i just caught cbs news on the television saying a french paper is reporting that the saudi intelligence service reports bin lauden is dead or dying from typhoid. does anyone else know about this?
*edit* msnbc.com has the story, but npr, fox, the bbc and the nytimes, all online editions don't have it as of 7:15 am, eastern us time
If this is true, then once again I have learned about a major event on Pet Talk. (I learned of the death of JFKjr here). I will turn on CNN right now.

I just read about this on a German news website (www.t-online.de (http://onnachrichten.t-online.de/c/91/51/73/9151730.html)) and came here to see if anyone here knows more. The article I read said more or less the same joycenalex has posted here. The French Secret Service has obviously gotten the news from the Saudi-Arabian Secret Service, and the French Premiere Chirac has been informed last Thursday about Bin Laden's death. The French Department of Defense would either conform or deny these news.
Apparantly it has been reported earlier that Bin Laden had to deal with a severe attack of typhoid in August, and couldn't get any medical help because he had to hide.
Well, I guess if he's really dead or not, we will never know for sure....

It would be good riddance if he is dead, but I would have liked to have him captured and confront the families of his victims.

Just hope it's true, I wish there was a way of confirming that the story was truthful. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that it's true!

I'm surprised he's not dead already.
We'll never really know if he is or not, though.

If it's true, I'm not going to grieve! Not many news sites has published it though.
In any case, if it's true, it'll be on every front page of tomorrows papers - so here are most of them: http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/

Whether this report of him being dead is more true than countless of other reports preceeding it, I'm not sure. I would have thought he'd be dead soon anyway if he is spending all his life in hiding.
But unfortunately, whenever he does pop his clogs, there's always going to be some other nutter who'll take his place :(

Out of the mouths of babes. Zara, you never cease to amaze me. Mind answering one question though? Where the hell did you come up with "pop his clogs"?? That gave me a real chuckle. Thanks! You're right though. There WILL always be someone else whackier than he is.

It's a warm feeling to know he may be burning in hell at this exact moment.

Somehow I doubt if he's dead. He supposidly died over a month ago, so why did the French not tell us?
Seems odd that all of a sudden he's dead right when there are rumors we are going to go after him in Palestine (or was that Pakistan?). Just a little too convienent for me.

I watched the news tonight and they said that this "rumor" going around was because of a casual conversation between a French Diplomat and another from somewhere else (Pakistan, I think). The reporter basically said "show me the body" before he'll believe he's dead. One can only hope.

LM (_|_) Off at the "Pops His Clogs" comment too....
Not that Id ever wish anybody dead but when it comes to A$$ami I sure hope this info is true and he has kicked the bucket.... He does'nt deserve to be here on this Earth & I hope his after life is not a nice one for all that he has done to so many thousands of lives.... I hope he's feeling very , very warm tonight thats for sure warmer than he has ever felt in his life..... When I say warm I dont mean with a down comforter either......

I doubt seriously that U.S. intelligence wouldn't know it if it's true. As for the French...I also seriously doubt if they would offer the U.S. any help at all unless some other country was readying to attack them...
I'll believe when I see the body. However, I will say that if he is dead, it couldn't have happened to a better guy.
