For those following Leda (NYC shelter cat....doolittleky posted her petfinder photo and Lizzie prompted her rescue).
She has been out of her cage for 2 days now. The first day I believe she spent most of it under the bookcase, but she always came out to see me when I was there. The 2nd day I found that she had ventured into the second room! A big step for her.
The best thing is that she really adores me (so I assume this means that she DOES like people) :) She will be someone's lap cat, I am certain of it.
She still HATES the other cats. :(
I know that she eats when I offer her canned food, but whether or not she eats dry food in between is uncertain.
I still have not actually seen her use the litter boxes, but I have not found any accidents.
She is a wonderful and loving cats. :D :D

We do care, Jen. I think she's making marvelous progress.
She is a wonderful and loving cat.
I didn't post when I read this early this morning (does anybody else have problems sleeping? ), but I was really touched by the way you are touched by her....
She sounds like a terrific kitty. Maybe she'll come around to love at least some of the other cats. Well, we can always hope!

Actually, there was some caring in the thread about your mysterious siggy, started by Catnapper!
The question was about 17?
Some guesses were Simba, I guessed Leda (though she hates the other cats! )
I noticed in previous pics, Leda had her belly kind of close to the ground, in sort of a semi-slink. Has her posture changed?
I would bet so - she sounds like she has come an awful long way!
Maybe you could keep her and just carry her around in a snugli :)
Give her a hug and belly rub - and anything else she wants - from me!

Her stance is not as low but not totally upright yet, either. BUT she was not hiding today when I went up this morning. She was just laying in a corner watching.
She comes almost running to me now. :) But boy does she still growl at the cats. And I think it might be jealousy.....she chases them away if they get to close to me. She might prefer to be an only cat with a lap all to herself.
Maybe you could keep her and just carry her around in a snugli
I'd think she'd like this. ;)

I'm glad she is responding so well to you Jen. Ashame she isn't warming to the other cats but that's how it goes sometimes. I often think my little Scout would have been much happier as an only cat. She has bonded so well with me and is my most social when company comes over but she doesn't seem to know how to interact with cats and in turn they all pick on her.

Good girl, Leda!!! Jen, it sounds like she is definitely making progress ... I hope she eventually learns to get along with the other kitties, but at least she will be a loving pet for a new home! ;)

Jen, I'm glad to hear that Leda is doing well. Hopefully in time she'll get used to being with the other cats.:)

Hi Jen! Just saw this thread. Leda seems to be adjusting rather well and appears to be really attached to you. It does sound like Leda will be happiest as an only kitty though.

yippee Leda!!!!! Yeah Jen!!! I am so glad that Leda is doing so well and I hope she keeps on improving(I know she will). It jsut shows you that it only takes someone to care! Too bad she doesn't care for the other cats though. Maybe she will turn around though, ya never know.

Wasn't Leda supposed to love other cats but spit at humans? Did they give you the right cat :D Sad though I would have been for her, I would not have contacted the shelter if she'd been noted as disliking other cats. Sigh! I'm sorry, Jen, I seem to have complicated your life without ever meaning to - though you seem to enjoy the fact that she loves you so much.

Yes, according to Lucille's write-up on petfinder, the owners said she is "afraid of strangers but loves other cats".
And the NYC shelter had Leda in a cage with 2 other cats! (I did not see it, but when the shelter worker went to get her for me she asked which cat she was because there were 3 in that cage number).
So maybe she is just a hard cat for introductions. You know, it takes her a long time to like strange cats.
But please don't worry about "complicating" my life. It is not bad enough to need to seperate her totally. (THAT would be an inconvienience). She and they have an understanding to go their seperate ways. ;)
I agree though, I too never offer to foster a cat KNOWN to hate other cats. It is kind of an impossibility around here.

I dont think its hate so much as fear Jen, as as a stray Leda had to be afraid of other Bigger Hungrier Cats.
Princess was here a long time before she was totally comfortable.
It will take time.
