I always had one litter box for my 2 cats. This year, Cosmo was diagnosed with kidney disease & for some reason (I don't know why), I bought another litter box, so I had 2.

Both cats use both boxes. However, I want to go back to 1 litter box because I just don't have room for 2.

Do you think they'll adjust okay to using 1 litter box?

I took 1 away and it used to sit on a small area rug. I put that area rug in my laundry basket to wash and I found Cosmo tyring to go into the laundry basket. I'm thinking he thought his litter box was there.

But what do you all think? Do you think they'll be okay going to back to 1 litter box?

Do you scoop once per day or twice?

The recommendation is, one box per cat, if you scoop once per day. (Up to 3 cats. After 3 cats, you n eed a box per cat plus one extra box..) So if you have 2 cats and go down to one box, you need to scoop morning and evening.

And as you already discovered, don't leave anything around to remind them of the missing box!

I'm just not sure if they can do this. I have never removed a box.

I always had two boxes (have two cats) but maybe a year or so ago I bought one of the *under the bed* plastic storage containers and it is oblong. I took away the two boxes and put that it their place. They never knew the difference because it was in the same location. :) Do you have room for one of those kind of boxes?
