My little Moxie Moo isn't feeling well. First she had bloody stool for a day or so and the vet said it was probably from the dewormer, then on Tuesday night it turned into horrible gas and soft stool so I took in a fecal sample Thursday and the vet left a message that it was negative. I guess for parasites but not sure. Well Friday I noticed her inner eyelids stay up when she gets tired and she gets tired quickly. Tonight the soft stool has turned into runny BMs and the smell is awful.

She's eating like a horse but just turns around and poops it out immediately. I don't think she is growing at all. She's drinking a lot and I've noticed today she feels warm. She is still playing like crazy but wears out fast.

I will call the vet in the morning and insist they see her ASAP. I think this goes way beyond the effects of a dewormer she was given two weeks ago.

Here are a few pictures from Thursday morning playing in the kitchen.

Jazz was teaching her the art of stretching. Cat yoga I guess.

Please send her some good healing vibes and wishes. I sure hope she is okay.

Lori, it sounds like either Coccidia or Giardia. I would demand they treat those. She needs to start a course of at least Albon, if not something stronger! If you aren't satisfied with your vet's action, take her elsewhere. Good luck!

Kim, I know you said it sounded like Coccidia last week and I was hoping that was what the vet checked for with the fecal sample I took in but I'm not sure. That was the day I went to pick up Decker and his momma and it was a bit crazy. I told one girl what Moxie's symptoms were but another girl took the actual sample and then later called and left a message saying it was negative and to bring her in if she was still having problems by the first of the week. I should have called back and asked negative for what exactly.

Now I'm worried that she may be spreading it to Decker. :( She was also out around my guys from Saturday to Thursday last week so I'm praying they didn't catch anything.

Poor little girl. She's so tiny and so sweet. I just can't stand to see her feeling poorly.

Lori, I'm so sorry to hear that Moxie is sick.:( Before I saw Kim's post, I also thought that it could be coccidia. My Starr had a very bad case of it and finally recovered when he was with me and away from other kittens because they kept reinfecting each other. I hope that whatever is wrong with her that it can be easily treated and that she'll feel better soon. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts are being sent her way. Please take care.

If it is coccidia you might want to buy some of those disposable aluminum tins and just use each one for one day and then throw it away. This way the litterbox will be kept very clean and free from the coccidia.;)

Oh sweet widdle Moxie, how I pray that it isn't that nasty Coccidia and just a bit of an upset tummy.

Prayers on the way for you sweetie and ((((((HUGS)))))) for your meowmie as I know how worried she must be.

UPDATE:
The vet couldn't find anything in the fecal exam but is treating it as Coccidia. She feels pretty certain that is it. Decker has it now too. :(

Poor little Moxie. Her rear end is so sore today and she cries when she goes. She has gained a half pound in the past two weeks which the vet said was good but not as much as a healthier kitten would gain.

She and Decker are now on Albon plus I'm suppose to feed them plain fat free yogurt. The vet said she would call me Wed. to see how they were doing and to call immediately if they got worse.

Oh poor little Moxie, and Decker too. :( I hope the treatment will help get rid of it.

Occasionally, Fister had a bit of blood in his stool and my vet recommended to feed him Hills W/D along with S/D. At the time, I had been giving him C/D. After he changed his diet, there's been no problems. :)

Good luck and kisses to them both.

Poor little kitties........I hope they are starting to feel better.

(I'd cry too, if my rear was that sore)

Lori, I know what you are going through....I went through this with Gracie and Gabriel....healthy but not gaining, diarrhea, bloody stool, tired, etc....I tried the Albon and plain yogurt but I had the best luck with changing them over to baby food (chicken or beef) and using a product called Pecticillin. It is a combination of Kaolin, which increases the bulk of the stool and slows the passage and pectin which provides a protective coating to the intestinal tract. If the Albon fails and you would like to try the pecticillin send me a PM and I will get some out to you.

In the meantime I sure hope little Moxie Moo and Decker feel better really soon...I too would hate to have a sore back end like MM has.

Poor Moxie Moo and Decker. My Penny also had a terrible case of coccidia. It was so sad to watch. I kept her in a large carrier and like KAK I used the disposable tins to toss out. She stunk SO bad and her little behind was red and sore. I put vaseline (a thin layer) on it to help ease the pain. She used Albon and yogurt as well.
I hope they get better soon, It hurts us just as bad to see them hurt. :( I am sorry they and you have to go through this. *HUGS* Katie and kitties

Lori, I'm sorry to hear that it's probably coccidia and that both Moxie and Decker have it.:( I hope that the Albon will work. Sometimes you have to give it to them for a longer period of time if it's a more resistant strain. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts are being sent your way.

Do you think that the other two kittens might also have this? Has Richard asked his co-worker about them? I sure hope that they don't have it too.

Shortly after I first got Cole, his stools got soft with some blood in them. A fecal exam at the vet's showed just the SLIGHTEST elevation of some bacteria - they weren't even going to med him unless, of course, he had symptoms - which he did.

Within two days, the problem was gone - total days on meds, 5. And no problem since!

I hope your Moxie Moo and her baby bro Decker feel better in no time!

Did you try the vaseline tick on poor Moxie?

HUGS and prayers for fast healing!

He talked to her today and she said they are fine so far. I really hope they don't have it.

I am just about to cry. Poor Moxie is basically dripping diarrhea constantly. It's been like this ever since we got back from the vet so I'm guessing having her temp taken made things worse. I've had to confine her to the cage by herself and she cries to get out but then just wants to drag her bottom on the floor when she gets out. I just got her settled in for the night and I hope she will be okay. So far Decker is having runny diarrhea but is still very active and isn't having any dripping issues. Hopefully he won't get to that point. I don't know how I'm ever going to keep everything clean and disinfected.

If Moxie is still like this in the morning I'm going to call the vet and see if they will keep her for 24 hours or so. I would feel better having them watching her and caring for her.

Poor Moxie! Do you think the Vaseline might help? Like severe diaper rash...it might soothe her a bit.

HUGS to the poor sick babies!

Lori, I'm so sorry to hear that baby Moxie is so sick.:( It sounds like she has a severe case and I'd also be calling the vet tomorrow. She may also need to have some sub-q fluids so she doesn't become dehydrated. Lots more prayers and positive thoughts are being sent your way.

Thanks.

This morning she seems better. She only has one bm in her litterbox last night so hopefully her bum got a break except for the drips and oozes. So far she has eaten some food and is now playing like a monkey with Decker who is thrilled to have her out of the cage again. She keeps dragging her rear on the towels on the floor but nothing is coming out right now.

I finally found the vaseline this morning. It was in the garage where we had to use it on a seal on the pool pump. That stuff sure is multipurpose.

Good to hear she is improving...

Reminds me of a small book I had, which had two parts - The Worst Part of Being Alone, and the Best Part.

One of the Best was: "Only YOU know who's been in the vaseline - and why!" :D
