View Full Version : 2 different kinds of fish breeding???
i have a female guppy and a platy that i think is a female too. every month or so for the past two months there are new baby fish swimming in my tank. i catch a few and put them in another tank.
the thing is i don't know how these babies are even being made! is it possible for a guppy reproduce with a platy?

I may be incorrect as I haven't done research on this in a while.
Mollies and platies are able to store either (or is it both?) sperm and/or fertilized eggs for up to six months after initial encounter. :)

Yes they can store sperm. Also, a guppy and a molly can breed together (as can many livebearer species), so a platy wouldn't be out of the question. But if you think both are female than it must be that they have stored sperm.
ok. it really freaked me out that my male guppy had died months ago and there are new babies. i "think" the platy is a female. THANKS!
