The Czech word, kočka is similar to Polish and Russian. A kitten is a kočička (the č is pronounced like the sound "tch" - think "catch" in English). You got it - I'm Czech, Polish and Ukrainian.

And the danish is.... kat. :) As for a kitten, it's killing. Foreign people who come and live in Denmark can get quite mixed up with al these new words - killing = kitten, kylling = chicken and kęlling = bitch. Better learn those straight away! :eek:

German "Katze" is the generic word but a boycat would be called Kater ;)

He he, I forgot that one! A male cat is also "KATER" in Dutch!!!
And in fact, the word "POES" is only used for females, and also "KATTIN" :)

[QUOTE=sumbirdy]Italian
gatto
QUOTE]
depends on whether it is male female singular or plural. There is also a different word for kitty.

Male singular = gatto - pronounced - gat toh
male plural = gatti - pronounced - gat ty
female singular = gatta - pronounced - gat tah
female plural = gatte - pronounced - gat tay

Kitty male = micio - pronounced - meech oh
kitty female = micia - pronounced - meech ah

and these refer to cats not kittens.

Many differences in italian to explain one thing. LOL
And I am only learning yet. EEK Help

Great thread BTW...what a neat idea.
