Is my cat overweight?

I don't know how much he weighs, but he's kinda chubby. I can feel his ribs when I pet him. His coat is soft, but I'm just wondering... How can you tell when your cat is overweight and needs to lose some weight?

How can you tell>>? If the cat lives with me, it is overweight. Sigh. I just don't get it. I use lite feline food, I monitor how much they eat, I give them play times. I guess they just get it from me (I am overweight too!) :D
