Doggie Dreams

My st. bernard has these nightmares in the middle of the night where she cries all the time and sometimes shakes. I have to wake her up to stop the crying. I wonder what she dreams about to make her cry and shake??

my dane boy has similar dreams..he actually sounds like a zebra too lol..its cute...nothing to worry about though ;)

How long have you had her? Where did you get her from?

My Shepherd had nightmares for over a year after i got him. He was 10 and had been abused and neglected. The bad dreams slowly faded away. Every now and then though he would have a dream where he was chasing something and his bark would sound like a whimper and he would tremble. One time he actually was able to produce a bark in his sleep and he woke himself up. lol.

We all have bad dreams now and then... and we have no idea where they come from. *shrug*

...some people still debate wether dogs even dream at all and would think we're silly for even discussing this.

In Greyhoundland, we call it "chasing the bunny" ;) It's actually quite cute, and I don't think it comes from abuse. Many dogs dream and greys, especially, have a funny way of doing it. They'll twitch their legs, thump their tails, snarl their teeth, and, like a poster mentioned before, they'll even wake themselves up with their own whimper. It gives a gray area between animals and cognitive thinking, but it does make me wonder what they're doing in their sleep!

All 4 of mine dream- feet flying, growling, with "bif bif bif" noises- .. Its so funny to hear this low growl and barking out of dogs that do not do this otherwise when they awake.
I have noticed it is more triggered if they saw a wild animal earlier in the day. Or especially the days following lure coursing events etc. And the girls do it more than the male dogs.
You might want to take a look if she is seeing other dogs during the day off your property. Then the worry shows up in her dreams. I know the first time Hottie saw a bear on the deck, that night he bolted up out a sound sleep and a big " WOOF!"..He also can't really move that fast to get up if he were awake. It must have been a really intense dream.

How cute. I agree, we need pics!

Belle dreams, but she doesn't get too loud, just a few noises here and there and she twitches and moves her legs sometimes.

I don't think it's anything to worry about. We all have dreams, and some of us move and cry in our dreams too.

Sometimes when dogs dream they think of their day. Try to make her day As happy as can be and maybe the crying and nightmares may stop
