HELP! So many people have asked me about Mocha's breed. The only thing I know (but not sure) is that he may have some chihuahuas in him. What else do you see in him?

hmmm.........maybe some Peke, maybe some Sheltie, maybe some Aussie........she looks a bit big for a Chihuahua so maybe a medium breed mixed into her, Chi´s can be longhaired, but also the ear shape and butt LOL

she sure is cute!!!

There is a political correct name for a mixed breed that can't be identified. They call it "The All American Breed" so the experts say.;) Good luck on your guessing.

I would definately say there is Sheltie in her, I'm not sure what else. Maybe peke like huskymom said.

I don't see any Chihuahua, but I do see Spaniel in her, eyes and ears especially!

I really see sheltie in her, and possibly spaniel as Karen said :). She's adorable! Her face even reminds me a bit of Ginger's Mom's Ginger:

M&M...

your dog is one of the toughest I have seen posted to date on this type inquiry. WOW!!! Mocha could really be anything - as he hasn't seemed to carry any one breed's dominant trait. I don't even know about the Chihuahua...

Try checking an AKA dog breed chart and see if anything jumps out... if so, then try reading about the various non-physical traits like disposition, digging and various other behaviors to see if anything matches up. Good luck...

Her coloring reminds me a lot of http://dogoftheday.com/archive/2004/May/13.jpg Shai,
http://dogoftheday.com/archive/2004/May/13.html, maybe that and a longer-legged breed?

I'm in a bit of a hurry since I've got stuff cooking at the moment.

Mocha appears to have a rather fine muzzle and very slender legs. The coat color is agouti (black tipped sable) which is a rather common color. The black hair component is dominant over breeds that do not carry the 'E' gene which is for Extension of Eumelanin. Dogs which have 'E' will have black whiskers. Dogs that are from breedings of 'e/e' dogs will have pale whiskers.

So a quick look, shows that two dogs that did not contribute modifiers for a shorter coat (which would be more dominant and thus since it isn't there...) I would guess at papillon and a golden retriever. That's only a guess. I do not know why Chihuahua was suggested as a possible known (was the dog surrendered from a home where the mother was known and definitely a Chi? I don't know that). Some purebred dogs are not really typical of their breed. And many pets are not the result of two purebreds.

The amount of white would be about right for this Pap and GR genetic mixture. As well, it would affect ear carriage giving an ear that is neither completly flat nor an an ear that is erect. The muzzle of the golden has more bone and in crosses like this, but mixed with less bone - less bone tends to predominate (Willis, "Genetics of the Dog")

Whatever the breed, Mocha looks like a very handsome dog. If a Pap and GR mix, then I'd anticipate a very active smaller dog of the medium size (shorter than a pure GR). This mix would probably have a very happy go-lucky personality and 'smarter than their owner' sort, figuring out puzzles and possibly being very good agility dogs with a strong will to please. That's all guesses tho.

M&M, you could always make up some breed name. Most people don't know breeds very well at all. Transylvanian Long Coated Spaniel works for me! ;)

Okay, back to kitchen.

Another look with the stove off this time. hrm... peke wouldn't work due to the long leg length.

I think Sheltie and Pap might work but the ears would be loftier, and Mocha doesn not have enough white (for the genetics of that combo)... looking for pic:
http://www.sheltierescue-ga.org/albums/SheltieRescueofGeorgia/index3.htm

Both are coated, but I think the muzzle would be longer and finer (more whippety) in that mixture. A sheltie mixed with a breed having little in the way of white markings, possibly tho.

Mocha's muzzle is rather short, so I don't think Sheltie and Aussie mix would do it. There would also be more white given the averages in those breeds, and the genetics of white markings.

It's fun to guess! We could be miles off. A family member brought a dog from Mexico that was a street mutt, mix of many kinds of breeds. It looked a lot like Mocha, a little smaller, but Transylvanian Long Coated Dog to me too. ;)

That shorter muzzle is another reason why I suggested the Tibetan Spaniel - Mocha's muzzle is longer than a Tibbie's, but not as long as many other breeds.

Ah, the glory of mixed breeds. You could guess forever and still not know!

I think she has Tibetian Spaniel just take a look at these pics. I can also see Sheltie.

If you look at both faces they look just like her

I say maybe some Pekingese and maybe a little Sheltie, too :) Whatever she is, she's adorable^^!

The only thing about her that looks mildly Pekingese is her muzzle and what appears to be an underbite. However, some Tibbies also have this distinctive underbite. As well, it was mentioned that Pekes have very short very stubby legs. It doesn't seem to fit Mocha at all. She's such a leggy girl; I'm hard pressed to say she might be part Whippet/Iggie.

Therefore, I'd have to go with Tibbie X Sheltie. My guess is that she's made up of 3+ breeds because she has a bit of a leggy "Spaniel-y" type that I can't quite put my finger on.

How much does Mocha weigh and how tall is she? I think a head shot would also help determine whether or not she really is part Pekingese/Tibbie.

I see tibetan terrier/spaniel. The bone structure doesnt really look like chihuahua as the shoulder plate is too long. How much does he weigh?

I definatley think there is Aussie in him...I have an aussie...she doesn't have a real stocky build, but the legs and the way the coat is, and the feathering at the butt...if it's not Aussie he could be border collie...but with leg structure and coloring...not so much the face...

I am not completley sure...if you can't find out....good luck with your heinz 57(thats my grandpas "political" term)
