since last Feb. Gracie and i have kind of faded away from the dog show world. i've been far too depressed and shown little interest in it. today was my first day off and i decided i was going to groom dogs. keep in mind i havn't gotten out the grooming table, show leads, or bait in months. i bathed Beanie and got him all dried off and groomed. when Gracie was done with her bath she was excited because she noticed she was getting on the grooming table. the table means DOG SHOWS and Gracie LOVES dog shows! after grooming Gracie for a little over an hour i started putting all my brushes and stuff away. i dropped Gracie's show lead and when i picked it up i looked at Gracie. Gracie looked back and stomped her paws as if she wanted the lead on so bad she couldn't hold still. i put it on her and put on my running shoes. for the first time in months Gracie and i did our down and back, stacked, free baited, etc. when i put Gracie away my dad came into my bedroom. he looked at me and said "you need to do this. your mom and i were watching you through the window and saw how much you love this and how much you miss it." i'm not one to show my feelings but for some reason i started to cry. i do miss showing dogs. i miss being in the ring, i miss grooming, i miss the trips, the hotels, all the handlers and judges. :(

since i won't be getting my dane until the next litter which is in about 2 yrs my parents want me to get another sibe to show. i'm not sure what i'm doing yet. i'm not going to go run out and get another sibe. i'm showing some dogs for my mentor in AL in Nov. i need to talk to her and see how much time Charlie is going to take before i go making any big movements.

Thanks for letting me ramble. :o

Obviously Gracie loves it too. Why not show her for fun while you're waiting two years for your dream puppy? I know you said she's too tall to show in competition, but aren't there some other shows you could do with her - like obedience, or something? Maybe check if a local dog club or humane society or rescue or something would like to have someone to demo this type of work. Gracie deserves a chance to do something she loves, too. ;)

i haven't thought about showing the bluetick. he is UKC registered. i have friends that could help me get into UKC. his sire is a UKC Champion. i might look into showing him until the dane pup is born.

i could show Gracie in obediance or rally. i know a local trainer that could help me get into that part of the dog show world.

Oh my, girl, you gotta stop thinking all your threads are rambles and pointless. Your threads are just as important as others and aren't pointless :).

Going back to the topic - that's great! I'm really happy you got back into the spirit. It would be great to see the outcome.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh I know what you mean about showing. Honestly- the dogs know when the bath starts, and if I grab my show bag, they head for the car dancing alllllllllll around... I trained my two I am showing when they had a toy in the mouth etc that I would clap and say "YEAAAAAAAAAAA" and when they hear clapping they just take off in a strutful stride like look how pretty I am. I also give cookies with the word " okay". The reason as you know is the judge will say " okay one time around please" and as sooooooon as they hear "okay" they glance at the judge with excitement... lol..
Go to my website under " our dogs" and look at the expression on the judges face at my boys first major at the tender age of 10 months old... They were judging the terrier group in the ring next to us, and every time they clapped and it was his turn to go, he just showed himself off for the ham he is!

Gracie was disqualified at the IKC shows in Chicago last feb. she's 1 1/2in. over the breed standard. i was heartbroken the whole weekend but had good spirits because i had a dane puppy at home waiting to turn 6 months to get into the ring. the breeder took him the day after i got back from the IKC shows. lots of things have kept me from getting back to showing. hopefully soon this little coonhound puppy in my lap will be good enough to show. ;)

P.S. Charlie is home! i'll post pics soon.
