I really didn't know where to post this, but thought by posting it might
just help me to put this in perspective.

There is a dog that lives across the alley from my back yard. It's a male
Pit Bull Terrior, black with a white blaze on his chest. His face is black, as
are his eyes, and he could be quite intimidating to anyone who doesn't
know him.I feel I do know him a little from talking to him everyday when
I'm out by my garage. He has always been kept outside on a chain since the people brought him home.lately I've become concerned because I haven't
seen anyone at the house for about a week. All the blinds in the house are
closed & have been all week.

Today has been the worst because I heard him actually doing this howl/
moan kind of crying & I'm starting to think he's been abandoned there.
I finally just called AC to report my concern & ask someone to come out
and check the dog.Tonight when I heard him crying again I went over and
brought him a can of dog food & dog bisquits that I had in the house for
treats. After tossing him the bisquits & talking to him I got close enough to
see that the chain was one used to tow cars & it had a huge padlock on
it. :( I saw no dog house & only one bowl which was overturned on their
patio. I will call AC again tomorrow to check & see if they came out & what
the heck is going on over there. I feel so sad for the pooch, I'm so close
but can't do anything but make calls & sneak more food over tomorrow.

If I had a place for him (either a foster home or new home), I would make him "disappear".

Poor baby! Explain to Animal Control that YOU have put food there, so they don't see the food and assume someone is taking regular care of him. That poor baby!

Aw Lizbud, thanks for caring. Calling AC is definitely the right thing. Does he have water? How is the weather tonight? Do you have a Pitty rescue near you? Poor baby. I hope Animal Control can get him into a better situation.

Thanks for helping him lizbud. Poor guy. I hope it all works out for this baby and he gets out of that situation. :( I can imagine how awful you feel. This is very similar to how my neighbor treats her dog  I just want to walk over there and strangle her sometimes.

Oh yeah!! VERY true!!

You are doing all you can!
It's so hard to realize that we can't save them all, no matter how hard we may try. :(
At least he's not going to die chained there.
You should be proud of yourself for doing what you can to help him!
{hugs} to you, I'm sure it's heartbreaking.

I kept checking on the dog today & there's still nobody home.I noticed
an AC van driving down the alley & flagged them down. They knew the
address that I reported & said they had already left a notice on the owners
door about the dog & if they had not responded by by 5:30pm today, they
would come back and take the dog. It's now almost 7:30pm and the dog is
still there. :( Maybe there was another emergency, I don't know.

I just went back over & fed him another can of food & dog bisquits.I have
been careful not to leave any evidence that I've fed him. I cut the dog
food roll of meat & just drop it over the fence onto the concrete walkway.
Not the most hygenic way to feed a dog, but. he eats every bit. I figure
it might help to keep him warm during the night to have something in his
stomach. Weather at night is in the 40's. I can't figure out how to give
him any water, but believe having the wet food does give him some water.

The AC lady assured me that would be back to pick him up tonight, but
now that doesn't seem likely. :(

Oh Liz, you are an angel to him. Thank you for doing what you are doing. This is just horrible. What in the world is wrong with people????? A dog, padlocked to a tow truck chain??? No water, no food???? Sometimes you really have to wonder, don't you???

I hope he will be ok.

Why people can't simply take animals to the shelter, rather thatn leaving them to dehydrate and starve is beyond me. With all the services available in this day & age, how can people can still be so cruel and neglectful?!
That poor doggy out in 40'. *cries* I'll say a prayer for him.
Thanks for giving him attention, love and food Lizbud. You are an angel!

A little update on the dog. When I went out this morning to check on him,
he had a brand new blue nylon collar on.The heavy chain that was wrapped
around his neck was still there, but now it's hooked to his collar clip and not
weighing him down around his neck.I also noticed a new stainless steel water
bowl. :) I'm sure AC must have reached someone in the house & laid down
the law to them.I'm going to keep checking in on him for awhile yet to see
if they follow through with a dog house shelter for him.Food, water and
shelter, that's the law.I can't make them treat him as I treat my animals
but at least he'll have what he needs.

Boy they are sure missing out on a lot by just leaving him in the yard all
the time, he's a very smart dog.He knows who I am already & brightens
up whenever I go near his fence. :)

Well tat is good news! I do kind of wish that they had taken him, but now they will probably check on him to make sure he is being taken care of properly!

I walked past the dog's yard while calling my "garage kitties" in for
supper & happened to notice this rough looking dude standing by the dog's
front gate. It wasn't the man who lives there & I'm thinking maybe it's the
guy who he hired to care for the dog while he's gone. The PB
ran over to the other side of the yard & away from the guy.

I had hoped to get a picture to post here, but I have to be careful that
they don't know I was the one who called about his conditions.

Yes. Be careful. You don't want to get any unsavory characters mad at you!!
Thanks for the update. I'm glad his conditions are a little better.

thanks for caring about this neglected furbabie !!

can you post what general area youre in ???

living a life on a chain, is no life for a dog.......

if I were there, I would take him and either rehome him myself or contact a pit rescuer to do it...

The Family Dog

The family's dog was bought for a guard,

Chained to a post in a chilly backyard,

Housed in a shed that was airless and dark,

And every few weeks had a run in the park.

When boredom set in with no fun and no work,

One day it broke loose and went quietly berserk

Pa couldn't fathom just why it went wild,

As it flattened his wife and then bit his child.

The police were called in to sort out the mess,

And the whole sorry tale was revealed by the press,

The Rescue Society was really annoyed,

So, the dog was re-homed -- and the owners destroyed.
