View Full Version : Is he going to hate me forever?

I have had my cat Lucifer for about 2 months now. During most of this time he has been very affectionate. He used to greet me at the door. He also slept on my pillow every night. He would also constantly suck my ears, which was annoying.

Recently I brought home a stray kitten I found. The two of them have become very close very quickly. They are always sitting or playing together. Of course I am happy that they are getting along, but I am also somewhat upset because Lucifer never pays attention to me anymore.

He will no longer play with me and although he sleeps on my bed he now sleeps at the end with the kitten. He also rarely sucks at my ears anymore. When I pick him up he doesn't purr and he just wants down. As much as I am happy he likes his new friend I am afraid his aloofness towards me is going to last forever. Any advice on how to bring the old Lucifer back? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

The thing with cats is, they are very close to their kind. They like to live in colonies like lions. Though Lucifer still loves his momma, he has found a new member to form a group with. Give him time. Once the newness of the kitty wears off, he will once again purr and suckle you lobes! Don't rush him. Let him adjust to the new arrival and the change in his life style. The more you push by holding him against his will, constantly petting him and such, he will become distant from you. I would say a couple of months and he will turn back to his old self, with a new friend. Keep us posted, and good luck. :)

I think it is nice of you - I am sorry I don't know your name - to reassure Lucifer's "momma." I would feel sad, too, if I lost the affection of my cat - but thinking it is only temporary would make me feel better.

Ah, he'll get over it. Don't take it personally. I don't whenever I have a new kitty in my house. Until my cats go to work and pay rent, their opinions hardly ever count (NOT!!!)

He actually seems to be coming around. He is sucking my ears again at night and annoying as it is I am happy cause I don't want him to change and stop being friendly. The stray kitten isn't very cuddly (maybe something to do with her circumstances before I found her) so it would be nice to have at least one cuddly cat.

i think you should try to spend more time with him or her...he or she will will probably keep on playing with his buddy. but deep down in his heart he remembers you a one of the niceest people he has ever known. and sometimes he will get tired of his buddy and come to you and cuddle or play.

Well, the little guy is sure cuddly with his buddy! LOL I LOVE this picture!

Once Lucifer gets more, er, sucky, I think you'll find that the kitten will get cuddlier. Good thing you have two arms! :D

Glad to hear Lucifer is coming around! He remembers you!
