Sick bird :(

My parakeet, Cloudy has been acting really weird lately. First, she started avoiding the other birds in the cage and she was always puffed up and at the bottom of the cage. Then, her right eye started bulging out. I took her to the vet, and he gave me some drops to put in her eye every day. I did that for a week, and her eye is pretty much back to normal. I took her back a second time a week later so the vet could see how she was doing, and he said that there might still be pain in her eye, so he gave her a shot of vitamins in her breast muscle and gave me some antibiotics to give her every day just in case there was an infection somewhere. It's been a day, and maybe I should wait a little longer to see if it's working, but she's starting to act weird again. I have her in a seperate cage from the other birds and she's on the bottom of the cage all the time now. I try to get her to go on the finger, but she can barely walk. I figure that's why she's not on her perch, because she doesn't have enough strength to stand up there. She has her eyes closed alot now, too. I don't know what to do, she seems really sick. Maybe I should wait to see if the shots the vet gave her kick in...I don't know though. Does anyone think they know anything about this or how I could help her?

I know nothing about the care of birds, I'll be keeping Cloudy in my thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery! :(

Yikes, I'm sorry. Birds are such delicate creatures. By the time they show symptoms of an ailment, the illness has most likely overwhelmed them. Is this veterinarian an ordinary vet? If s/he is, I would suggest you schedule an appointment with an avian veterinarian ASAP. Check the AAV's website for a list of local vets: http://aav.org/vet-lookup/

It's difficult to diagnose any animal on the Internet, but this is especially true with birds because the symptoms are so subtle.

Is she pooping okay? What about her appetite? If she's having diarrhea, it could signal something as mundane as missing bacteria in her stomach to something as fatal as kidney disease. In the meantime, the best you can do is follow the veterinarian's instructions and provide a warm, calm enviornment for Cloudy. With my ailing birds, I'll drape a towel over their cage and place a heat lamp about a foot away from the cage. I hope Cloudy gets better!

Just make sure she is always seperated from other birds and every time you touch her wash your hands well because the sickness from the bird can easily get to the others.

She sounds very sick and needs to be in a quiet room with the cage half covered and make sure no drafts are around.

Maybe she has an infection behind her eye. :confused:

Whatever the case she's sick and needs to be alone only touch her when needed...as said watch her appetite and make sure she's drinking lots of water since birds can get dehydrated very fast especially when sick.

Also watch those poops make sure there regulare and not drippy.
