Recently my 8yr female lab has been refusing to walk in the neighborhood. She has also been unusually tense lately. She has been taking ppa for incontinence for 2yrs. Some friends have suggested that PPA increases a dog's nervousness, and jacks-up their flight or fight instict. Has anyone encountered a similar behavioral issue with ppa?
Thanks!

I do not know what PPA, I hope someone here does and can help you!
Have you spoken to your vet about it yet?

PPA, yes, it it phenylpropanolamine.
I do know & have known people in the past (a lot of them too) that have used this drug. Although I presonally have never had to use it on any of my pets. And I also remember some brief history on the drug from when I worked at a vets office. The only side affects that I know of are restless, (but not really nervousness like you described) and high blood pressure. Both are fairly rare but the first is more common.
I am sorry that I can not be of more help. I would reccomend a trip to your vet to see what they say. It may be something else that is causing these symptoms or it could be the drug. If it is the drug there are others available for you to try. Good luck.

If I remember correctly when my GSD was on it...one of the side effects was "excitability". It is one of the more effective drugs out there, though. Unless you talk to your vet about putting the dog on DES (a steroid, and not recommended unless it is severe incontinence), I don't know many other options.
