around that don't care about their animals as much as Pet Talkers do, it's hard.

Will keep prayers going and fingers and paws crossed that they both make full recoveries and are with you for years to come.

Wish the folks with the Pitbulls were at least nice enough to offer to help with the bills, but since they're in subsidized housing, suspect they can't afford their own dogs really, let alone the consequences of their dogs' actions. Maybe some prayers for those folks would be useful, too. Forgiveness is not always easy, but is necessary for peace and a right life.

Hope to see more good news in the next day or two. Go Perry and Daisy!!

Kohala, thanks so much, us Navy people have to stick together.
The interview yesterday was with KUSI and the interviewer said the guy next door was pretty nice, (never has asked about our dogs) said he was going to pay Vet bills(his girlfriend is on section 8 and he lives with her with two kids and three pitbulls)
said he was going to fix the fence (our son fixed it for us) would not give us the name of the owner of the house, we went through the county records. etc. etc. The interviewer sounded like he was going to take care of all this, I was not very happy with what was said, made him sound like a responsible person which he is not.
Just wanted to say Perry is home and he slept right by my bed.
I think he did well, moaned a little, sat up sometimes, but slept well, he really is a fighter. When he came in the house the first thing he did was jump up on Don's rocker before we could stop him. We can still feel a little air around his neck, but I think it will take time. He is eating well, pooping and peeing. lol He is a little strange, has to get used to everything again and I think he misses Daisy.
I called about Daisy about 4:00 and they said she is doing well.
Her temperature is now normal, will not eat, but that is to be expected, we will get to go see her this morning.
Thank you all again, we hope to continue having good news from now on and I hope to have a good nights sleep soon. lol

Jackie,

Great news! Glad that Perry is slowly but surely going to get better. When does Daisy come home?

When I read that your neighbor was going to pay the bills and fix the fence, I really doubted his sincerity. I think it was all for the camera. If he lives wih his girlfriend and she is on section 8, how can he afford to pay?

Hang in their Jackie... We Love you! Hopefully knowing we are behind you will help you have more strength to get through this. And prayers are still unceasing! When you look at Perry, you are looking at one of God's miracles! Try to focus on that now and not the lies that the neighbor is portraying.

Jackie, did you or any of your family tape that TV segment? The part where the guy said he would pay for your vet bills may come in handy if you have to go to court on this. Strange he could say that to a camera and never come over to say it to YOU!!!

I also wonder which of the two actually owns the pit bulls...him or her? I wonder who is on the lease? Are these dogs licensed...have all their shots?

I agree with Souraya, this sounds like a ploy to me. The interviewer sounds like he is a little bit bias to the other owner. I hope that our letter and others that are being written will have an effect.

I'm sooooooo glad that Perry is home. He probably will be a little weird for awhile...that was an incredibly traumatic thing he went through and contrary to what most people say, I believe that dogs have a really long memory about things like that. I'm sure with all of yours and Don's love Perry will come through with flying colors. I'm also encouraged by Daisy's news...it sounds like she is also on the road to recovery.

Keep us posted.

All I can say is I feel like throwing up. I haven't been able to keep up with Pet Talk much lately so I just read this whole thread. I am absolutely heartbroken. Jackie and Don, I admire your strength and courage to get your dogs through this. I am so glad they are going to be okay. I hope each day takes away more and more of their pain and erases the painful memories. They truly are little miracle dogs. Bless sweet Perry for taking care of his sister.

Jackie, What wonderful news that Perry is home.
Please know that you and Don and Daisy and Perry and your family have not been far from my thoughts.
I only wish I could visit you when I am so close the weekend. I will be in Phoenix AZ.
Love and God Bless
