I hope they find out who did this and shoot THEM with a bb gun & see how they like it!
Atkinson NH– Police are trying to figure out who severely injured a neighborhood dog by shooting it with a BB gun.
Sydney, an Australian shepherd mix, started acting sick on Saturday. Veterinarians x-rayed her and discovered that she had been shot with a BB, owner Derek Lively said yesterday.
The BB and about three inches of Sydney's intestines were removed later in the day, he said. Derek Lively was meeting with a veterinarian last night, trying to determine the dog's chances of survival.
The dog has been on antibiotics and pain medication since the injury, said Lively, who lives on Little Rob Road. As of last night, he said, they were trying to figure out how much bacteria remained in the dog's system.
"They're not sure if she has enough white blood cells to fight it off, so she might not survive," he said.
Police Chief Philip Consentino said investigators don't know who shot the dog. Whoever is responsible, he said, will be charged with animal cruelty if captured. No witnesses have reported seeing the shooting.
"We haven't been able to put anything together concrete at this time," Consentino said.
Lively and his wife, Kim, were in Florida when Sydney was shot and he said his neighbor, who was babysitting the dog, heard a yelp from the pet Saturday morning. Sydney then came into her house and started trembling.
Lively said veterinarians told him the shooting must have happened at close range because of how deep the BB went. He said he was also told the wound was fresh. Consentino said he believes the shooting was an isolated incident.
"The rest of the neighbors who have animals shouldn't have any problems or any fears," he said.
Kim Lively got the dog from an animal shelter years ago.
Another neighbor, Keri Beckerman, said friends from the neighborhood have been trying to raise money for the costs of the dog's care.
Beckerman said she was startled when she learned what had happened to the dog.
"I was sick to my stomach," she said.
