Hello all,

I know I rarely come around here anymore, but I feel like a lot of PTers I used to talk to on here knew Lady well, and coming here seems better than talking to people who barely knew her.
Last Saturday, 10/28, we had to put Lady to sleep. She was not in good shape at all - she could barely get up from bad arthritis that would only worsen in the winter, along with other issues that had a lesser influence in the decision. Everyone agreed it was the right thing to do.
I was not there, but my dad and grandparents were. My dad came home in tears and described to me how it happened. Lady was his whole life, he hasn't really been the same since she passed. Obviously it is justified, it's just sad to see him so empty looking.
When they put her down, it only took a little bit to stop her heart. So we knew it was her time to go. As all of you already know, losing a member of your family, whether human or pet, is one of the toughest things to go through. Lady, through her loving nature and friendliness towards everyone, connected our family in such a way. She was truly special to us, as all of your pets are special to you and your families. When my dad took her out of the house and to the vet, and I said my last goodbye to her, she didn't look like the dog I used to post pictures of... she looked sad, and in pain. Even Sally knew what was going on. She normally didn't get along with Lady... but that day, she jumped up onto the bed and cuddled next to her and they fell asleep together. So even though it was hard to do, probably the hardest thing my dad ever had to do, we couldn't let her feel anymore pain; it just wasn't right to do to a dog that gave us endless amounts of love.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Lady, she was our 12-year-old German Shepherd.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Oh Britt, I am so sorry about the loss of lady. :( She had a good life, though, and is now romping again at the RB in a younger, stronger body. You will be together again one day.

I sure wish your return to Pet Talk wasn't with such sad news. (I do think of you often)

Take care my friend. {{{{{HUGS}}}}

I'm glad you came back to tell us about Lady. What a sad occasion
to lose a part of your family like that. :( It really is the saddest things in
the world to see a once young & vibrant dog, grow old & infirm. :( I'm
sure she will be missed by all your family. Rest In Peace Lady.

Rest in Peace, sweet Lady. You were so well loved here on earth, and I am sure you are having a good romp up there at the Rainbow Bridge. Say hello especially to my Sheba girl - she's a German Shepherd mix, but she's mostly black with tan legs and silly tan spots for eyebrows. She's been there a good long time, so she'll know where the good treats are hidden, where the best napping spots are, and which animals enjoy being herded, too.

Welcome back Britt, even if it was for the sad occasions of Lady's and Corinna's journey to the Rainbow Bridge.

She is absolutely gorgeous. I'm so sorry. I know all too well the pain. It's been 6 months since my Sherry's been gone and I hurt just the same. I, too, had to put her to rest. I couldn't stand seeing her go, but I couldn't stand seeing her suffer. It's like your heart playing tug-o-war, but you know what you have to do. I don't have any more dogs now. I think Sherry hit me the hardest because I was the caregiver for her. She was handicapped during the last couple of years of her life and I was basically her legs. I would pick her up when she wanted to get up. For a while, once she was up, she could walk, but then she started to fall alot. After that, I would support her back end with a sling. I took her to work with me so she was never alone. Got her acupuncture once a week, did Reiki, massage, etc.. I was needed 95% of the day by her. Once she was gone, I had nothing to do. I couldn't believe the empty time. I finally lost her to liver cancer. She was a Shepherd/Collie. I didn't get any more dogs, but I dove more into my rescues and adoptions and now I basically foster and babysit. Not ready for permanency yet. But at least I'm needed at times. I'll keep you and Lady in my prayers. She's probably playing frisbee with my Sherry. They can both run again.

Thank you everyone for your condolences, they are well appreciated. It's very comforting to know I can always come here for support and concern.

Angelchampy - Sherry must have been very lucky to have such a loving person to be around her in her time of need, and I'm sure she knows that. :)

The other furkids are all fine, except we have four cats now instead of three. But I'll introduce everyone to Bandit, our newest kitty, soon enough!

Britt, I saw your name and my heart jumped because I was so excited to see you posting, but then I realized where I was and I am so sad for you and your family. :( Thank you for letting us know about Lady so that we can include her, and all of you, in our prayers.

It has been a tragic year for our family, as well as many others, so I think we can all completely understand the sadness your family is experiencing right now.

Rest in peace, sweet Lady.

I am so sorry about your pretty girl. She lived a good, long life and you were a great family to her. I remember your girl and you, and I hope every day gets a little easier.

I have also gone threw a loss with my Graham, and I can understand how bad it hurts. Take care and give the other critters a hug for me.

Thank you again everyone.

Anna and Leslie, I'd read about both Angus and Graham awhile ago and was in total disbelief, because I'd felt like through the pictures and stories I'd come to know them as if I'd met them. They were both amazing dogs.
