Finally I got some time to get online for a bit! I've been busy. I got our junk room....err...spare room cleaned out and moved the kittens there so they could bobble any time they wanted to. I felt bad that they had to spend so much time in a cage. I borrowed the biggest dog cage I could get, but with growing kittens, a larger litter pan, food/water bowls, toys, and hot water bottle there just wasn't much room left to play in. Plus I figured they might bulk up some if they could get more muscles built up. They aren't gaining weight like I'd prefer to see, however seem energetic, playful, bright eyed and bushy tailed. lol
The spare room isn't heated, but I do have several places the kittens can snuggle in, and I brought up one of my regular carriers and filled it generously with a warm blankie and they still have the hot water bottle in there. So far they seem to stay warm enough, especially when they do their 'kitten pile' thing. lol
Based on what I was told about their age when I got them, they should be about 8 weeks old tomorrow, what is the average weight of an 8 week old kitten?? Pooky & Bear were over 2 1/2 lbs at that age, but they were big for their ages also. I'm also suspecting that these kittens may have actually been more like 2 weeks old when I got them, not 3 weeks, so they may be 7 weeks old, not 8, in which case (again comparing them to Pooky & Bear) Sabrina would be the only one the proper weight range with Josh close behind. I'm sure I'm worrying too much over this, and maybe they aren't going to be nearly as big as my two were, but I can't help but worry about them.
I'm currently emailing with a coworkers neighbor who might take the two girls, but still no leads for Josh yet.
Sabrina - now weighs 1 lb 8 1/2 oz, not much of a gain from last weigh in (11/7) but some anyways. She's getting long legs! She's gonna be a tall kitty! She can really run and jump now! wow!
Sassy - is back up to her previous (before the not wanting to eat thing) weight of 1 lb 2 1/4 oz, but hasn't gotten past that yet. She's so thin looking to me, but maybe I'm just used to fat kitties? She now seems to be balking at drinking water from her dish, and prefers to suck it off the food (I add water to all their food). She isn't exactly dehydrated, but I'd really prefer she learn to drink water from the regular bowl. If this is any indication, she's gonna be one fussy kitty when she grows up! She still occasionally suckles on Josh, but I honestly think it's because she's thirsty, gross I know, but that's my guess. She plays well, and loves the new feather toy I got her, she pounces on it, grabs it in her mouth, and does this little kitten growling like she's got some great prey! She drags it all over the room if you try to take it away, and will even hiss this little tiny hiss if you do manage to get it from her. HAHAHA She definately a tortie!
Everyone's favorite.....Josh! Weighs in at 1 lb 6 1/4 oz. He's a fat looking little kitty! Far cry from the skinny little guy he was. His belly is so big he sorta waddles when he runs, and eats like a little pig! There may be hope for Sassy yet if he's any indication. Even though his wee wee still seems way too small of an opening, it's no longer swollen and inflamed looking, and he seems to use his litterpan okay, plus he's not wetting himself anymore. His butt has been dry for over a week now! yay! Loves to run up onto my feet when I go in the room, looks up at me and meows. Can we all say AWWWWWW! lol
