Just curious as to how many pets - be it a dog, cat, fish, etc. would you be comfortable owning at a time?
I think 3 dogs is my maximum, but I prefer 2 at a time. After I'm moved out, I doubt I'll go over three....that's where I'm the most comfortable. I can handle four at once, but I much prefer 2 or 3. Besides dogs, I do enjoy having a couple fish around, but not too many.
I've dog sat for up to 10 Dobermans before, and while I enjoyed the dogs, it came to be too much. But perhaps that was because I was in a very small house and there wasn't much room for walking or anything....that, and Dobes also aren't 'my' breed. Even so, as much as I love dogs, I don't think I could handle that many of any breed for long periods of time.

I have six furbabies altogether. One dog, two cats, three gerbils.
I love having them all and taking care of them. I would love to have more gerbils but it would drive my cats nuts. I'd like to have a couple more cats soon. I'd like more dogs but I would like to wait until we get to where we're gonna be for a while. We plan on having a large fish tank eventually.
So, my altogether limit is pretty high. :D

It would all really depend on my living situation. But, three dogs at a time would probably be my absolute maximum, but I'd be more comfortable and content with two.
I can't really see myself having any other animals except for dogs when I'm older, even though I have a variety of them now. I'm happy just owning dogs. :)

I voted for 1-4 as the IDEAL number. HOWEVER, I have adopted another Sphynx so that makes my ideal number 5. *sigh*

I have one, but am hoping for another. Two would be the most I would have at one time. ( depending on what sort of buisness I get into ;) )

I could handle up to 4 dogs. I'd like a big dog when I move out, and maybe two elderly rescues. Definately not 4 young dogs. It just gets ridiculous after that with food, toys, grooming, vet bills, one on one attention, training.
I grew up on a farm with lots of farm cats. But inside, maybe 2, and older cats, no more kittens.
I fit as many fish as I have tank room, and I'm always on the lookout for a cheap used tank. I want to breed fish.
Small mammals don't have a limit yet.
It really depends on the room and time I have and the money. I love pets that take a lot of care.

IDEAL number would be 4 when it comes to dogs, and i personally will never have more than 2 cats.

I think the amount of animals that one has depends on how much time the can put out to tend to them properly..I have 3 cats, 1 dog, 1 parrot, 1 salt tank, 1 pond with fish and 2 kids...I am at my limit..Anymore, and I think the attention level would drop.
I wish others would think the same way.. ;)

I voted 4-8 because that's how many I have now, but I'm really not sure. I could see myself in the future with 6-8 dogs (probably with 2 or 3 of them being fosters), 2 or 3 cats, some cows and also some chickens. I could handle more than that, but I'm not sure if I'd want to.

I voted 4-8...and I have 11 pets now (5 dogs, 3 cats, 2 guinea pigs and a gecko).
I could see myself in the future owning 4 dogs (all spaced apart, unlike my current situation) and maybe a couple fosters. I don't think I'll ever get anymore rodents, and definitely no more geckos.

I voted 1-4. I have 4 pets now, 3 dogs and 1 cat. In the future I might see getting another cat (or if my dreams ever came true a horse or two :D ) but I think 3 dogs is my limit. I like small animals, but I don't like taking care of pets in cages and also Adele would go crazy so owning them is not really an option.

I voted 4-8. I will most likely have two dogs or three. No more then three at a time. Maybe 1 cat. No more then 1 cat though. I would also like to get a rabbit and a 2 fish. So that's a total of 7 pets. That's to little in my book, but that is probably all I would be able to afford.

weeeell...........considering ALL pets I´d be around 12.........
2 birds, but I want to get a companion to each one I have now
7 fish, I think I´m fine with those but who know what happens at betta shops ;)
3 dogs, I would love to have 4 but three will do for now (If I could I would have 100´s, but they are a handful, once I had 13  , great work Tamara!!)
now for the ones I´d like
1-2 cats and 1 rabbit

I dunno. If I have land, probably about 4-5 dogs, a few rabbits, a goat and or cow, and a few horses. In a recular house, about 3-4 dogs, a bunny, a few rats, and one horse (boarded)

I can easily handle my pets I have now, but in the future, I plan to only have:
1-2 dogs, a group of 6 or so male rats (no females), 3-5 birds or so, & 20-40 fish.
Keep in mind that those fish won't be bettas^^ They'll be community tanks & the like.
At the moment, I own 1 dog, 1 cat, 7 rats, 4 mice, 1 hamster, 2 birds, & 20-some fish. Plus dad's dog & my sister's cat that is staying here. Its not too much for us.

I can't really say what my "IDEAL" number is. I have 16 cats now, plus a few fosters. But is it ideal?? *shrugs* I really do enjoy having many cats though. If I had, let's say, less than 8, my house would feel totally empty!
I can never see myself with a dog! And I have had small mammals in the past, but I don't think I will again. The time for cleaning and time for individual attention is impossible to find.

My personal limit would be 1-4. Two dogs, maybe a cat or some fish.

I'm currently comfortable with all of my animals, but someday I do want atleast 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a couple bettas. Soo, for my current situation, I said 12-16, but when I'm on my own, it'll be more around 8 probably.

I voted on both 1-4 and 4-8. At the moment, I just have Tia, but we will hopefully be adding more to the family soon :) At one point a few years ago, I had eleven pets, but I don't think I could handle that now, as I have more homework and my mum works more hours. After all, it isn't the quantity of pets you have, but the quantity of love you share with them!
2. If I had 10 acres and 3 helpers it would be another story. But I have one dog and I'm thinking of getting a Beta fish. I have to be realistic. I'm in a small flat now, as of some things that happend last year. But fostering might be an option.

Right now I have two dogs, five birds and 30-something bettas.
I think three dogs at the moment is ideal because of the small house we're in, and also because I work up to 12 hours a day 9 months of the year (but luckily there's always at least one person home). Once my doggy daycare is up and running, I can see myself easily handling four or five since they'll be coming with me to work.
At the moment, I think I could handle one more bird. Two of the tiels I rescued get extremely stressed out when I even come close to the cage, so they're happy in their big cage, and I'm happy letting the other three explore my room.
As for bettas, I have a system that can handle up to 96 bettas at a time and provide heated, filtered water constantly. Sooo.. seeing as how I do 30ish water changes a week already, I guess another 100 wouldn't be a problem. I don't intend to go that far anytime soon, but I could definitely handle it.

I voted 4-8. I think I could handle 2-4 dogs (we had 4 dogs at one point and it was fine). Since dogs require so much time in training and individual attention I don't think I would ever have more than 4 (and likely they'd all be siberian huskies :o ). I'd like to have a couple of cats as well. I have one betta now, I can't see myself having more than 2-3. I really am not interested in any small animals (birds, hamsters, etc.).

3 cats and 2 dogs is my limit. We are hoping to rent a whole house with my Brother, so we might be adding another dog in the very near future. It is totally up to DH - he wants to get another dog when we move, but who knows if he really means it or not. We'll see though...

Having two dogs, and two cats was perfect for me, and we plan to get another dog now that we only have one dog. I could see maybe a combination of 5 or 6 dogs and cats but that would be it. ;) I do have 23 fish also but they do not need quite as much attention as the dogs and cats do. :)

... don't think I would ever have more than 4 (and likely they'd all be siberian huskies :o )You have siberian husky syndrome - bet you can't have just one! Boy, am I curious to see how Glacier would answer this thread!
Depends on the animals. I've had up to 6 animals at once before - 3 cats and a hamster, a parakeet and an iguana before.
Dogs need more time, space, attention & vets$. We decided two was our limit.
BUT...if I had the resources, I'd love to have a few more huskies.

I have had 20 birds a few times but most where wild babies I then let go.
I dont mind my number going up when we move I shall probably have 15 pets at the most but counting baby birds probably more.

Sorta depends on several factors.
I currently have 5 cats, I'd have to say I'm at my maximum, we did do alot of discussion and calculations when we added the latest cat to be sure we could provide for all of them.
However in the past I owned (at one time) 1 cat, 2 guinea pigs, and 4 fish = 7 pets; and could have provided for at least 1 additional cat or 1 additional guinea pig or several more fish.
Personally I believe that anyone's 'limit' is based on being able to provide:
1) Financially for all the animals (routine & emergency medical, spaying/neutering, housing, food, etc)
2) Space enough for all the animals without crowding
3) Time (playing, grooming, cleaning, feeding, daily health checks, etc)
The way I see it, if a person can't provide those 3 things for even ONE pet, then they are past their limit, and there are other people who can more than provide those 3 things for 15 or more animals. Depends on the individual situation of the human, and the care requirements for the particular pet. ;)

As many as I can care for :D 20 +
for all pets i really don't know. it depends on the kinds of pets. my cat limit is probably 2 or 3. my dog limit depends on my living situation. in Nashville my limit was 2. here, i could easily house 6 dogs.

Welllllll...I would have to say 18 dogs (17 huskies and an ESS), a hedgie, and a few fish. Total, 24 pets. Now, that all depends upon my living condition, the hubby (which I pray to God will not have a problem), and of course the money and time conditions.

I had to mark "4-8" as I have 7 cats right now. I also have some fish, but they are really . . . to amuse the cats! Same with my birfeeders out the windows. Anyway, back to this poll - I never really intended to have 7, heck I never intended to have more than 3 or 4. But some how, one comes along and I just can't say NO !

I think as long as you can take care of the animal and carry it to the vet when it needs to be carried then it's ok to have as many animals as you want. We have 3 dogs, 3 cats, 10 ducks, 3 birds, 1 rabbit, 1 goat and some fish right now. But, I think as long as the animals get what they need then it's alright to haev as many as you want.
