Many of you are familiar with Logan's now famous "opposum" adventures! "Logan's Tuesday Night Trivails!" Well, we came close to topping that the other day. Except it was an early AM call!

As ususal, Star and Cody decided it was time for the sun to come out and woke me up around 5am. I went downstairs to feed them breakfast and let them out. As I opened the porch door out to the backyard, Star went beserko!!:D I mean REALLY beserko! Well, the neighborhood wasn't thrilled, I'm sure. I thought maybe someone was walking their dog, and so I tried to usher them back into the kitchen. NOT!! I had locked myself out! The porch has windows opening into the kitchen, but once the windows are shut, it is impossible to push them up from the outside. SO, my little pea brain decided I could pry the sill up with my priuning shears. It worked! In I climbed, Star nipping at my feet, and opened the door and went to grab the dogs. Ut oh.................I smell skunk!! The smell was SO strong you could taste it and we were all covered in "eau de Skunk" in a second! I looked onto the lawn and there scampered away the little bushy tailed culprit!!:D After my eyes stopped stinging I looked toward the porch screen and what do I see, eye to eye with Cody, but a doggie!!! A big doggie, white with butterscotch splotches. Looked just like a white GSD!! Cody was kissing him through the screen! Must be their kindred GSD spirits! I quickly locked up the girls, grabbed a slip lead and went to try and capture him, thinking for sure he would bolt. Much to my surprise, he came running to me, jumped up and starting giving kisses!!:)

I put him in the back of my car and went to check for ID. Well, this boy was all decked out in spiffy, new gear! A new collar, shiny, gold "bone" tag with name, etc. AND his old "Brewster Animal Rescue League" tags!!:( This was a newly adopted doggie! Now, mind you it's 5am, I'm in my pj's, no coffee yet, and I won't describe what my hair looked like!:D Anyway, I saw the dog's name was Elliot, quick checked the owner's name and phone #. I went inside and made the call and as the man answered, of course, I proceeded to call him "Mr. Elliott!" LOL! Anyway, he said "Yes, yes, that's my dog!" I told him I would drive him over, so off we went, Elliot thinking he was going to the beach and me wondering what this man would think of this frazzled woman with puffy eyes in pj's smelling like a skunk!

The "Dad" was waiting outside and was NOT looking too thrilled! Of course, it was the DOGS FAULT!!! I think the man was just embarassed though. Seems sweet Elliot had bolted the door the prior evening at midnight when they let out their other GSD! The Dad chased him but he got away! Sweet Elliot was just adopted the day before.:) I pray they don't let him run loose. I couldn't bear the sight of another animal hit by a car. Imagine, 5 hrs on the run! He was the sweetest, gentlest doggie! I love him already! Thank goodness he was safe. I plan to walk by the house often to check on Elliot!;) Oh, yes, the car and Star and Cody still smell of skunk, and probably Elliot too!:D That's my story! (Hmmmmmmm...Do you think I used enough smilies??]

Oh, my goodness, Sandra!! I laughed so hard my side hurts. You do get into some predicaments. You and Logan should start a 'wild life' club. Has anyone asked about your perfume yet? Thanks for giving me a much needed laugh!:D

Oh Sandra it's too bad Logan isn't around this weekend to read this one! I know she would be doubled over in laughter as I am! I have a very vivid mental picture in my head! LOL! :D I have told you before how I commiserate with you about having furkids waking you up. In my house it's the cats who wake me, and then Bella, up! Once we're up the first thing I have to do is let Bella out and I live in fear that she will bark at a critter at 6:00 a.m.! That said, I do understand your concern today, but it seems the barking was the least of it!! It got worse from there! :D :D I am dying here picturing you with your pruning shears and the smell of skunk all around!! Too too funny!!!! Let's hope that tomorrow will be a more peaceful day for you because after all it will finally be your birthday and now more than ever you will need some R&R! Thanks so much for the laugh tonight Sandra! ;)

I'm always getting myself into these "I Love Lucy" fixes!:D Pam, I live in FEAR of the girls chasing a critter up a tree and yelping uncontrollably at 5am! Winter is especially perilous; the sun doesn't come up until 7am! (At least after sunup it's a bit more forgivable!)

Connie...What??? You don't like Eau de Skunk???:D

Sandra,

WOW !!! What an adventure you had this morning.
I think your "little pea brain" did just fine in figuring out
how to get back inside.:D :D :D Hope Elliott's people
appreciate ALL you went through to get him back to
them. Did you manage to get rid of the smell yet?
Hope your Birthday tomorrow is a very Happy One, but
maybe a little less hectic, :D :D :D All The Best, Liz.

Sandra, that is soooo funny (not to you, of course)! I could just picture it!! That was nice of you to bring the dog back home, even if you were still in your jammies and sleep hair! What an early birthday present (skunks, dogs and all)! I really hope tomorrow is an excellent day!

{{{Sandra!!!}}}

ROTFLOL! Snort, snicker, giggle! What an adventure, in fact a series of adventures, before the am coffee! I am so proud of you for rescuing yet another critter, and am half in love with Elliot already.

Hope you 'air out' soon! Hugs from a distance.

Love,
A.L. and the furry brood

Sandra, this story brought a much needed laugh! I can't even imagine the thoughts going through your head with all of that going on! You are such a great person to take that doggie home to it's family, expecially after just what happened!!!

LOL!!! Sometimes I am glad we don't have too much wildlife around us...the girls never seem to find much more then birds or squirrels to chase (now that I say that I'll go out and find skunks, possums and raccoons in our backyard :) ) Thanks for the laughs!!!

It's not been a real favorite of mine since High School. I let my dog, a poodle named Tyke, out on the back porch one morning. As soon as he started out, I saw the skunk on the porch. I grabbed Tyke and yanked him back inside but it was too late. He got sprayed. It was so strong, it made me sick. The smell got into our whole house and our clothes and everything!!!! We washed Tyke in everything imaginable but the smell just had to wear off. Of course, I got teased at school!! I know we have skunks here because I smell them at night sometimes. Now when I open an outside door I make as much noise in advance as possible to give the little stinkers time to go away if they are on the porch.

Oh Connie! Poor you!! A trauma that has lasted a lifetime!!:( But Connie, there is a fool-proof remedy for ridding your doggie, home, car of Eau de Skunk.........TIME!:D My beloved Jingles (RB) got skunked in the face one night as I opened the back door and Fifi La P-U was standing right there!!! A direct hit! Couldn't stay in the house, couldn't go outside.......Ahhh! We tried everything from home remedies to professional groomings. One year later, on a warm or humid day, you could still get a sniff of the "essence of ick!"

But guess what??? UPDATE.......Today while getting a coffee at our local mercantile, who did I see, on a leash this time, but ELLIOT!!! Bouncing about in all his glory! Of course I waved the young girl down so I could say hi. As I kissed his head the memory of our eventful day came back in a flash.........SKUNKY!!!!:D

Hehehe!!!! So THAT's the dog story I needed to hear!!! You had me sitting here giggling through the whole thing. It sure does make me feel a lot better about raccoons and possums! We haven't seen or smelled a skunk, knock on wood!

As for Eliot...poor boy, he didn't know what he had gotten into, did he?? New dogs, new smells.... :) He did know where to find safety though. That's where I'd head, straight to your house!!! :D :D :D
