Gonzo broke his toe in Thursday :(... apparently while playing frizbee by the lake, I think he must've caught a nail in some of the brush. I noticed him licking his paw and he hasn't had allergies this year (probably due to Raw) but they usually do spark up in the Summer. I assumed he had maybe been licking/chewing excessively because there was some dry blood around the digit. So I called the Vet and got an appointment for today. I was looking more closely yesterday, and I realized his nail was crooked on that toe, and there was puss coming out, and it was swollen to twice the size it was supposed to be.

He got x-rays today, and he broke some ligaments around the nail, and the toe is not "broken", but it's very sprained. He's on antibiotics, anti-swelling meds, and pain meds (Cephalexin & Carprofen), and I have to soak his paw in epsom salt several times a day. WORST OF ALL, he can't play with Fozzie or run, which is so hard. =( Poor kiddo. He's really drowsy, and he's supposed to wear an e-collar to prevent licking, but I would rather just watch him because Fozzie thinks the e-collar is an exciting new toy. :<

Aw, poor Gonzo! Resting is no fun when you want to run and play, I hope you're back up and about soon!

Thanks for the well-wishes! =D I will post the pictures once I upload them. My laptop is being janky and won't do it.

I seriously had to keep him on a down-stay while Fozzie was outside, they always do their zoomies for 30 minutes before bed in the backyard, and Gonzo can't right now. =/ It sucks, and he has never had an injury, so I'm dealing with this as badly as he is.

Oh no! Poor Gonzo. :(

I'm wishing Gonzo a super fast recovery. Good luck to you also. I know how hard it is to keep a dog down and not letting him run around and play, especially when you have another one wanting to play soooo badly.

Aww, poor Gonzo. I hope he heals quickly. What time period did they give you? Keep him quiet for two weeks? Or do you have to go back to the vet again before he can run around?

Ouch. I know about foot, leg injuries all to well. I wish yous the best of luck. He's lucky he didn't break any of the foot bones, they can be difficult to treat. (Raustyk has permanant sesamoidal fractures in one her feet). Gonzo's in my thoughts & prayers for a speedy & successful recovery!
hugs to you both

Ouch!! Gonzyyy!! Miss Giselle is worried sick about you!! :( Don't worry, though, Gonzy. Sequoia (also a member of PT) also broke her toe but she was up and running in no time. And, if you've seen her pictures, that girl can RUN. Hurry up and heal, okay?
Miss Gissie sends her kissies and lickies for a quick recovery!

Poor Gonzo! We can relate - Sherman broke a toe about a year ago. He ran head on in to a tree. Well the good part is that toes seem to heal quickly.
P.S. Sherman said to tell Gonzo to milk it for all the treats it's worth!

I'm so sorry I never updated this! I've been super busy! =P

Well, I thought I would add some before & after pics. The before is right after taking him to the Vet, the after is about 1 1/2 weeks later. It looks much much better now! Thanks for all of the nice comments for mah boy.

Man!!! Dogs are just like kids. I always say, Dogs never get Mentally older then a six year old child. They are so much fun. You think you have them trained to be a mature dog but then they turn around and do something dumb. Hope he feels better soon.

the poor guy! :( Rocky did the same thing when he was playing too rough with Jenny and he got antibiodics, too. I hope the poor boy is feeling better! :)
