We have family over this weekend. To be more specific, my dads 2 cousins and one of thier wives. One of the cousins, the one who's divorced is really annoying me. He is normally a likeable(sp?) but when it comes to animals, no. I get the feeling he just doesn't like animals or me. We were watching a nature show this morning on the travel channel. They were showing footage of a Osprey and some other hawks hunting small mammals and birds, and Star was chirping loudly. He's like to my dad, "Why don't you leave the parakeet outside and a hawk can hunt it. It will be his dinner." Then he laughs. What the heck is so funny about that?? Star didn't even DO ANYTHING! She was just chirping. That's what birds do. My dad didn't answer, he just looked at him. Then he says I'm annoying Sassy for petting her, he says because I was playing with her and she was growling she was mad. It's called a play growl! Then he goes "I doubt that it was a play growl." after I told him it was. Then after playing with Sassy I go over to Star and start petting her. He rolls his eyes and goes "I guess it's the birds turn." He also scared Rio (my betta.). What did I do wrong?? I was only playing with my animals and stuff. Why do people have to be like this? I truley feel bad for any pets he has. :(

Ugh, some people. Isn't it funny how those who know nothing always know it all?

I'm so sorry that you have to deal with that Alyssa. It's so unfair that we have to deal with such ignorant people in our lives.

I know how it is to have family that don't understand your love and friendship with your animals. My uncle said fish don't have feelings.I can never figure out if my uncle is teasing or not but still it makes me mad.

Gah.. I would have told him that he should go outside and let the hawks get him. :D
I feel for you. I have an aunt who ALWAYS critisizes my pets. When she was over, I had Ophelia(one of my rats) on my shoulder when I walked into the kitchen. When I walked past my aunt, she started screaming to "get that nasty vermin" away from her and her kids because "all rats carry diseases". She even acted like she was going to swat at my Ophie. I told her that if she doesn't like my rats, leave the house since she's just as much vermin as my rats are. :o Then her youngest kid asked me if she could hold Ophelia, and her mother jumped down my throat about how "no child of hers is going to hold the nasty thing". I got grounded and all for that by my parents, but it was all worth it.
Hehe^^ Not to mention that I took my aunt's youngest kid back to my room and let her hold any of the rats that she wanted to hold. =)
(((hugs))) I hate it when people think they know your pets better than yourself.

Urgh, I have the hardest time staying civil around people like that. At the very least, they'll be gone soon. Hugs for Sassy!

Some people act like that just to get under your skin. He knows you love your pets and wants to annoy you. Hopefully he'll be gone soon. ;)

Thank you everybody for the caring and replies. I'm surprised to see so many people have realitaves(sp?) like this. They are gone but I'm still a little upset because, I REALLY enjoy the company of the other two people who came, they aren't like that in the least. They love their dogs more then their kids it seems. They have a Great Dane and a Golden Retriever and the man carries a picture in his wallet of the Golden he loves him so much. I'm still a little mad and I can't believe what he said about Star, but I do feel better to. Thank you! :)
