Do you think she is friendly enough with strangers that she would stay in someone's home without returning to your home? She seems sweet but not being around her ever, I don't know much about her behavior around strangers.

I have a good feeling about this doggie, and I did also have a good feeling about Glaciers pup that took off one day...... so please don't worry too much. I bet she returns soon.

What was it that made her run? I remember you said something about your dad working around the house, but that didn't make much sense to me. Did he spook her with a hammering sound? Just curious.

It's the same here Pam. Kiara is so loved & cared for and I guess this shows
if a pup like Kiara can be gone from home, it could happen to any one of us

Some thoughts:

How close do you live to a governmental border - where a DIFFERENT Animal Control or Service
group might have jurisdiction?
If you live within 10 mile of such a border - you should contact ALL the different
Agencies - someone who "rescued" Kiara from the street may have easily
crossed the border
and not know it - and the average driver is pretty bad about remembering
WHERE they were when something happens ...

And How are you Describing her?
Many dogs are described one way (Rettie Mix) by the owner;
yet an Animal Control tech may look at her and say "Beagle Mix" ...
If the Agency only goes by THEIR description - you may miss a match.

I'd suggest you print off several good, detailed pics of her and hand-deliver them to
ALL the nearby Animal Controls & Rescues ...
and *look* at their "inmates" yourself.

Along this line - you need to be asking when the various shelters and Control Agencies will be
Putting "Unclaimed" dogs down ... I'd sure make it a point to visit all nearby
shelters BEFORE they euthanize ANY dogs - just to double-check.

You can't rely on her MicroChip - they may not even check her, not have the proper scanner, or just *miss* reading her chip.

Do you have any malls near where you live? Perhaps you can put flyers on people's cars? Perhaps bring flyers to all the groomers, pet food stores, doggy day cares? How about schools? Do you know any kids where you can pay them $10/$20 and tell them to bring the flyers to school and hand them out? Maybe even pay them to go door to door?

I wished you lived near me. I would help you distribute flyers.

we passed out flyers in 2 surrounding neighborhoods tonight. Took more campaign signs and made posters out of them.
called a few radio stations. Checked both the SPCA & animal control today (both are atkeast 30 hour away, and we chedk both yesterday but i am so helpless) this morning i emailed all of the shelters/rescues for florida on petfinder. i asked them to spread the word as far as they can.
i got about 15 replies saying that theyve forwarded it to others, family, and friends.

Here is my to-do list... any ideas let me know

-more vets offices
-west pasco SPCA (called but want to visit)
-more signs in other neighborhoods - expand our signage
-call animal services hotline for update (they name a few dogs brought in on recording)
-call & visit humane society of pinellas (closed on wednesdays)
-ask more businesses to post ( got to plazas infront of our neighborhood with signs, plus my work)

i am so grateful for my boss, he has got my schedual covered for tomorrow. i am not sure about friday or saturday though. i will be useless if i go in at all.

Oh Kay, I am just so sorry! :( Is she a real outgoing and friendly dog? If so, I bet someone let her inside their house! I can't imagine her just disappearing and no one saw her .... that just seems odd. Maybe if someone does have her in their home, they will place an ad in the local newspaper! Maybe:
a) She was "captured" soon after she bolted and is inside a home
-or-
b) She was "captured" and driven out of the immediate area

Best fix for either situation is good Signage - your Campaign /Missing Dog signs
are a GREAT idea!
Do you have a "good", highly visible picture of her on the yard signs?
Be sure all signs & posters remain fresh & readable after they get rained on.

Object is to attract the attention of the folks that have her - or -
alert a neighbor who will hopefully point out to the person that has her that
she belongs to you.

And don't rely on Hot Line "Recordings" - **TALK** to a Human -
the recording may not be up to date or not complete with all found critters.
And be careful with your and their "description" ... unless they have a PICTURE
to compare to their "inmates" - there's room for doubt.

Another thought - is Kiara "supposed" to have a City or County Dog License -
and does she HAVE a current one?
An UN-licensed dog has less rights than a lost but licensed dog ...
With no collar she isn't *wearing* her tag - but HAVING it might help.

If you don't have one for her this year - ask Animal Control if it would "help"
to buy her one right now.

God is watching over Ki. There is no reason to suspect the worst, just think how long Delta was gone. Sherman's sister Tori ran off and was gone for almost two weeks, but finally found her way to a home she'd been in for less than a week. Dogs are very good at taking care of themselves, and Kiara's smart and resourceful. She'll be back.

Coworker said they saw a dog on a road down the street and it went running into the woods. she couldn't see it well so she called us to check it out. brought our spotlight and called her name over and over, no response, not even a bark from another dog. gave a guy in the nearby neighborhood a flier, i want to go back later to post some signs/catch more people.

I know when one of my kid's dogs was missing about 10 years ago, I found out there are a million shelters around this part of Florida. We spent days driving to each of them to try to find him. This is a horrible reason to have one of the largest threads in Pet Talk history, but Kay, that must help you to know that you have so many people who support you and love you and want Kiara to be back at home where she belongs.

I know you are working diligently to put up signs, make calls, etc, but make sure you don't forget to look for signs, too. I have a very good example for you of why you need to keep your eyes open for the "found" signs.

Years ago, my best friends had to leave for Florida, suddenly, and they asked me to please keep their two children with me so that they could leave to be with friends who had lost a child. Several days before, their Lab, Lucky, had disappeared. They had to leave town, knowing that Lucky was still out there somewhere. Just by chance, Matthew, Hannah and I stopped at the dry cleaners near my house (not near their house) and there was a sign beside the door about a "found" yellow Lab. The woman wanted a description from any callers. I called my friends on their cell phone and asked for anything that might distinguish Lucky from just any Yellow Lab. I had the feeling it was him, and I was right! When I called, we went up to identify him and luckily, he immediately knew the children and went nuts and I had been able to give her a pretty good description of him on the phone. Lucky was found! :) But it was such a rare chance that this could even happen.

Don't give up (I know you won't), but keep your eyes peeled and ask friends to do the same thing. You never know.

I am still keeping my eye on this thread very often and am sorry that Ki has not been found yet. Don't give up! I think that probably someone found her, found that she didn't have a collar on, thought she was a stray and kept her. Once they see the ad in the paper or one of your other signs, she will be on her way home.

Keep looking even in neighborhoods you think are far. Are there any ditches near you that Kiara could get herself into but not out of? Sadie was lost in a ditch for a lagoon once. I had to look in it to see her - she did not bark or whimper or anything.

You have so many eye-catching pictures of her that will look great on the posters and hopefully that will get her found.

Even if someone did take her in with the hopes of keeping her (one problem with being so lovable) maybe their neighbors will take notice and inform you.

When Bud and Sierra ran away a few years ago, they were gone for a day and they stuck around one person's yard all night and stayed there the next morning. The people who's yard it was saw their pictures in the post office and called me to their house (because Bud and Sierra are skidish and will not come to strangers) When I got there I called and called them and they didn't come out of hiding for almost half an hour!!! :eek:
So Kay, if you think that might have been her near the woods, I'd spend a lot of time there either of your other two, or both of them. She's been on her own for a while and I'm sure is scared.

Kay, I swear to god I thought I had her today.

I went to animal services to check out the dogs for adoption, and decided what the heck, I'll go and look through the found dogs just to make sure. I looked through the first two sections with no luck, and I was going into the last section and someone was standing off to the side of the kennels by a computer with a "rottie/dobie butt" dog, I could only see the backside. And then I went through the last section with no luck, came back out and took another look at the dog, she was facing me now, and I almost jumped up and down with joy, it looked JUST like her. White star and the ear set and the tail and EVERYTHING. So I asked the girl who had her what was going on with the dog, and she pointed to someone with a uniform on and said I'm leaving her here...they are doing construction and that was the new animal intake section. So I asked her if she had just found her...but it turns out she's had for "a while now". :confused: So I guess it wasn't her, but it really looked like her, except maybe shorter than I imagined. Wow though.

I'm sorry there is no good news yet. But, no news is better than bad news. Keep up hope kay, we're all her for you.

Kay, I'm not completely sure of your exact location, but I've been trying to look at shelters in Florida. I did find a dog that looks similar to Kiara. I may be wrong, but thought it was worth a try. The information on her was posted 3 hours ago. The site says they think she's about 7 years old, which of course, Kiara is not...but still thought you may want to check. Still praying for Kiara's safe return. I can't imagine how worried you must be. :(

I don't think that dog is Kiara, Ki has a lot more white on her chest than that dog has and Kiki is smaller with a different facial structure I think..

I just called the shelter. I told the Lady that she would probably be described as a Rottie mix but that she could also be a Black and Tan coonhound or any other black and tan dog. I described her best I could, but she still only looked to try to find Rottie mixes. Apparently the only Rottie mixes that have come in has been an adult male and a female puppy.

The only thing I'm worried about is going to the shelter and bringing home something that my foster puppies could catch. I'll search around on the internet to see what I could do to prevent me bringing home anything but I don't want to put them at risk. Also, there are two cities near me that have a humane society/animal control, and I'll call those in a minute.

Sometimes dogs just take off for parts unknown and travel many miles. I don't know where Kay lives. I have a niece in Jacksonville. Maybe she could go look at the dog. Let me know, someone.

Also, dogs get picked up by truckers, travelers and then dropped off in another city...... so four hours, isn't unlikely.

I hope this story ends soon. I feel so sorry for Kay and the pup.

It might help if you post (here) a couple of good "Wanted Poster" shots of Kiara:

1) A Full Frontal shot - face, chest, front paws showing her markings;

2) A Side Profile shot - head to tail including leg markings.

Both shots should be against a PLAIN background - so her details stand out
and there's no distractions in the pictures.

And post her basic measurements:
* Age
* Weight
* Height at the shoulders
* Overall "length" (Head to base of tail)

It will "refresh" folks memory and help to weed out false alarms;
AND you'll have the info ready to e-mail to a shelter or possible "finder".

I remember one day when I was young, my horse got loose from her pasture. I cried and cried. We searched high and low for her and I was so afriad she was out in the woods lost and we'd never find her. Finally we went down to this rock quarry down the road and a family had found her and tied her up in their backyard. We drove up just asking if they'd seen a horse running loose and there she was, I was sooooooo happy! I hugged her for so long :) I got kind of jealous and mad because their daughter screamed and cried because she wanted to keep her. (Even though they had no yard at all hardly and definately no room for a horse.) I was just happy we found her. I couldn't have been but maybe 10 or so years old. I miss that gal of mine.

I just know you'll find Kiki very soon and I am keeping you in my thoughts. Come home Miss Kiki.

You & family & friends could wear them around town, maybe someone who has seem Ki would see it who might not pay attention to a poster - especially in restaurants, grocery store, etc.

stress makes us do strange things but Phred was just trying to help you have a zillion pics of the pups are any mugshot worthy?
Is there anyway you can email the pics to the shelter? I know it is a far drive.
Anything is possible someone could have picked her up and dropped her off. I am still thinking of KiKi and you.

Kay, I have been in your shoes when it comes to a lost dog. I lost my heart dog Kato five years ago this January. He was a shar/pei pit bull mix. I couldn’t eat, sleep, I snapped at people a lot, it was only because I was beside myself with worry and grief. I would lay awake at night listening for him to scratch at the door. I had dreams I found him I would wake up so happy only to realize I had been dreaming. So, I honestly do know what you are going through. I would not wish the feelings you are having on anyone. It breaks my heart, it truly does. We all love you and Ki here on PT Kay. Don’t forget that ok? I'm still praying hard for you and your precious girl. (((HUGS)))

i don't have any pictures for him like he wanted nor can i take measurements of a dog that isn't here
i have posted basically every picture of my dogs on here so he has just as much luck as i do finding a "good" picture

i have emailed her picture and information to all of the shelters and rescues listed on petfinder in the state of florida already, on tuesday or something.


we just drove to 2 different shelters that are atleast an hour away each, no lck there.

i know this sounds a little prying, but can you look in people's yards to see if someone is keeping her chained or locked up? i don't know if someone already suggested this or not. a friend of mine had a yorkie run away and she found her by watching a lady take her in her house. when she tried to get the dog back the lady told her she knew she was a lost dog she just didn't want to give her back.

Kay, everyone is trying to help. Phred was only giving you some good ideas, and we all know that you have many, many pictures of all of your dogs. Even if you don't have exact measurements you could estimate. I know sometimes it is hard to judge the weight of a dog from a picture. I know you are super stressed. Maybe we should all just take a deep breath.....

If somthing like that happens, then she could call animal control and have them bring a scanner out to check the microchip! Did Kay's posters state she was microchipped, maybe if everyone knows that, no one will try to keep her? I hope you find her soon Kay!
