Does your pet alert you to danger?

It gets dark very soon here during fall, winter and spring. I love to walk - especially later to wind down.

My Mom is very overprotective and never used to let me walk alone. Until I got my dogs. There have been a few people on walks that have startled me, followed me, or just plain be creepy.

The dogs usually sense when I'm nervous and they will lower their heads and send a warning growl to the person walking by. During the day, I don't encourage this - but when I'm by myself, I let them trust their instincts.

Jenny barks at them if someone gets really angry at me.

Oh, the other day, there was this really wierd old guy on the path and he was *looking at certain parts of me, that is the ONLY time I have EVER ( in the 2 years I've had her) heard Jen growling at a human. ( but I'm VERY glad she did, this guy was freaking me out )

Well, my gerbils alert me to what they consider 'danger'. They will rush together in a bunch, Ebony will start to drum her feet on the ground and Twilight and Nightshade will make snuffling noises. They're pretty good at it now, with all the practice they've been getting and are pretty syncronised in their technique! Problem is, what they think 'danger' could be is the wind blowing outside, the curtains being drawn or my brother knocking paper off his desk :p

And Tia? She couldn't care less! If me and her ever faced danger together, Tia would be half a mile away before I even turned to look at her! She's a silly girl ;)

My pigeons have a low grunt kinda coo sound when ever there's a hawk or vulture around (which I hope there will not be) good thing there wings are clipped for now,I can also make that sound and they will reply even tho there's no enemy they still respnd just incase. ;)

Autumn will growl or bark on command. She is my sight when we go for walks at night and she makes sure I notice each and every person around us, she just stares at them while we walk and I pay close attention to her.

my german shepard/husky sandy growls are strangers when im walkin her men mostly and when we hide in her cage which she never uses and we will lock ourselves in and scream for help and she actaully puts her teeth to the little lock and pulls us out and licks us all over! she is such a doll!

Lacy is my moms seizure dog and she will get up in moms face if mom is about to have a seizure. If mom is having a really bad day and is supposed to stay in bed Lacy will bark to alert dad if she tries to get out of bed.

Uno protects me from my brother. If he even says anything bad to me Uno will get in between us and start growling and if my brother continues he'll growl louder and if he still continues Uno will start barking.
